Now the tick tick noise issue, did you check this noise in the morning after you have kept the bike off for lets say 6-8 hours. Everybody is aware of the fact that once the engine is heated up the metal expands and a bit of roughness will be there.

I am sure every cbr owner will have this tick tick noise after the engine has heated up a fair bit.

When was the last time the oil was changed ?

Did you abuse the bike badly especially during run-in/engine breakin period ?

Where do you stay. So that fellow owners can suggest a decent SVC.

    Cheers,
    Sanjay
    Thanks for your reply buddy.
I own other vehicles too and i am very serious when it comes to taking care of them. I have been riding since 8 yrs.

My bike has been serviced on regular basis.. It hasn't been abused.. ( i am not into stunting kind of thing just occasional speed bursts and highway trips)
Yes this ticking sound is less prominent when engine is cold (that's an obvious thing). And it has been a problem since the very beginning. And day by day getting worse.
With my own experience its definitely something related to timing chain.

Engine oil has been changed recently.
And bike has clocked about 15k kms only till date.

My hometown is kanpur UP and bike is here only.
The kind of service that is provided here by ASCs is pathetic.

My cbr used to have this ticking noise and i always thought it was the shim. But once the svc guy changed one part ( idk whats its called, timing chain or somethng like that i guess ) anyway that ticking noise reduced alot, now its comes rarely like i hear it once or twice in a months time.

But again my ticking noise was always with the cold start, once the engine reached it optimal temperature no ticking could be heard.

( that part is above the clutch cover )
Maybe they changed cam chain tensioner in your case..
I have changed that twice in my bike.. And yes problem goes away temporarily but then again it comes back..

Another thing is that in my case its just the opposite. Its starts making erratic noise after heating up

        It could be many things.
        1. may be carbon deposits
        2. may be some issue is sprockets
        3. may be wheel alignment issue.
I would say have a good friendly chat with SVC I'm sure they will help you.
Trust me buddy.. Those svc guys are very unsure of anything.
Its like they are experimenting each time i ask them to resolve it.

Changing tensioner hasn't helped in my case

Just got my bike checked out at the svc for a similar complaint today and enquired about the issue. My bike does the tikking thing during the first 5 mins until she heats up and then goes smooth. The tikking again starts above 5500 rpm but its barely audible. The mechanic checked the shims and told me they were fine and the sounds were due to some carbon deposits on the pistons. BTW if the camshaft tensioner is the culprit you will get a knocking sound when accelerate. Whats the odo reading of your bike? If its done above 23k like mine its possible your problem is similar to mine.

              Its around 15k on odo.
And unlike yours mine starts crying only after heating up.
Vibrations and that sound is less prominent when i start it in the morning.
That thing starts buzzing like hell only after few kms of riding.

Yeah. I have been called by service centre for change of clutch outer (which they want to change for unjustifiable reason).
So i am going there tomorrow and definitely going to put some pressure on them to check shims and cam chain tensioner.
                  Will update after tomorrow's visit

Looks more like Shim problem to me...If the engine does not make any noise in Cold and starts with clicking noise ,once hot, most of the time it is the Valve Clearance(tappet adj.,) which needs to be checked.....To check if clutch assembly has any issue, try this method...When engine had come to operating temperature, in engine idle condition, in NEUTRAL , hold( Press)and release the clutch lever. If on pressing the clutch lever there is clacking noise from clutch side, then clutch bell and bearing is suspect...
                    Good Luck.

Any CBR veterans from Pune? It would be great if someone could direct me to a good mechanic/SVC. I have a friend's CBR with me and will mostly be buying it off of him but before that I wanted to get all the issues with it fixed up.

                      Thanks a lot!

As per their call i visited service centre today.
They checked shims and i was told that one of the exhaust shim had more clearance than recommended value but still it is within permissible limits. So there's no need for doing shim job.

And surprisingly today no one said anything about clutch. ( as i have already mentioned that each time they have a different story).

And once again i was told that nothing is wrong with my bike and that irritating sound is very normal thing for every 250.

After a lot of insisting they again changed the tensioner but nothing changed except there are fewer vibrations now.

Btw i have never heard any clanking sound from clutch assembly and i believe that nothing is wrong with it.

And yes i compared mine with 3 other vehicles.
Out of which only one was making some noise similar to that of mine

The clutch is a very robust system in CPR; if you ride well (gradual acceleration/deceleration/avoid redlining often) the assembly will last easily for 75K-80K Km
