Hello, Guys and experts - I seek your help - Please help me out here - Let me know it is serious or not?

My Bike is now 6 years old clocked 32680 Km at the time of writing, Past those years the bike regularly serviced from Honda's SVC never done anything from outside - My next periodical service will be due Oct,17.

Anyhow 2-3 weeks ago I notice a strange Engine noise which is there for the first 10km of the journey after that it disappears like it never happened it is only audible if I ride the bike 50-70km/h during the first 10km and each time exactly after 10km it go away - not more or less than 10.....in this way I ride at least 400-500 km so far....i'e 4-5 days.

The normal CBR engine noise is 'DIG DIG DIG DIG' - mine Sound the same but if I go hard on throttle it is sound sequence is 'DIG DIG DIG DIG' but when release throttle there 'KAT KAT KAT KAT'<----That is I'm worried about - Like something go loose inside engine and can't keep up with rest of the stuff. This sound/knock / rev can be felt at handle bar with the Helmet On with noisy traffic environment....There is no miss fire or bust as I expect and no stalling either.

I know what is SHIM noise is - Like a couple of loose nuts and bolts shaking in a metal basket - This is not the same....SHIM Changed at around 15-17k km (can't remember)

I know I have to go at SVC but first please let me know what it can be - As I need to convince them - else they will drive the bike 10km or more, give it back saying no problem.

Please help......

It could be the shims or the cam chain tensioner that's gone wrong.

I had a similar sound from the engine, although much milder. The sound would disappear after the engine warmed up. The cam chain tensioner was the culprit. Ask the SVC to change the tensioner and see. It costs ₹500.

The shims of CBR250 shouldn't cost 15k! From previous posts here, it costs below 5k along with labour to replace all four shims!
Hello leech ,

Thank you for the advise.
Sound does go away after a warmup.
I want to know if I can change the shims and tensioner myself? and is there a standard toolbox set available for opening up the engine of CBR250R? Please provide link if possible.
Meanwhile I will start with showing the video to SVC and ask them about shim replacement or cam tensioner replacement. I hope the problem will get solved with one of these two replacements.

Thanks again,

Thank you, does the mechanic know the cleaning of the oil strainer and the adjustment of the shims?

My bike does not have shim issues, but i heard mixed reviews about shim replacement work done at vihaan honda. For all other works they are great.

Can anyone suggest me a good Honda service center in Mumbai who stocks spares for CBR250?
Yesterday some idiot hit my and some other person's bike and both got toppled over. The other person's bike fell on mine, like a domino effect, and left with a broken left indicator, bent clutch lever and a slightly bent clip-on 😢 Got the indicator and clutch lever replaced tho
I tried searching locally, but no success. I called up some SVCs but none seem to have the stock of the clip ons 😢

I dont know if you issue is same, but similar thing happend with mine. Some metal inside the silecer was loose. It make a kat kat sound until the silencer is hot. Once its hot, it expands and settles itself and no more sound. That issue if the sound coming from near the silencer. If from the engine, get the Cam tensioner checked.

Thanks for the reply - I doubt this is from silencer if so the sound will be continues as well audible when engine idling....Right ? This suspicious sound (KAT KAT knocking sound ) only audible in the first 10KM if I need to open the throttle say overtaking a car/bus (speed over 50-70km), when I close/release the throttle the knocking sound audible as well as felt in the handlebar too. (it is over 5-6k rpm)
Say If I can maintain the speed forever here which is not possible (here I mean the throttle position) - Then there is no sound at all - only it comes back when the throttle released and this is for first 10 km only.

Here Cam Tensioner mean Piston Head and Timing Chain right ?

No, the cam tensioner is a separate part. Timing chain and piston head are 2 different components

Hi friends, One autorikshaw ***guy smashed at my bike just now while it was parked on roadside. Bike fell and he ran away. LH mirror broken and LH lever got bend. By god's grace, no other damages. What is the price of LH mirror? Any idea? Attached pictures.
