What grade of engine oil do you folks use?
If the engine temperature is not above 3 bars, then you're good.

Don't run the 10w30 filled at service centres for full 6000 kms.

Most users on this forum use Shell Advanced Ultra as a replacement oil once the Honda throttle oil runs for about 1500 -2000 kms depending on engine noise and smoothness.

    • CBR250R- Service/ Parts availability Chennai

      Hello Friends,

This is my first post in xbhp and i'm really honored to be a part of this great community.
I recently bought a used 2014 CBR250R ABS with 16k kilometers on odo. I have to move to Chennai for my work and I've heard from a friend of mine who used to live in Chennai that there is no good servicing centers available for CBR and there is also an issue with parts availability.
Chennai based fellow riders could you please confirm me if this is true as I have no clue about this. If you could please provide locations of your trusted service centers that will be very helpful.
      Thanks in advance.

My CBR250r is 9 months old and from the beginning i have found that while changing gears there is quite a loud knock. This is specially in lower gears. Also randomly the gear will slip into neutral while shifting from one gear to the other.

I have heard that Honda Gear shifts are the smoothest but from my experience this is not true. The gears are not hard but they make quite a loud sound when shifting.
I brought it up during the service with the honda technicians and they keep adjusting the clutch and saying that this is normal.
Could other CBR250 owners please give me some views on this?
Is this sound and false neutral normal on CBR's?

        Thanks.
        Appreciate the replies.
That loud noise is prominent on almost most CBRs, they induce a thud when engaged in first and second, and sometimes annoyingly loud thuds when downshifting, quite normal for a new bike. The bike only smoothens itself out over a period of time and one way to smoothen the shift is through rev matching. Secondly, a properly adjusted clutch cable can make wonders in gear shift feel, excessively high and excessively low clutch play and bite point means harder and clunky shifts which in turn causes false gear shifts and the gear automatically ejects itself to neutral.

I usually idle my bike for 1~2min before taking it out in the morning.. Still bike feels sluggish..

And also engine feels harsh and too much vibration through out the bike.. the windshield and mirrors vibrate..

Bike is around 8months old and ODO is 4.3k kms..

I ride at max 60~80kmph and use all gears properly.. still the ride quality is bad..
my NS use to be very responsive and peppy to ride.. CBR feels sluggish compared to NS.
For most coming from Pulsar 220, or the Pulsar family, the CBR wouldn't feel that home to ride, mainly due to the way the power delivery is of the bike. The point where 220 loses steam is the point where CBR comes to life. Though you have more torque than the 220, the way it's delivered is where people find it hard. We Indians have been spoilt for torque low down, it just flows in the genes. Rev the bike past 6000 to have the real fun.

As my bike developed some issue and didn't crank at all - Details are here in this post , So I left my bike at the SVC for 7 days and after taking delivery I didn't ride much due to bad weather (rain and thunderstorm) here in Kolkata - Only Ride 40-45 km short here and there 15/20 KM for 2 Day so didn't notice this.

The issue is; Today I thought to lube my chain so I put it on the main stand and when I try to rotate the Rear Wheel it is hard to move by hand for an even single rotation...Last day (pre- Diwali Time) during my ride without the helmet at some internal road of my neighbourhood in the quiet afternoon I hard some 'Klich Klich' noise which generated near from the rear Axl which I thought then that it may need some lube....that's all....

So the Long Story Short my CBR's rear wheel is completely jammed...and I'm sure it is when the bike returned from the SVC it is not there earlier.

Now I know this for fact (as I experienced earlier) when I change my rear tire there is some parts at the rear Axl which not install correctly jammed the tire - I don't know the exact name of it....

My question here is it possible that parts are stolen by the SVC? - This SVC was trusted one and in past 2/3 times I left my bike there but now there are many new faces appearing every time I visit at SVC who may do something to my bike ...... here someone already mentioned the bike become donor bike for parts.

Please let me the know....the real issue here.
Stuck wheel equates to two possible conflicts, we have either a jammed wheel bearings or a faulty brake caliper piston that's jammed. Stuck wheel bearings produce a high pitched squeal or a squeak at varied sounds depending on the load. Get them both serviced.

        Cheers!

You can try didar motors in egmore, parts are there, I never faced a problem, within 2 weeks you should be able to get the other tougher parts I suppose. Also check out service plus in Anna Nagar, a professional service center run by a few friends who know and love what they do, do drop in check em out, they do pick up and delivery as well, they test ride your bike and even tell you the problems and take down yours and give a rough estimate and call you before starting any additional work.

I'm in need of help, and a little desperate.
            2011 model C-ABS, 28000km
Drive down from bangalore (to kerala). And have been experiencing overheating issues since.
On the highway, it stays at three bars no problem. In heavy traffic, it climbs to five bars in 15 min.
I've changed the oil (Motul 7100 synthetic 10w40).
And checked the coolant level (which is fine)
I'm at a bit of a loss atm as to what's causing the heating problem.
Ive checked the fan and I don't think it runs at all any more even when the engine is hot.
Im apprehensive to take the bike to an ASC I don't know.
            Help!

check the oil level first, when you changed the engine oil last? at present where are you in chennai now?

It has nothing to do with engine oil. If you don't notice the radiator fan running. Get it checked in SVC. It could be a faulty fuse or wiring issue. If not then changing the radiator fan would be the only way. I would suggest taking it to SVC and doing a proper diagnose.

Check if the radiator fan is running. It should come on within 10 mins of riding in heavy traffic. Coolant level is fine? Let the bike cool down overnight and check the coolant level in the radiator. The coolant should be visible there. And did you change the coolant once or is it the same from the beginning?

The one feature I feel is a definite miss on the CBR is the low oil pressure indicator, would have definitely come in handy for a HC engine like the 250R. Classic symptoms of a failed fan or fan relay. Since you've mentioned the highway runs keep the temperature under check, highway runs cool the radiator enough to keep the temperature in check. Once you hit traffic, air flow to the radiator is reduced, which in turn reduces cooling efficiency which in turns increased the bar count (phew!) Start off with inspecting if the fan is working, the CBR's cooling system is indeed a beautifully designed system. If the fan doesn't turn on, it reduces the cooling efficiency. You have a fan relay that's located on the left side of the bike, if we have a failed or faulty relay, the fan doesn't turn on which in turn reduces cooling efficiency.

Start off with coolant check IN THE RADIATOR, then the reservoir; observe if you can hear the fan running after the temperature reaches three to four bars, if it doesn't then we have a faulty fan or a faulty relay. If the fan kicks in and turns off fine, then we have a different problem, but let's first zero in on the basics.

                        Keep us posted.

                        Cheers!

I've checked oil level, it's a tad under maximum.
Coolest is between max and min.
I've checked the fan and have been doing so for a few days, it hasn't turned on at all since. And that's even when temp goes up to bar five.

Its a pre owned vehicle so I'll have to ask the previous owner if he's ever changed the coolant, but I haven't in 3000km of riding.

So yesterday I came across an issue which hit me 2nd time in 10 days. We know CBR has stalling issues and it has happened with me in the past when slowing down suddenly causes motorcycle to stall. Although it starts right away when I hit the self start, but these last two times when this happened it happened with a loud thud sound and the motorcycle stalled. It's loud enough to worry me. But like every other time its started right away. I'm regular with the services and i got my cbr services a week back. Kindly someone help me with it.

Is the service center trustworthy to leave the bike there as I have heard this bike has became a parts donor and i'm really worried about that.
It would be very helpful if you have any Adyar based service center information as the one is there 'kun honda' i'm not getting good reviews about that service center.
