Re: Honda CBR 250R
Well here in my town honda svc uses motul. I do not know the grade but when I accompanied my friend to two service intervals. Both the time the svc used motul. Well I live in Assam. Tinsukia is a small town here where counterfeit stuff are a buzz aand cheap thngs are what is used in some svc except bajaj honda and yamaha. But the honda svc is the best and yamaha svc also which both encourage motul . Well both the svc of the honda qnd yamaha are of the same owner. Dont your svc's encourage using motul?

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Going in for third free service at 12k kms by next week, thinking of getting the 7100 or 300v, but also thinking if the svc guys will create a scene about the warranty,
but then again, the Honda oil has been holding up quite nicely, I hardly use the bike for commutes, take it out on weekends for some pleasure ride and then the 1000kms pilgrimage to home once or twice a month. cruising speeds of 100-110kmph.
Cheers

Re: Honda CBR 250R
That's a must. Some SVC guy ignores it to save money. CBR manual says to change it. And it costs 220/- at Kolkata. Don't know if the price has been increased in last 2 months.Originally posted by binarycodes View PostThanks. What amazes me is that the SVC guys did not even tell/advice me to change the oil filter!

AFAIK, CBR suffers with a SS oil. Shell Advance ultra FS 10W40 is tried n proven best on 250R(even better than motul) by @gopakumar & @aargee
If I recollect my knowledge properly, FS, SS or Mineral - the lubrication of all three oils on a particular grade and a particular brand are usually the same. It's only the life of the oil where FS excels over SS and mineral. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Not yet, Divya!!! I know there's a parallel school of thought regarding HDEOs and for a while, I was contemplating the same too...but I really feel scared taking a risk. Moreover, I guess you must be aware that we shouldnt be playing around with the base grade (in this case 10Wxx) - so how advisable will it be to opt for a 15Wxx ?

I switched to Shell in a Honda ASC itself, as the guys at Shell weren't competent enough to reach the drain bolt of the CBR...and the ASC did't make any fuss over it. Do approach the ASC in advance and speak to one of the technicians there. Chances are, you will face no opposition. Do not speak to the supervisors/managers - most of them are certified A*****es ( There are exceptions and I know some who are very cooperative and helpful)Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Nothing like that! Base grade can be switched over becasue it determines how viscous the oil would remain at high temparatures. Hence, 15 grade would lube better than 10 grade and won't act water like. It would reduce knocking in slow B2B traffic too. I have used it for over 35k kms now and I'm yet to see a negative (apart from early drain intervals).Originally posted by bbsrailfan View PostMoreover, I guess you must be aware that we shouldnt be playing around with the base grade (in this case 10Wxx) - so how advisable will it be to opt for a 15Wxx ?Got a $5 head? Re: Honda CBR 250R
I guess early drain of oil will defeat the purpose of having such a nice Honda engine with service intervals close to 6k don't you think? No doubt HDEO Shell Rimula series has proven its mettle with a lot of other air and oil cooled bikes. Unless servicing and price of oil is a major barrier for the owner, one need not shift to HDEO oil especially with CBR 250R. The generic reviews i have received from most of the riders is that the Shell FS oil tends to make the CBR run smoother in comparison to Honda OEM FS oil. Though not by a huge margin.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostNothing like that! Base grade can be switched over becasue it determines how viscous the oil would remain at high temparatures. I recall one of the senior members here (icemang or aargee ) screwing up his engine after switching to a non-standard oil...that scares the wit out of me. as shv18 quaoted above, HDEO has worked very well with air and oil cooled engines, but I guess nobody has tried it on a CBR, and maybe with good reason. Guess I'd stick around with Shell FS...Originally posted by shv18 View PostI guess early drain of oil will defeat the purpose of having such a nice Honda engine with service intervals close to 6k don't you think? That way sir jee, even W40 oils are non standard! Recommended is 10W30 only.Originally posted by bbsrailfan View Post=Ah well... I recall one of the senior members here (icemang or aargee ) screwing up his engine after switching to a non-standard oil..
