Tyre sealant is an option, but considering the cost it might incure, i am having second thoughts.

Mate if money is what you are concerned about then there are alterantive options for the same. Agreed nothing beats having a pair of shoes from Metz, Pirellis or say Michelins for your beloved ride... but for a budget conscious tourer may be you can look at "Sasta, Sadaaa aur tikaau" (cheap, no nonsense and reliable) options??

I feel may be you can look at the following:

* Yamaha FZ's, MRF Revs front tire (100 - 80 - 17) & Ceat Dhoom (140-70-17): should not cost you more than 6 - 6.5k for the whole set. Understandably, the front tire profile is different than stock one but the grip is phenomenal from this tire.

* MRF FC/ FC1 (110-70-17) front tire from KTM Duke & Ceat Dhoom: 6 - 6.5k (KTM front tire has been extensively used by a lot of long distance riders on their respective CBR's with good results)

* MRF FC/FC1 + Ralco Blaster (140-70-17): 6k though i don't have any detailed reviews about any tires from Ralco.

Ceat Dhoom are "H" rated tires. performance is acceptable and better than contigos but are nowhere near that of the Michelins.

If you can cough up a bit more money and opt for the Michelin Pilot Street Radials (Thailand made) then they will offer you ample amount of grip on dry and wet conditions and should last you close to 20 - 21k kms. Will cost around 8.5 - 9.5k for the front and rear set.

I would advise: it doesn't make any sense spending on tire puncture protection fluid in an ageing tire which is on its way out. Rather invest on newer tire and then you can finally get rid off the "Curse of the Contigos" for good! May be at a later date you can then fill in RideOn TPS or other puncture protection fluid.

Cheers,
A quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

Hey Shiv, long time mate..!!
And yeah, new tyres are already in plan and have kept aside fund for it, but atleast for a few more months, i am going to do nothing but city commutes, so i do not want to waste the soft compounds for going from point A-B which is mostly just a straight line(read boring)

So till then or till the monsoon doesn't start, keeping up with the Conti's , just have to fill air in them every week or so.

Cheers

Hey new CBR owner here, getting my bike next week. Been meaning to ask- is it advisable to fill nitrogen in tires or is filling air a better option?

lovely explanation shv18, I have been using Michelins radials for the last 9k kms and they are still good to go for another 5k min. My theory is based on the usage of Michelin M45 on my zma which lasted 15k kms. it costed me 10k for the set ad I m pretty satisfied with them with a exception that they feel a little heavy than contigos.

You can go for filling up your tyres with nitrogen, no problems.

But then I don't opt for nitrogen cause more the temperature of the tyre better is be the grip as the tyres stick better to road at higher rubber temperatures.

Nitrogen was introduced in the world of FORMULA 1 because of their high tyre temperatures due to stresses caused by constant rapid acceleration and declaration.
The above said condition does not come close to the abuse on normal roads.

Yes, filling up with nitrogen means you don't have to refill frequently like that in case of AIR.
It merely keeps the tyre temperatures cooler which leads to poor grip and eventually higher mileage.

I would say if you are a biking freak for cornering and high speeds stick to regular AIR filling.
On the other hand if you are just using your bike for commuting to work or college and hell bent on mileage figures for your bike NITROGEN is the answer.

Thanks mate! I certainly wont be using it just for the commute so will probably stick to air for now then.

Another question- the saree guard on the bike looks rather ugly. Is it against the law to get it removed?

Perhaps some update on the tires would be helpful. Have Honda replaced the Contis for MRF or any other in the 2015 models, that'd be one thing to jot down. Keep us posted on that front.

Your increasing interest in the CBR is interesting :-P

BTW, i think the contigo's won't go anytime soon.
Probably with the facelift maybe it'll help.

Haha! Well, you can say that again.

Well, I've been hearing some rumors that, the newer 2015 are shod with MRF rubber, how legitimate? I am totally clueless. Personally the VFR theme looked great, the newer Ninja-ish looks look great, but looking close, at the side panels, they almost resemble a re-touched Ninja body work. The VFR had its genuine roots to the GW, a genuine Honda. But with this I don't think it does justice to the CBR brethern. But that's just me.

Day by day, the interest is soaring! God help us!

The smart thing to do would be get them with the contigos, swap them first day itself with the michelin pilot street, those are the best for the cbr.

That's precisely, where Indian attitude kicks in, why remove a brand new tire. Use it to max. Dunk! But I'd suggest use the Metzeler in the front and use the Michelin in the back? Anyone tried this combination. Front being the sweet spot, for "we the bikers" this would be interesting.

Cheers!

Trust me, with the contigos, there is no max, it never wears off and it sucks monkey balls..!!
That is indeed a good combo, will have to check out the cost aspect of it.
Pirellis are also an option, thinking about it as well
