Re: Honda CBR 250R
Totally agree with you Divya, i will not be hitting tracks with this bike or cruising at top speed all day but for me top speed is necessary to check if the bike is in good condition or not as i have purchased a used bike. If the bike is not performing as it is supposed to then that might hint many problems contributing to drop in performance (worn out clutch plates, valves, timing chain, blocked air filter, spark plugs etc etc), hope you understand my concern to test the top speed.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View Post

Re: Honda CBR 250R
To know the bike performing better or not, try checking other useful and possible aspects (NVH levels, FE, ignition issues, braking ability, etc) because top end mostly depends on lot of various parameters apart from rider, trust me. RS200 as said does only 141 with correction applied and practically weighs heavier than CBR250 and the top end will only be slightly less for a of 50cc lesser machine.Originally posted by alok urs View PostTotally agree with you Divya, i will not be hitting tracks with this bike or cruising at top speed all day but for me top speed is necessary to check if the bike is in good condition or not as i have purchased a used bike. Absolutely none, DS. Sometimes people can use their discretion before posting such topics, if they can xBhp, if they can post, then I don't understand how long it would take to Google what they need, for something that's obvious.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostT

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
replies in bold aboveOriginally posted by Kautilya Tiwari View PostI recently purchased black CBR250R std in bangalore and have done 300kms till now
I have a little question, while riding, if you pull your hands off from the handle, the vehicle should ideally go straight. In my case its going slightly to the right. Is there some kind of imbalance or is it normal.
NO, its not normal. either the front t-stem fork alignment is wrong (rare case) else the rear chain slack is wrong causing rear tyre to be tilted one side.
Also, since the bike is in it's run in, i have not gone beyond 5.5k and i generally keep it at 4.5k. But in this range, the vehicle doesn't feel like its running freely. Accelerating feels as if there is a heavy person sitting on the back.
CBR makes usable torque over 3000 rpm and good power above 6000 rpm, its at 6k where it hits the power band.
if it feels very suffocated.
check chain slack,
tyre air pressure,
air filter condition.
you can always push it beyond 5.5k at times however do not hold there for long. the break-in should be a mix of mid range and some short high rev bursts (in all safety). the first oil change is at 500 km post which you can happily do 6k rpm but not redlining all the time.
make sure both oil and oil filter is changed. stay there and get it done. (oil and filter REPLACEMENT )
Maybe the vehicle naturally drives this way and since i am new to it, i dont know this but i want to be sure..
What checks should i perform or what could be the problem in general?
replies in bold above.Originally posted by alok urs View PostHello Guys, based on all your feedback and suggestions i bought a used CBR 250 std which had done 10k kms on ODO two weeks ago. I have ridden it for 600 kms in these two weeks and i am pretty satisfied with this bike, i would not call it an upgrade from ZMR but its definitely a worthy replacement though and it should satisfy my commuting and touring needs for couple of years. There are many pros n cons about this bike and many problems attached to it as it was not maintained properly by the previous owner, so i had to replace some parts immediately after the purchase.
Parts replaced:
1. Both front and rear brake pads were gone(see the rear rotor disk condition in below pics) and replaced with new set of pads,
the disk seems to be glazed and has remains of old pads. rub it well with scrotch brite (the disks )
2. The rear conti had air leakage issues and had multiple punctures so i gifted the bike a Michelin Pilot Street 140/70 R17 radials,
very nice choice.
3. Changed the clutch cable.
good move. will last you another 20k well
4. Engine Oil (Motul semi synth 15w40)
always run on FS and instead of motul go with SHELL ULTRA FS. many FM's have found shell in cbr to be brilliant.
change whenever possible. run only FS and keep the oil+ filter change interval to 4500.
Problems:
1. There is a bobbing motion between speeds 50-65kmph in 3rd or 4th gear,
if its happening in 3rd and 4th gear and not 5th and 6th gear then it cannot be coneset.
please verify in either gear and explain in details. will help further on it
2. Thud sound when ridden over humps and pot holes (cone set replacement?)
not necessarily. the "thud" sound can be loose front assembly, license plate , loose coneset, abused forks , many other things,
get the coneset checked. check @shv18's cbr thread . i posted method to check coneset issue. check and verify. 10k is too early for coneset to be changed.
3. Could reach only 135kmph in 5th gear and the speed drops to 130 upon shifting to 6th and takes ages to cross 135 maxing out at 138kmph (air filter/ spark plug replacement?)
rider weight and cross winds play a major role in small capacity bikes. though the bike should be capable of hitting further however many other things needs to
checked and sorted out. we will continue further . you just got it don't worry.
note : i would personally suggest to avoid any kind of speeding due to road conditions in india.
4. Though the engine is smooth and refined there is lot of noice and vibration from the engine, i could notice the tappet noice and the infamous shim noice as well, sometime it felt like the sound is from timing chain
what kind of noises ?
tappet/shim noise will always exist even on a perfectly normal 5k done CBR's however if your hand goes numb of engine vibes are unbearable it can be signal to
get it checked. however first change oil to either HONDA OEM else SHELL.
need all your help to get the bike to its pristine condition, will come up with a detailed ownership experience once i get time in my busy schedule. Will be attaching some pics of my ride for now

does it chip off due to dust and stones hitting while on road ?
just paint or any layer of clear coat on it as well ?

how do you clean the rear wheel after its all dirty due to chain lube. i use diesel and it hasn't damaged the coating, rim yet
but i wonder if i use the same method on paint it will wipe it/lighten it after a few times of cleanup. any comments ?

I was soo hoping Honda would release CBR300 in 2015 but they just showcases new colors *facepalm*
Then I checked the Honda global website and it seems they have not released CBR300 in many countries. Just a few.Hero Honda Splendor (June 2001- Present)

Looks good. Repsol does make heads turn. Price difference between normal colours and Repsol is around 2500 only. So I went ahead and bought the Repsol tooOriginally posted by hgps View PostHere are the pics,

So here's my experience.
how well does the paint hold compared to powder coating ?
Powder coating is best any day compared to spray paint mainly because it can withstand heat better way.
The main problems with spray paint is that they might crack if the paint was not done properly.
does it chip off due to dust and stones hitting while on road ?
No it doesn't but during tyre change or service of disk brakes you have to be careful and those are the only times I got mine scratched up.
just paint or any layer of clear coat on it as well ?
It started by scratching old paint then primer ,paint and clear coat.
did you take the wheel out and got it painted ?
I got my wheel and tyre completely out.
how do you clean the rear wheel after its all dirty due to chain lube. i use diesel and it hasn't damaged the coating, rim yet
but i wonder if i use the same method on paint it will wipe it/lighten it after a few times of cleanup. any comments ?
I generally go with car shampoo that does the trick most of the times if something is really greasy then use tooth brush
.
The couple of reasons I went with spray paint.- Paint scheme :- May be you have seen my paint scheme, the rim is gold but rest of the alloy is black and its little bit tricky to achieve the same on powder coat.
- Maintenance :- In case of any scratches which are bound to happen one way or other its easy to re-paint the scratched part alone.
