My bike has been only touched by the Honda Service center. So its got the recommended engine oil.
That loud "thock" that you get when you shift from 2-1 is what i get on shifting from 2-3-4-3-2 and randomly in the middle i'll go into false neutral between those gears.

Its the strangest. I've never seen this in any other bike so I thought it might be a honda thing. Looks like i was wrong.

My CBR250r is 9 months old and from the beginning i have found that while changing gears there is quite a loud knock. This is specially in lower gears. Also randomly the gear will slip into neutral while shifting from one gear to the other.

I have heard that Honda Gear shifts are the smoothest but from my experience this is not true. The gears are not hard but they make quite a loud sound when shifting.
I brought it up during the service with the honda technicians and they keep adjusting the clutch and saying that this is normal.
Could other CBR250 owners please give me some views on this?
Is this sound and false neutral normal on CBR's?

        Thanks.
        Appreciate the replies.
Hi. I don't know HOW but the engine oil plays a role in false neutral. I had experienced the same issue with the company oil but after I used the Motul 7100 10W40, the false neutral issues were no more for me. So try to switching to this engine oil and also change the oil filter and gasket everytime you change the oil. It will be worth it.

Secondly about the "THUD" sound that it makes during gear changing, based on my experience, is because of difference in rev match. During engine braking, let the rpm come down to 4k and then before downshifting, just give a slight rev with the clutch pulled, that should help with the "THUD" sound.

**Note - All comments provided are based on my personal experience.

        Ride safe. Cheers ✌

Change the mechs, those guys are idiots, the noise that you are hearing is the result of the gearbox running it but the false neutrals could be caused by the dog teeth being misaligned.

I hope you had enough explanations here. I will just add my 2 cents here. Before CBR I was using unicorn for 8+ years. When I initially heard this rough gear noise, specially on downshifting, I was also disappointed. Here is my understanding,
            * You should show your bike to a better mechanic. Karthik the Bangalore engineer, said me that clutch cable is faulty. Believe me there was no sign of any issues to me. I felt like it's just a replacement, but it did a major change to my bike. It used to switch-off some time in hard low speed down shifting. So all those issues gone.
            * The engine oil has a good role here if you have a rough engine. Honda genuine oil is not good for a long life. If possible you switch to motul or shell.
            * Chain condition, yea a rough chain can cause rough gears. It's not just lubing, you have to clean it and then lube.
            * Last point, which is our assumption about this engine compared to other 150cc bikes. This engine has its own charector, so you have to understand that, certian rpms, right time for upshift or downshift etc.

Totally agree with you. Especially the downshifting on proper Rpms. With my experience, before downshifting, giving a rev while holding the clutch doesn't bring up the sound of the gear. And I would request dear CBR 250 owners to try this too and look for themselves if I am right with this technique or wrong. I saw this on a moto vlog (Don't remember the vlogger ).

                Thanks a lot everyone.
                In conclusion
                1. I will show it to a better mechanic and see if they advise something
                2. Will try and find the right rpms to change gears. To be honest I have been changing gears quite early. Will try and change gears later.
                3. Chain cleaning though not needed will be done.
Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Yes, this is called rev matching. Just blip the throttle and downshift and notice the smoothness. This will avoid the thud noise when u downshift suddenly and is also healthy for the gearbox.

Rev Matching and higher RPM gear changes didn't make any difference. Rather at times it felt and sounded even worse.
I'll have to take it to the service center and get the mechanic to ride the bike with me.

Are u doing it right? If yes and the sound persists, check your clutch free play. There shouldn't be much free play at the lever. Check your manual and adjust the play accordingly. The bike should start moving when the clutch lever is a little away from the handlebar. Slot it into first gear and hold the clutch, see if the bike moves forward without letting out the clutch. If yes, you have to decrease the play.

                        Hi guys,
I am planning a long trip with my wife and i want it to be comfortable for her so I started looking for a backrest for my CBR250r online but couldn't find one. Can anyone please guide me or suggest me a backrest for cbr250?

                        2. Also I want to replace the stock headlight with a LED and indicators as well. I don't want to go with the cheap ones. I have all red CBR, will the white colored indicators look good with it?

                        3. Please suggest me a rear tyre other than contigo. I don't want anything as expensive as Micheline. Currently i have the stock MRF zapper that came with the bike.

                          1. Go to Karol Bagh,or find a good fabricator. He will make one as per your needs.
                          2. Cyclops LED if you really want good light. Indicators are "orange" for a reason, any other color than that is illegal btw.
                          3. If you want grip then Michelin radials or pirelli or metzelers, or else value for money is masseters from MRF

Got an oil question. I use the manual stipulated 10w30. But I'm touring kerala right now and as you know, it's extremely hot here, and my bikes throwing up heating problems whenever I get stuck in traffic (never happened in bangalore)
What grade of engine oil do you folks use?

Using shell ultra 10w40. Not much heating issues in bangalore traffic. Check your coolant levels and top up if necessary. As per engine oil, 10w40 grade is good for our bikes.
