I'm about to buy an used CBR250R C-ABS. I live in Chennai and this is the first bike i'm about to buy by myself.
The owner of the bike has moved abroad and his father is selling the bike. He has all the blank documents signed by his son.
Apart from the form 29 & 30 there is Delivery note and seller receipt as documents. As a proof of my payment is seller receipt is enough? or any other document I should collect from the seller.
Is the puc form mandatory for name transfer? As the seller said he don't have one.
As much I can figure I have to make the payment, sign the papers, submit the papers to rto and ride home with the bike. Is there anything i'm missing or anything to prevent me from getting cheated. And the seller is insisting on cash as payment method. Is this safe?
As this is my first time I'm so much confused. It would be very helpful if someone could help me out ASAP as i'll be buying the bike tomorrow.

    Thank you in advance.
In addition to the above post, with all the mess that I am personally facing ( lack of trained mechanics/ parts) I would highly suggest against the cbr.

If any cbr owner residing in mumbai and looking for trained and experienced mechanic, please let me know. I know a mechanic who does all major works of cbr at affordable labour charge.

Check the tyre pressure. Front bearings. Check front tyre condition.

For the rear axel, for both the sides what was the size for the ring spanner? I am planning to buy a pair to tighten my chain on the go.

Ofcourse there can be genuine reasons why the owner is not available to meet in person as appears to be in your case but be vigilant all the times

If the bike looks good, i would you the following:

              1. Get copy of owner's ID card (passport preferably since he's abroad)
              2. Speak to the owner over a skype/whatsapp video call & see that you are talking to the genuine owner & take his consent on the sale
              3. Don't make any payment in cash. Pay by cheque or bank transfer only in the name or to the account of original owner as appearing in the RC
              4. PUC isn't much to worry about, just get a new one less than 100 bucks. Ateast that's the case in Mumbai.

The combination of the owner not being present in person & demanding cash payment probably reflect foul intentions of sorts. If I were you, I'd stay away & look for other deals.

Also, do state the details of bike (year, kms, conditions, no. of owners etc) & deal price so that members here can advise accordingly.

Hope you haven't already finalized the deal by the time you see this.

              Thank you for your response.
The owner is in abroad for higher studies. And in RC I can see the person who came to meet me his name is mentioned as his father. He is agreed to accept half cash and half as bank transfer.
The bike has run 27k KMS, 2014 model. No problems at all as far as I can see. I'm attaching some images so that senior members can advise me on the same.
And is it true that there is parts shortage for this bike? I have not finalized the deal yet. The asking price is 80k.Click image for larger version

The oil strainer that sits below the oil pump doesn't need to be cleaned every time. As a general rule, every 6 to 10k would be the ideal interval. Secondly, if one can DIY, then it can be cleaned every oil change.

Coming to the commotion of the availability of spares, the CBR 250R is one odd one of the lot that has different opinions with regard to spare availability. Second,y spares are available for the 250 R but they are available on-demand on most sub-dealers. Usually the mothership or the main service center, like DIDAR for example do stock parts for the CBR 250R. Most of the parts for the CBR aren't expensive to consider this one a deal-breaker.

Secondly, from the pictures you've posted, the bike looks pretty much okay. One oddity though, perhaps it might be the angle, I feel your chain sprocket has come to the half mark, meaning it has half more life left. Secondly, check your rear wheel alignment, the sensors and the Pulser ring nut are too close for comfort, when compared the caliper mount. I do see a nick on the ABS Pulser ring on the rear wheel and I suspect a misalignment. From the looks of it, the rear wheel ABS sensor and the Pulser ring nut are too close.

Check your ABS for any faults. The ABS light should go off after 10 KMPH on the speedo, indicating a healthy ABS system. Do keep a close eye on the test ride, check for any abnormal sounds emanating from the rear wheel. If the ABS light blinks constantly during the ride, or blinks fast, it's time to check the sensor and what not.

                All the best!

                Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Thank you so much for your reply sir.
A fellow member mentioned here Didar motors as his servicing center. I can't recall his name i'm sorry for that. But the google reviews for this service center are horrible. I found another servicing center named DS MOTO which is located in Perungudi. I took a glance at their facebook page and every customer posted that the servicing is very satisfying there and price is also reasonable. I'm thinking of paying them a visit tomorrow.
Another thing I need to ask that, is it a MUST to obtain the actual invoice of the bike from the seller or else I won't be able to pay the road tax when I change the state? I haven't talked with the seller about this.

About the pulsar ring nut I have noticed it also but the abs system is working absolutely fine. The abs light went off as it should after 10kmph. And I successfully tested the abs system while I was around 35kmph. I will give it another look. Thank you so much.

Usually, it's better to go for the lesser priced one, financially. The vehicle's condition does come into play w.r.t pricing and the mileage on the odo. A thorough test ride will give you clear picture.

                      Cheers!

Not spoiling the mood, but the tank looks repainted to me. Where is the Honda logo on it ? Its impossible to remove it without repainting.

Bought mine with 4k on the odo in 2013. Done over 50k now.
This one just needs regular service and that's all.
If the engine and gearbox checks out, there's no major issue that could give you any trouble.

Its better to stick with models which have documented service history. Have seen a case at service centre where a CBR150 was run with odometer disconnected & serviced locally.
The unsuspecting second owner had a shock once he took the bike to authorised service centre. Had to shell out for major repairs to engine head and valves.
