My CBR has seen around 16300Kms so far in about 1 year 1 month.
Yesterday while cleaning up, I noticed a few bent fins in the radiator. Is this a thing to be concerned about? I usually take it to the SVC every 4K Kms. Never noticed this before.

Bent fins are the result of pressure wash directly to the radiator. The effect of bent fins would be early heating up of the engine. The precautions are : [1] Do avoid pressure wash to the radiator. [2] you can get a radiator guard fixed. Its available at planetdsg.com

Hope the above points help.

Atlast, became the owner of a pre-worshipped CBR 250r. Just bought a 2013 Apr Black Silver ABS ran 2700kms for 1.3L. I extend my gratitude to all members in this thread which helped me to learn about the bike alot and especially to RG Sir's blog with which i was sitting since last week. The bike is missing its toolkit and service booklet which left me wonder whether the bike had atleast undergone an oil change. I do feel the engine to be quite rough but could confirm as I havent riden a new/well maintained cbr before. Never mind, will be giving the bike for service in couple of days to know its health stats. . All in all, I started growing love towards it!omments and suggestions are most welcome.

Check for service history from previous owner.
Upon hard acceleration by twisting the throttle , Check for metal clanging noise from the engine.
If the engine is still running on the Honda OEM synthetic oil change it to motul synthetic oil of same grade, preferably motul 7100. Made a world of difference to my Ceeber compared to Honda OEM oil.
Check for clutch play Post oil change. Smooth shifts are a sure shot indicator that clutch is fine.
Inflate tires as per factory specification. 29 front and 33 rear.

vivekarizma: Time to change your username to vivekcbr that's a good bargain you got. Regarding past servicing, you can ask the past owner when he did it last and can confirm it from that service center.

Honda 250 is pretty bullet proof engine, so unless there is anything severely wrong (which would have shown up by now), I don't think you need to worry. Enjoy your almost new bike. 2700kms are nothing for this bike.

First of all thank you for posting a quick briefing.
Regarding service history, the owner was not sure as it was his son's who has left abroad. Upon probing i concluded that there is no use in it.
on hard acceleration while standstill i didnt hear/suspect any metal clanking or unusual noise protruding from engine. While on the move, I couldnt describe, the exhaust note is bassy n I do feel the engine to be rough, as per HONDA standards.
Planing to stick with H.A.S.S atleast until 10000kms as advised by my friend who fortunately is a service manager in one of the H.A.S.S in chennai.
Will be observing the engine behaviour post oil change to conclude on the bike stats.
tire pressure done as advised.
Cheers!

Hi Vivekarizma,

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the club.

2700kms on odo for 1.5 year old bike is almost like never ridden for long time, so make sure that all fluids are in proper condition and no doubt it is very solid bike to give you troubles on the long run but it's better to check and replace things now than to spend later on.

Do update us after ur service is done.

Hi binarycodes,

Post a pic of the radiator to get the idea of damage done to the fins. if it's minimal I do not think a replacement is necessary, and some times the bent fins can be straightened out with some delicate work with flat screwdriver and a cloth but do post a pic for the experts to comment more on this.

You don't have to replace the radiator. Just get a guard and take it to svc to get it fitted.

Thank you Jii. Bike is back from service. As said earlier, my friend; a service manager in one of the HASS, gave a genuine report on the bike stats. Overall, the bike had ran only for the aforementioned kms and was serviced accordingly. Engine is very good as a new one and no sorts of rattles/anonymous noise were suspected. Engine oil and oil filter was changed and all fluids were flushed out and filled up. Fork was adjusted, silencer shield repainted and bolts holding RVMs were replaced as the former looked a bit dull with scratches and the latter was rusted. Chain was waxed and the bike was water washed and polished. Total bill came to around 1200INR with a toolkit as a complimentary. Engine now feels smooth, alot before oil change. Im luvin it!!
I am now in the lookout for a radiator guard and a way to fit mudflap to the front fender. Will be dirtying my hands coming weekends through DIY for the above, may be. Suggestions are most welcome!!

first things first : even if oil change was done. its been sitting atleast over 6 months which is shelf life of oil once opened as it reacts with oil and moisture and heat.
checklist :

oil change (asap) shell ultra 10w-40 (best stuff) 1.4L is normal. this time with oil filter change 1.5L
engine has not yet finished break-in. cbr engine takes some time to settle down. dont rip too hard until 4k or so .. though gradually you can do speeds above 100 also (safety first)
check brake pads and get them rubbed and cleaned.
clean chain with brush and diesel/kerosene and then lube well. if leaving bike at ASC ask them to remove the chain and dip in gear oil 90 over night and take out in morning and put it back after it stops dripping. it will be as good as new.
air pressure.
change brake fluids asap. change interval 15k/every year . whatever is earlier. all these are non expensive stuff but new.

that bike is virtually new.. and thats one sweet deal you got..

and remove that hideous tank bag asap..looks ugly on a cbr man.

1200 INR for all fluid change is very low as per my guess, can you share the cost split up for the fluids and services.

My opinion opt for either the mudflap or the radiator guard, having 2 different things to do a single job is practically not the best solution.

Oil, filter change, all fluids change, general service was done at a HASS. Brakes and pads were checked, chain was adjusted, cleaned and waxed. But both were not done in a way as stated by you. Will keep a note of it and notify them during next service. Ive planned to go light with the throtlle atleast until 5000kms with occasional bursts above 5000rpms. Currently im staying away from bike so unable to do all the stuffs I wish. Planin to remove saree guard, tank bag, number plates to IND ones, change pilot lamps to philips cool blue and head lamp to philips xtreme vision which i took from my ZMA. Iam_Hoodi_CBR: As I mentioned earlier, the service manager in the HASS is a close friend of mine and so was billed only for oil, those RVM bolts and labour. My plan is to protect the radiator fins from debris of all sources and mudflaps to control the splashing on all possible areas at the vicinity of front tyre! am I wrong?

Changed my Front & Rear Brake pads of my ABS model. But now I see noise from my both brakes. Like two substance are rubbing each other. It's brake pads & disc ofcourse. But why?
Spoke to SVC then he said its a new pads so it needs circulation. Later it will get adjusted.

I am scared of over wore of brake pads due to rubbing. Is it happening in CBR for all or just me, that mech has did something wrong???
