One of the trusted oil for CBR's is Shell Advance 10W40 Fully Synthetic oil. Coming to oil filter better to stick with ASC.

And what should be the change interval?

Every 6k kms as per the manual, you can change the oil when you feel the engine has become rough, hard gear shifts etc things indicating towards oil change

Personally, on almost all manuals that suggests a drain interval of more than 4k KMS for a motorcycle is a pure farce. A motorcycle goes through different stresses than a car engine is subject to, add in dusty conditions, riding conditions, the overall maintenance and the interval only swallows up even more. My suggestion would be irrespective of oil or KMS a drain interval of 3k would be a good ballpark to keep in mind, especially for minerals and semi synthetic. A FS can just "can" be extended 500 to 1000 kms more, and that's pretty much it. 6k 10k, these are all total HS.

            Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Hello Guys, based on all your feedback and suggestions i bought a used CBR 250 std which had done 10k kms on ODO two weeks ago. I have ridden it for 600 kms in these two weeks and i am pretty satisfied with this bike, i would not call it an upgrade from ZMR but its definitely a worthy replacement though and it should satisfy my commuting and touring needs for couple of years. There are many pros n cons about this bike and many problems attached to it as it was not maintained properly by the previous owner, so i had to replace some parts immediately after the purchase.

              Parts replaced:
              1. Both front and rear brake pads were gone(see the rear rotor disk condition in below pics) and replaced with new set of pads,
              2. The rear conti had air leakage issues and had multiple punctures so i gifted the bike a Michelin Pilot Street 140/70 R17 radials,
              3. Changed the clutch cable.
              4. Engine Oil (Motul semi synth 15w40)

              Problems:
              1. There is a bobbing motion between speeds 50-65kmph in 3rd or 4th gear,
              2. Thud sound when ridden over humps and pot holes (cone set replacement?)
              3. Could reach only 135kmph in 5th gear and the speed drops to 130 upon shifting to 6th and takes ages to cross 135 maxing out at 138kmph (air filter/ spark plug replacement?)
              4. Though the engine is smooth and refined there is lot of noice and vibration from the engine, i could notice the tappet noice and the infamous shim noice as well, sometime it felt like the sound is from timing chain
need all your help to get the bike to its pristine condition, will come up with a detailed ownership experience once i get time in my busy schedule. Will be attaching some pics of my ride for now Click image for larger version

I recently purchased black CBR250R std in bangalore and have done 300kms till now

I have a little question, while riding, if you pull your hands off from the handle, the vehicle should ideally go straight. In my case its going slightly to the right. Is there some kind of imbalance or is it normal.

Also, since the bike is in it's run in, i have not gone beyond 5.5k and i generally keep it at 4.5k. But in this range, the vehicle doesn't feel like its running freely. Accelerating feels as if there is a heavy person sitting on the back.

Maybe the vehicle naturally drives this way and since i am new to it, i dont know this but i want to be sure..

What checks should i perform or what could be the problem in general?

On the occasion of dani pedrosa's 30th bday, i gifted myself a CBR250R repsol edition pics coming soon.

Ps: what is the max rpm limit during run in period? Manual doesn't specify any specific rpm.

Congrats on the bike. I have a 2 week old bike and acceleration doesn't feel that way. Enough torque to zoom past traffic. Might have something to do with right speed at right gear.

Congrats mate. Got a CBR250R Repsol edition 2 weeks back. Invites a lot of stares on the road. Generally people dont cross 5K RPM for first 500 odd kms. Most even follow it till 1000 kms or first service.

For 1&2 point, get the conset greased and tighten the handle and then check if there is any wobble or thud noise. Even after greasing and tightening, if the handle becomes loose then the conset has busted,go for replacement.

For point number 3, the speeds you have mentioned are NORMAL. The 250 looses steam post 135 kmph. What are you expecting a speed of 160-170kmph.:banghead:

If the bike is heated up fair bit then some noisr will be there and its acceptable.try starting the bike in early morning and then check for noise in shim and timing chain. If the noise is there get it serviced from a decent svc.

                            Cheers,

                              Gollum,

I doubt that very much if they still produce the silver ones. Even if they make.silver ones the rims will set you back by 9-11k with 6k for rear rim only, figures verified by Svc.

If you have black ones, why not get them painted to silver, cost will be very low when compared to buying the new rims altogether.

painting them sounds like a good idea but I would hate to dismantle the wheels off a new bike.
