Other dealers also dont have red and/or black and all of them only have the tri-colour in stock, so i'm thinking of picking it up this weekend as its difficult for me now to wait for another 15-20 days (dealers aren't sure on this) for the red one.

A good decision indeed. But tell me one thing, did the customer care guys have anything to say about the shortage of the full red color scheme ?

It is weird that none of the delhi dealers are having that color.

I've been telling myself to wait for some more time for the red one, but then the patience level has started to go away.

The customer care lady didn't know too much herself and said that only dealers can tell about the availability and waiting period of the bike. She just took my complaint and said that she'll arrange a call from the concerned department. It is surprising to me as well that all dealers only have the tri-colour ABS in stock, though they have the STD red available. I'm thinking of calling up the customer care again today to check on this.

Try shooting a mail instead of calling. I think the mail reaches to a higher level in the hierarchy, and chances of getting a more credible response is higher.

Done that already. I had sent them an email on 15th April, but have not got a revert. Will send a follow-up mail tomorrow.

I read somewhere to check about 'tappet adjustment' while doing the PDI at the showroom. What does it mean?

"tappet" is wide used term for valve adjustment which is how most of the bikes work however cbr has " shims" that control the valves..
the inspection is suppose to be done at first service.. however if all goes well you will need a replacement post 30k...

mine 20k+ done yet and no shim replaced. however there will be shim noise gradually increasing post 5-6k kms which is normal for all CBR's..

wait out for a few more days and get another colour if nutin working out...

17500 kms.. I know its pretty quick interval to change shims, but the rpm range where noise occurs kept on increasing, so got annoyed & changed..

Guys, yesterday evening about 6.30 I had the weirdest electrical issue I have ever faced on any bike and this is the second only issue I have faced with the CBR.
So here goes, I started riding at 6pm, all the electrical were fine, the pilot lamps were on, horns and indicators working fine , and no isues at all, the display brightness also was just fine.
Noe by 6.30 when it got dark, i pushed the button to headlights ON, but the light wouldn't come on, the pilot lamps are working but the headlights wouldn't come on. Tried toggling the high beam switch into high beam mode, it wouldn't work, even the high beam blue indicator on the console wasn't coming on.
So now i am stuck at night time with no headlights, tricky situation.
So i press the pass switch and the high beam works fine, even the high beam indicator is working, once i release the pass switch , its back to darkness, mind you the headlight switch is ON all this time.
Now i just give it a try and press and hold the pass switch for 3-4 seconds and release it, now the high beam is working fine, i double checked to see if it was not the pass switch was stuck or not, it wasn't, now it was really the high beam was working, so i ruled out bulb fusing problem since it was working.

Now i toggle to low beam , but it doesn't work, toggle back to high beam again its a no show, repeat the pass switch manuvoer for 3-4 seconds, the high beam starts working again.

So i set for home since at least the high beam is working and i did not want to take risk and get stranded without light.

Now after some time, I have to stop again, so i try it again, this time also the light are a no-go, the pass switch maneuver manages to get the high beam working, but this time the low beam also worked on toggling the switch , so now i even ruled out low beam being fused out.

But still the problem is that the headlight switch doesn't activate the lights, instead i need to hold on to the pass switch for a few seconds to activate the light.

Now then , Next stop I stop the bike for about 15-20 minutes, meeting with a friend, i explained the issue to him and we both are equally puzzled, and now after this break, I tried the headlight switch, but this time is decides to work fine without any issues, just like how it should, did not need the pass switch to activate the lights.

From that time onwards , i tried stopping multiple times and trying to check if the problem is recurring, but it was working fine every time after that.
So, now i am left totally stupefied, with no idea what was going on with the electrical s.
Now all the other electrical functions were working without any problem.

Now, my question, has anybody faced such a freak occurrence before ? And what do you guys think about it ?

Wiring harness problem ? or anything similar ?

                          That's really a strange case.
I had one such freak issue at about 4k on odo. I was going from Bangalore to Coimbatore had taken a break at Salem and started at about 8 30 pm and was about 25km short . All was fine. Suddenly the bike stopped.. The engine just switched off. I was like what the hell. Tried the starter, it used to crank but engine won't come to life. Checked the wires etc for any external damage but nothing amiss. Being night and seeing a line soul struggling with a heavily loaded bike few cars stopped to help but no one knew a thing ABOUT CBR then Aug 2011. Finally I gave up and started calling my office to arrange for alternate transport for me as well as the bike. In between had another gap on the starter and voila the bike started as if nothing had happened. After that there was no more drama and I reached home.
Next day went to the service center told them the problem but on checking all was fine.
After that I have covered abound 7 odd thousand km but it has not happened again.
I think too much electronics at times is a problem.

Yes! Finally someone would understand my dilemma. People laughed when I told this to them few months back because the bike would work properly in front of them.

In my case, it was bad connection between the headlamp switch on the right handlebar. Sometimes, it doesn't complete the circuit and lights may go off while riding.
Flicking them on/off a few times would restore operation.

I opened the switch assembly (right handlebar) and cleaned it inside out. Oiled it with machine oil (sewing maching types) and it's working fine.

Haha....very true my friend, too much electrical intervention does spoil the party, but this seems very basic, might be a switch gear issue like divya told, need to get it checked.

                              Lol..so that makes 2 of us..!! :-D

In my case, once the headlights start working it works fine, seems to be wiring related, as you told the circuit is not getting completed, but upon the switch gear bypass, somehow the circuit gets complete and it starts working fine.

The problem is, since most of my Bangalore -Trichur and vice versa rides are at teh early morning hours from 2am ad all, mostly i am using the headlights. So such a uncertainty might be a pain in the arse sometime. Now i have to return back on sunday early morning and no svc are functioning this week in kerala. perfect timing.. :-/

Wiring harness problem ? or anything similar ?

i have had numerous instances like this with the cbr in past 20,000 km's...

                                headlight switch...
                                sudden no electricals..
                                no turning on..
sputtering and then went dead like no fuel and back on as normal as ever before....

headlight switch is still twitchy.. i tortured it so much thats its back to its normal functionality..

sometimes the bike would stall midway and would not power-on.. nutin that bugged me...

answer :: give it a few seconds ... powe off everything.. remove the key.. let the poor lady relax for say 10 seconds.. give it a second shot and viola....

if you get sudden engine dies and wont start.. pull the accelerater like we used to do in 2 strokers and then gun the starter.. it will bring it back to life withing 3 seconds..

and yes i have had that same freak case where i rode 30km in dark on High beam with the pass light switch pressed all the way
