And yes, if the chain slacks way longer it'll affect the performance, and is very dangerous when you're riding 100+ kmph. I'm saying this with experience when my gear shift over 100+ did not get smoothly conveyed from my lever to the wheel sprocket, and jerked the shit out of me in overtakes. Just be regular in making sure it is tightened in case you're out under the sun. Cheers sir.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
No. Unlike a bicycle chain, motorcycle chains don't jump out soon because the transversal play of the chain is very less. However, teeth wear out if the slack is excessive. Tight as per company recommendations? Do you mean the SVC? No, it can't jump out, despite feeling a tiny bit slacky even in stock setup. (around 0.5-0.75 inch)Originally posted by leech View Post

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Vattsy - according to CBR 250 manual, correct chain slack is 1.2 inches. Damage to swingarm may occur if the chain slack length is more than 2 inches.
My chain slack varies from 0.8 inches and 1.3 inches of slack. Hence the questions. Also none of other owners have reported chain life in excess of 35k, so I need to be crystal clear as to when to change my chain set.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Maybe, these are the problems with good riding and lubing habits. Having a Just-in-time is hard with chains until they breakdown, but I don't see any reason why you should change it as long as the length of the chain remained the same (being measured in the slack).Originally posted by leech View PostI need to be crystal clear as to when to change my chain set.I meditate as I ride to find a place to sit and meditate.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Chnaged the brake pad only after 2300kms? Honda OEM brake pads can't go that much of wrong. Do post a picture of the old pads here to get some info from other owners.Originally posted by Ave2592 View PostHello everyone. My bike has done 2300+ Kms in two months now. Re: Honda CBR 250R
You shouldn't wait for any sounds or any knackering per se to replace your chain. Since, you've clocked more than 30k on stock chain that itself is quite an achievement these days. Secondly, if you require a definite time frame or when you are supposed to change your sprocket; check your manual, you have a page where it mentions the replacement guidelines. The sprocket and chain combo should be replaced, if and when the tooth of the sprockets front or back have been sharpened like an arrow tip or hooked, that's when you are required to change your chain and sprocket.Originally posted by leech View Post@B7ACKTHORN - nope, I haven't cut any links. There has never been too much slack with my chain, it's always below ~1.5 inches.
I bought a spare chain and sprocket last year from Honda SVC to change it as soon as needed. But since I have no sounds near the sprocket when running, and the slack is always fine, I'm hesitant to do so.
Can the chain jump out of a sprocket even if it's tight as per company recommendations?
Regarding chain jumping, given the circumstances, extremely loose chain can indeed jump the sprocket and can damage the crank case and worse break it. And when I mean extremely, it can happen when you ride or you never know. Check the sprockets and the tooth and then proceed to replacement if required. Post a photo of both the front and rear, perhaps we can take a look.
Cheers!

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
is this safe. Bike manufacturers, especially Honda, test their products. And with their years of experience, they give you the best available. You don't mess with high performance machines.Originally posted by Only Amit... View PostI said it is OT as I don't own a CBR, I just want to know in general what happens. I own a ZMA-R and I have tried making the gearing taller in past by changing the rear sprocket to P220 sprocket.
For ZMA and for most of the bikes the kmph/rpm changes if we change the sprockets. With stock sprocket ZMA does 100kmph at 6000RPM where as with a 38 teeth sprocket it does the same at 5500RPM.
Is it different for CBR and why?
i have scoured international forums and multiple blogs, Honda is consistent, except for the conti go tyres, everything is the same.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Sorry but I didn't keep the old shoe brake. But even after fitting the new brake pads, the braking power is still on the lower side. Waiting for a cbr mechanic who is supposed to come this month from Mumbai I guess to inspect my bike.Originally posted by hypheni View PostChnaged the brake pad only after 2300kms? Buddy, always keep the old parts. Without even knowing what's wrong with the brakes, why did you discard that?Originally posted by Ave2592 View PostSorry but I didn't keep the old shoe brake. When you say the rear brake are weak, do you stomp the brakes or do you apply light pressure on them?

From now on I'll keep the old parts if ever changed.Originally posted by leech View PostBuddy, always keep the old parts. Without even knowing what's wrong with the brakes, why did you discard that?

Earlier applying light pressure was more than enough but now I've to stomp in order to get little bite from the brake. And the mechanic unable to solve the issue is making me feel really bad since this is my first bike which I got after 4 years of argument, request and plead, as my family is very against bikes.

Well, I have a non ABS, and it feels the same way your bike does, sometimes. I have to stomp the pedal to slow the bike.Originally posted by Ave2592 View PostFrom now on I'll keep the old parts if ever changed.

B7ACKTHORN - Here are the chain and sprocket pics:

The chain adjuster is on the red zone.
PS: Please ignore the bee on my front sprocket. I've had all sorts of insects and small animals living on my bike, like a baby lizard in console, a green spider near the middle fairing that hops out and stays on the mirror when I go for a long ride. Some wasps made a nest on the horn too. [emoji19]Last edited by leech; 05-07-2017, 04:21 PM.
