Re: Honda CBR 250R
Wanted to have some opinion of fellow owners with few things. I'm preparing for a long ride in December end. To be precise my baby CBR is 4.5yrs old and clocked ~23K kms and everything is stock including tire and battery. Only brake pads were changed once.
1. Is it safe to go for a long trip with this battery? What to look for in battery in terms of life left?
2. Planning for extra LED setup at the front + USB charger for mobile + existing 55w halogen. Will it overkill battery?
3. Service is due in few days. Front forks are not smooth while braking hard. Should I go for a fork oil change?
4. Chain has only slack. SVC guy told me to change the same but owners of this forum changed it even at 40K. Should I bother now?
5. Apart from regular checkups like brake pad, throttle cable, clutch cable, air filter what should I check for during service? Oil changed 3.5K ago.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
hypheni - batteries have been known to suddenly stop working once they cross 3-4 years. I change my batteries every 2.5 years irrespective of the kms done. My reasoning is this -
A weak battery would be difficult to charge, putting more load on the stator coil, which could overheat and fail.
A weak battery would put more strain on the electricals, causing early failure of those critical parts.
Unlike engine oil change interval, a failed battery means a stuck vehicle, which would be waste of time and money, not to mention mood kill. The bike can do 8000 kms on a FS oil, no problem.

Hello hypheni. Glad to see your baby CBR doing well. I wish you all the best for your upcoming ride.Originally posted by hypheni View PostWanted to have some opinion of fellow owners with few things. Now let's go as per mentioned points---
1) get your battery recharged if needed couple of days just before your trip.
2) you can use led+ mobile charger+ existing 55w halogen. It will not overkill the battery since I've used it myself. But for better visibility, I would recommend you to change the halogen to led, in precise, RTD led lights. They cost around 800 incl. Fitting. It is a 35w bright white led. I am personally using it now and I am very satisfied with it. I even haven't used my additional led setup since I got this light. Try getting your hands on this light.
3) not sure about the fork oil change, maybe senior riders can comment on that for you.
4) check the condition of the chain and sprockets, if needed only then change. Else clean your chain and then lube it the night before you leave for your journey.
5) oil change depends on your personal riding techniques. But mostly many prefer to change anywhere between 3k- 4k kms. This is up to your riding method.
6) get your hands on 3M brake cleaner. This is a MUST for every rider, especially if you tour. The night before your leave for your trip, spray on your brake pads attached and the brake disc. And then clean the disc with a clean cloth. You will see all the dirt coming out of the brake.
***note- do not clean the pads after spraying the brake cleaner. Instead leave them to dry overnight. Next morning you will find your brakes to be functioning as good as new.
Ride safe. Cheers ✌

Re: Honda CBR 250R
The front wheel sub assembly would set you back at close to 5000~ excluding the tire. If your rim is deformed beyond repair, it's advisable to replace the rim as opposed to tinkering with them or mending them. Alloys lose structural integrity if reheated and hammered, your best bet would be to get a new one. Secondly, a bent rim if you're under warranty can be claimed under certain circumstances.Originally posted by Mail2vasant View PostHas anyone replaced their front alloy wheel. Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END

Thanks for mentioning RTD LEDs. Just checked one video and found that it has DRL as well. How is it? Can you send some pictures during night?Last edited by hypheni; 11-19-2017, 12:43 AM.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Hey, there is no exact issue that I am suffering from, apart from that as I have shifted from Bangalore to Bombay, I am worried I would not find a competent mechanic. The lack of knowledge of the mechs in the ASC's and few mechs that I had been recommended gives me the impression that I would in a painful position of not being able to run the bike as perfect as stated in the service manual.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostWhat are the issues you're facing, if you could iterate it, probably our members can help you out.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Any idea how these pads suffered this kind of wear? Even metal part is also worn.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Hi. The one with the DRL is I guess 40W bulb. And the one I am currently using is 35W. The throw is amazing. Especially when you use the pass beam switch. Everytime you use that, it looks like an Audi asking for a way. And since the bulb also gets a fan and relay, it is much better in the price range. I'll try to send the pic by tonight.Originally posted by hypheni View Postleech and Ave. A huge thanks to both of you for putting some time on my post and replying soon. Seems there was a piece of stone stuck in your caliper assembly and damage the pads.Originally posted by hgps View PostAny idea how these pads suffered this kind of wear? Even metal part is also worn.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
I reckon the pads have been interchanged or have been installed in the wrong direction. The marks that you see should have occurred by the rotor clamping, such fine arc cannot be caused by a foreign object. The rotor is what has cut the the pad material plus the metal backing plate itself in an arc. How good is your rotor, do you see any excessive stepping. And when as the pad changed earlier?Originally posted by hgps View PostAny idea how these pads suffered this kind of wear? Even metal part is also worn.

Can you please explain what do you mean by interchange/wrong direction?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostI reckon the pads have been interchanged or have been installed in the wrong direction. I may be wrong but i think they cant be installed in wrong direction. I had removed these pads and checked for wear 2 months ago. Had installed them back myself.
Ps: rotor seems fine. Tried scratching the disc surface with my nail. Couldnt find any irregular surfaceThere is no destination, I just want to keep riding.
