Beware & stay cautious. When you're getting it done, pls check the values of valve clearance adjustment values & if possible pls post the values here. TIAOriginally posted by darkknight View PostPS:there's apparent tapet noise as per latest finding so the mech is opening it up to check
TrueOriginally posted by darkknight View PostAs per vihaan honda mechanic though putting in an additional shim as a standard procedure will help in further making the bike smooth
Its not Twister/Uni type adjustment. They're replaced by shimsOriginally posted by ravi@17bhp View Postadjusted if needed by adjusting the locks nuts
Not only YES, but more than thatOriginally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostIs there any mention in the manual of replacement of shims to control the tappet noise (valve clearance noise) if needed?
Not on all vehicles; only on some. Certainly its the output of hurried cookOriginally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostIf not, why are the shims failed in the initial few kilometers?
1. They're available very much, atleast hereOriginally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostIf shims are needed to be replaced in the first service for valve clearance adjustment (only if needed), Honda is supposed to make these available at all service centers along with the launch of the bike.
2. Valve clearance is not MANDATORY in 1st service. Take my word for it. They're required only when the tappet noise exceeds limit.
Congratulations on the weddingOriginally posted by kishoremuthu View Postcomments are most welcome..

As said by PSR & according to the 2-3 svc mechs who got trained through honda that an standard numbers/size of shims are present.Originally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostNormally valve clearances are checked in the first service and adjusted if needed by adjusting the locks nuts. As one our members mentioned in the previous posts, shims are used to keep the valve clearances in control. Is there any mention in the manual of replacement of shims to control the tappet noise (valve clearance noise) if needed? If not, why are the shims failed in the initial few kilometers? Any expert analysis?
If shims are needed to be replaced in the first service for valve clearance adjustment (only if needed), Honda is supposed to make these available at all service centers along with the launch of the bike.
If you are not happy with it than you can get it changed.
for ex. rode a bike today which gave exact kind of vibes at low rpms like mine but the owner's riding style didn't make him notice that so he is happy & I am not.
He did receive training yet got stuck with removing the fuel pump pipe from below the tank which is a push-lock mechanism .Originally posted by Above_All View PostWhat ? Bro pls make sure the mechanic who is opening the engine has got training for CBR
since anyways they didnt have shims I told him to give up the idea
quite correct. Now I am stuck at a point of what sizes shims to order.Originally posted by psr View PostIn cbr250R there are no tappet adjustment screw and lock nut method...instead the distance between rocker arm and valve stem is measured and shims to suit this gap are inserted to take care of tappet adjustment...As per Honda directive all CBR 250 are to be checked and corrected for this at first 1,000Km service.
none at my location knew & the spare part catalogue has over 50 nos. of shims with varied sizes.
Have asked a friend to get confirmation from honda so waiting.sigpic

This post is going to be very interesting information for you DK & most C250R owners...Originally posted by darkknight View Postcan you post here the sizes so that I can get my svc to order them
SHIMS, though, they're available in standard sizes, they come in a large number of size variations; for example say SHIM's are numbered from 1 to 30. So at one point, size of 1 will be suited at one inlet/outlet to help adjust the valve clearance to the standard size. But at a different point in time, size 3 or 4 might be well suited at the same inlet/outlet to achieve the same valve clearance. To very clearly state an example, at 1st service, at all 4 places the SHIMS will be different & during second service, once again the SHIM sizes will be different (one or all 4 places) after second service.
So the point is, what size suits your C250R might not even be the same that suits your vehicle at different point in time. So there's no point mentioning the SHIM sizes used on mine & comparing with another one.
This might be a little confusing to hear at beginning. But, this is truth. Trust me, I've spent considerable amount of time on these things.
Don't want to talk on it nowOriginally posted by kishoremuthu View PostBTW is your bike's problem solved now..
