About the filter, there is a very detailed thread by member shv18 about performance modification. Go through it, it will be an eye-opener.

I too have burnt my fingers in the quest for higher performance through the non standard route and hence my advice.

How good is this for Chain lube? does it run off after applying them?

Seeps well into the nooks and crannies.
Excess will splatter onto wheel rim.

Please go through with the manual book once as it’s given all the basic and important info. However without oil filter change it’s 1.4 Litre and with oil filter change it’s 1.5 litre.

cheers...

What is the part availability and any specific issues if any on CBR250 ? Looking to get a used bike in my city. The body panels have been replaced. Is 40k a good deal for a used CBR ?

40k is indeed a good deal, but the market is surely above that. Without sharing more details of the bike like which year, odo reading etc, cant say more. Is it a crashed bike ?

Having body panels replaced shows some indication of the bike being damaged earlier, hence body panels replaced. But do share the make year, odo. And before purchase, check with the service records.

I know i am sounding like bit stingy but there is nothing wrong if one can save some money on the small things were result is as same as of original. So anybody else did using fz or any cheap alternative of oil filters in their CBR.

Hey buddy,
I have been using FZ oil filter on mine with Shell Advance Ultra for 3k kms now. No problems at all And wrt shv18's thread, he is about to complete 20k kms with FZ oil filter so i think it should not be a problem if one goes for it. And yes, 300 for the oil filter is a bit expensive. Specially after knowing that there is a cheaper alternative available[emoji12] [emoji12]

Hello. Firstly congrats on taking a CBR 250r.
1) If you are a redline junkie, who wants to rip the bike 24/7 to its full potential, I would suggest using Motul 7100 10W 40 or Motul 300V 10W40. But if you are a calm and composed rider, Shell advanced Ultra 10W40 is the oil for you.
2) I usually lube my chain every Sunday and clean & lube every 2nd Sunday. Possibly I am doing it too soon, but then I like to keep my bike in as better condition as possible. Try going for Motul chain clean & Lube. Its works like charm.
3) Kindly switch back to Honda stock Air Filter. K&N performance air filters may be good and sounds better but then for Indian road conditions, the stock air filter is the best.
4) don't idle your bike for 1-2 mins on the morning. Let it be idle till you get atleast 1 bar of heat shown. I do that and I don't face any issue.
5) This mod was done by shv18. I did it too and it works quite well.
Take a 10mm wire of 60cm and get 2 battery connectors. Get them attached. (Use heat shrink tube if possible above it). Connect it to the battery and the earthing area. (It's a secondary earthing). It helps to smoothen the ride by a bit of a margin and a bit of better throttle response.

Cheers. ✌

• HONDA CBR250R - Engine died suddenly while riding

Hello,

I owned a pre-worshipped 2011 Honda CBR250R (ABS) with about 23k kms on the odo (Not sure if it has been ridden than that). I’ve had for about 2 years now and as such have had no issues apart from the problem of engine shim noise. It is a headache that I’ve not had the luck to have it resolved even after countless visits to the ASC.
However, I would like to discuss and get your expert advice, opinions and suggestions on another issue that I faced yesterday while on a long ride.

My buddy and me decided to do a long ride (Pune-Tamini Ghat- Pali-Khopoli-Lonavala-Pune). The bike was a joy to ride and I did not have any issues until I started climbing the steep ghats between Khopoli and Lonavala. I was riding at slow constant speed and keeping the revs below 6500 rpm, while taking one of the steep curves, I downshifted to first gear and when I release the clutch and tried to accelerate, the bike just died. It did not stall but fell like the bike just switched off. Felt like an electrical cut-off but everything else was working fine, I had my headlights on which was still on. I switched on my blinkers and tried to re-start the bike. While cranking the engine, I could feel the bike start for one or two ignition cycles and died when I release the starter switch. Took me about five minutes to restart the bike and then I rode it to a safe place and checked the bike. Everything was working fine and I saw a few drops of engine oil drip on the ground (most probably from the oil filter seal). The bike rode fine till I reached home.

What I’m baffled with is why the bike stopped so suddenly? I could have been riding on the highway and such an incident may end with me getting into an accident.
Please let me know what you think of this and what I need to check, repair or replace.

Thanks

Admins: Please move this to the proper thread. Thanks!

What was the fuel level while climbing ghat?

I rode from this ghat many times, as i lived in lonavala in engineering days.
My CBR used to give burning smell after climbing only on this ghat!!

Hello mate, I believe no one can answer you on that. Indian Honda guys were expecting some announcement last month which later came only with cbr650 update. Their wild guess is even if Honda bring back CBR bs 4, they won't get the sales due to outdated model and specs. So their expectation is cbr300 which is pretty much similar with a small bump on bhp and fairing.
Again we know the fact that, If new model comes, Honda will increase the price and it won't be able to match with competion. New CBR is hardly 30bhp. I think this is the reason both Honda and Suzuki confused with 250-300cc market, they don't have a right bike for the current Indian market.
For an example, when I did a braking test between Honda and Bajaj dominar abs, the difference was very clear, a good abs CBR will give you a lot of confidence in corner and high speed. Now i am justified why Honda was charging such a premium on abs bikes, but in market this won't work. People will simply compare anything and one side we have KTM series which is loaded with power and features. Honda other side charge premium, more than power figures they will give a reliable engine and better ownership experience.

And the AIR FILTER i use is K&N Stock replacement air filter..
Hello mate, when I bought my CBR 3-4 months back, I was also under the same situation and I was comparing with my unicorn. Somewhere we need to understand this engine and nature, and slowly I was understanding the other problems. They are given below, may b it may help you.
1) right gear on right speed, CBR having its on character, you will slowly reach there. It took almost 2 month for me.
2) Even though I was lubing chain, the chain was dirty and it needed a proper cleaning. A bad chain will give you rough ride and hard gears.
3) Honda service- my last 2 service was not good I guess. This time I gone through forums, identified the best mechanic in Bangalore, took one day leave and serviced the bike. I would say bike improved 25-30%.
4) next is Honda engine oil, it's not having a long life, oil once crossed 2000 range, it slowly decreasing the performance. Many are saying, shell is much better and you use your own ideas to understand the replacement time, not just rely on kilometres.
5) I had a faulty clutch cable, my bike also pretty new so I never thought I had issue there. But a good engineer will be able to identify that.

Apart from this I am using only good petrol ( shell precisely) also using a injector cleaning additive these days.

So overall, it better, again I can't get the smoothness of a unicorn, engine nature is different and I am pretty happy with it's performance considering it's a 250cc single cylinder engine. Ok let me said this also, I went for bike trip here with couple of friends, it was a mixed group with all new bikes, including new Duke 390. Initially I thought I wont be able to match with them due to lower specs, but CBR was just amazing. The high speed performance, cornering confidence and abs helped me to drive better than anyone. End of the day, when we checked the mileage, it was again a surprise
So don't worry, ride safe
