• Re: Honda CBR 250R

Well, I log in after an year almost and see my profile as rusted😀 Sold off my KTM D390 after a year of ownership and had bought 7month old used CBR 250r(it had 6k on the odo when I bought) from my friend in 2015. Had no issues so far and am pretty satisfied with the product(weight and turning radius being the only grouse). Changed the engine oil(motul fully synth) and oil filter last week. From past few weeks I have come to observe few niggles;
1. Chain noise even after lubing and adjusting the tension
2. The steering has become tight but the reason could be selective wearing off of the front tyres giving it a more flat curve or is it the cone set?
3. Pass switch not working
4. Bike doesn't start when it is in gear. Have to get it back to neutral and start every time
5. Slight rusting near the fuel lid where there is a hole for draining out water.
6. The battery seems to be holding up pretty well, but it is 3 and half years old. Should I replace a good working battery?
7. I have plans to modify it into a naked just like the stunt bikes so that the heft gets reduced.

My bike has run 18k kms and I have replaced both front and rear brake pads at 10k. Apart from that, just regular oil and oil filter change.
Many a times I have been to bike showrooms, to exchange this bike for fz25, dominor, mojo, etc. But this bulletproof engine from Honda is something that I swear by and keeps me away from exchanging this thing. I don't care whether this has got soul or character, but it has got truckloads of reliability and refinement that I can count on and at the end of the day that is what I expect, from a bike.

Welcome back. Just sharing my opinions on your points
1. Whats the condition of the chain ? Replace chain and sprockets if it has uneven wear and tear, and I too have noticed sound from mine, but nothing I cant live with.
2. Get it checked. Try adjusting it first, if not replace the cone set.
3. Replace it
4. Clean the clutch switch, if possible replace. Hardly would cost some bucks.
5. Happens in all bikes when rain water/any kind of water stays in that area for a prolonged time. Wise to clean that area every time after a wash or a rainy ride.
6. My battery is holding up for more than 4 years now. Seems like a good one
7. Your bike, your choice. I would like to see it as a CB250R, the naked version which was seen abroad.
Ride, ride and ride.. But always do it responsibly..

Most of the points are easily addressed as mentioned by Ivin.
- Try Shell advanced ultra and you'll experience a better level of smoothness.

- You can lube the chain with gear oil yourself. The gear oil absorbs the gunk and it gradually falls off , thus cleaning it over time.

-If the battery voltage is ok, then I guess you're good.

The last para perfectly describes my feelings too for the 250. Try as I might, I cannot find a replacement for this in its range yet.

Ok guys update.
Bike has returned and performing admirably, no issues with the fuel pump, I suspect it's either a faulty fuel tank cap or could be condensation as leech pointed out, will check it. Coming from using a Duke 200, I'm sorta glad returning to the ceeber but obviously miss the low end torque and flickability albeit it being a bit unstable, but yes I'm glad my problems was a 288rs one and not a huge amount. leech the coil was readily available, soo far I have not faced a spare part shortage soo far thankfully, it costed about 2.7k Mrp came upto 3k with fitting and replacing, I changed both my fuel pump relays which was 144 each, 2 of them. Thanks for the inputs guys, this tiny problem really got me worried, safe riding!

I was using shell ultra previously. Now switched to motul. It takes a bit of time for the engine to warm up,after that the oil performance is flawless. The gruffness at the time of the start is gone within 1st 2-3kms.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any improvement in turning radius, if we get an upright handlebar?

Your turning radius wont change with handlebar change. It remains the same.

Motul 10w40 FS. But the company manual says 10w30, anyways I went through lot of online opinions before going for 10w40. It's perfectly safe

10w30 is smooth but for me it burns out by 2k km. 10w40 is good for 3-4k km on I'd say medium usage, not too hard too soft on the throttle.

Motul 7100 10w40 to be precise. I am using this too and with this my bike performs flawlessly. I recommend it highly. And once your bike is warmed up, go for a redline and you will enjoy it. Much more than shell.
Shell is for those who likes to ride sanely. Nothing insane.
But motul 7100 10w40 is for people who wants best of both world.

Thank you for your feedback. Just curious, two FUEL PUMP relays? You man to say two relays that are on the left side of the bike?

Inside the bike I think but only one was kaputt, as a precautionary measure I changed both of them.

Meaning you should have replaced your fan relay and your pump relay. Great.
