You also need to take into consideration, the wiring, which itself is a costly affair and if done wrongly can and will FRY YOUR ECU in a matter of seconds. The CBR's ECU is very sensitive to malpractice in the wiring department. You need to get the entire bike replaced right from alloys to ECU and what not. Not a kid's play and not intended for the unintended. I personally wouldn't recommend such a conversion. Instead get yourself a used C-ABS bike and spending that money on getting the things sorted on that bike is a wise decision to save your money.

The rollers on my chain are getting loose, they are rolling when I lube them. I have a 350 kms ride on Christmas day, should I can it?

I had bought an extremely well maintained 6k run 2014 pearl sunbeam white CBR(std) from my friend in 2015 June. After owning it for close to 2years, I let go of her. Sold it to my friend. Am content that it will be in my close circle and can ride her whenever I want to.
Coming to the reason, I am still not very clear as to how I agreed to sell her when my friend goaded me to. But nevertheless, I was really bored with the reliability of the bike, trust me, never once did the bike disappoint me with breakdown during 2 and half years of my ownership. My only grouse was it's weight and turning radius. Am penning this down because am reading queries by prospective buyers who are about to buy a used bike, for all of you, I can assure you that the engine on CBR 250r is bombproof and utterly refined for a single, you just cannot go wrong with this beauty. Happy riding.

sharathchandra - only if the previous owner took care of it, will the CBR250 withstand the test of time. I've read every single page in the CBR 250 thread, and while I don't boast to remember it all, I recall CBR250s with blown engine due to modding, CBR250s with faulty cct at 700 kms on odometer, and CBR250s with shim problems which didn't go away despite shim change (later found to be mechanic error). Also one guy had his stator coil go bad while on a trip. Had to tow it to a SVC. The lockset also has given up on some bikes, mine is going to give up the ghost soon.

I have been lucky I guess 😉 but the CBR 250r is far better than other bikes in it's segment and price point. As far as I can recollect, shims issue n blown engine were seen in the 1st batches. I never faced lockset problem as I used to lubricate it with coconut oil after each wash or rains.
And with regards to my bike, the previous owner had kept it in an impeccable condition n I too followed his advice in maintenance and periodical upkeep. 😊

Rollers normally roll, the smoother the rollers, the better the chain is. But, what you got to know the "elongation" of the chain itself. Pull the chain at the 3 o'clock position and if the chain extends by more than 3 cms, it's time to replace your chain. As long as your chain is on the right spec, neither too loose nor too taut, you should be fine.

Cheers!

Absolutely mate, I had a plan to buy this bike on 2011-12 time. Due to low salary and home construction, I had to let it go. Later I was always watching/following this bike at one side. Looks are subjective, but the Ducati red colour one was always an eye catchy for me, later the white colour with trio stickering, bike was looking very big on that. So 2009-10 to up to now ( even now I have) I was using an old 87 model bullet and a Honda unicorn. Last year I started my search again, this time my budget was close to 4 lakh, also I was looking reliable and a robust engine for a matured drive. Let me quickly update my total bike hunt summary as below,

Kawasaki Ninja 300:- I started with this bike. Generally I won't follow new bike launch review comments or sales people explanation. I will go with long term review and real owners. The used bike market, I didn't get a good deal. New one was not justifying its price tag. Atleast abs should have been there, but no luck. Again current model was almost outdated.

Benelli TNT 300 :- this was close to my requirement, the sporty exhaust note was a big plus. But when I gone through xbhp TNT 300 thread, I did understand that it's 300 cc bike with superbike maintenance. Service interval was very short, my friend had a hyosung bike, so aware of support from DSK. My wife was so supportive to buy, she was liking the rear seat and the bikes matured look. In between one of my friend was selling his 1 year old red bike. I thought to have visit with him for a service check-up. Believe me guys, 1 year old 10k odo bike service quote was 23 k which include a chain and sprocket replacement. He was also surprised, he used to maintain with his best knowledge. I dropped the plan, he had tough time to sell that bike, now switched to tiger.

Yamaha r3:- this was a great bike, quite reliable and maintenance is manageable. The real time users were saying mileage is low, almost equal to Kawasaki 650 series. This bike I dropped mainly due to its rear seat, frankly no one can travel sitting there. In between my friend got a good deal due to bs3-4 conflicts, he was saying, none of friends are travelling with him these days. Again, abs is a big factor for me, so I just let it go.

Thunderbird 500:- I tried my best to compromise and buy this bike. Frankly RE sales people were very gentle to me, I had a plan to sell my 87 model and switch to classic 500 or TB 500. They were advising me to keep 87 model always, and no one can replace that riding feel. I believe that's true, may be a only a core RE old bullet guy only can understand me on that point. In between my bullet was turning 30 year, so I thought I will do a full restoration with new classic 500 parts.

Mojo 300:- I believe this bike look is subjective, some how I was fine with it's look. My office colleague bought the bike, from his view, I understood that braking (fish tailing) is a big issue there. I did a long test drive, understood each points. Again I got a deal due to bs3-4 issues, almost 35k discount. I confirmed a bike through Bangalore area manager and went to Bannerghatta show room for booking. But the sales person was not genuine, he did something and swapped the sales to someone else in last minute. OK, I just dropped my plan there itself, no more mojo.

Bajaj dominar:- I was following this bike from the day it's launched. I was reading xbhp pages each day's. The bike is great for its price, but I was able to find a lot issues. I never like to frequently visit show room for resolving issues. I did test drive bike for vibration issues, kind of understood all present issues. The Bajaj sales/service engineers are not really trained for this bike which was a let down. I reached Bajaj customercare with my understanding and with all proofs( xbhp forum guys were maintaining an excel sheet with open issues), frankly no proper response from Bajaj. I understood that once you bought, it's just you. I dropped the plan.

Duke 250:- yes, I was not considering Duke 390, many of friends are using it. I am not a fan of KTM series. I felt Duke 250 is good but wife was not liking it. Low mileage, no abs, high on road price in Bangalore, so I just dropped this one too.

Fz250:- I was expecting some more specs, I definitely needed better bike than this one. So I had to drop it.

CBR 250:- by this time, I was mad with following all bikes. I understood that CBR is an all rounder. Went to buy a new bike, almost booked a new abs, then just started searching in OLX. I met with one of office colleague through OLX, so I reached to a bike which I was seeing in our parking lobby. Believe me guys, he was maintaining its like a show room piece. I didnt see anything else, just brought her home. The seller is a good friend of mine these days, he always think it was a bad decisions from his side.

Sorry for such a long reply, also pls excuse my language, I wasn't prepared for this.

The essence of the CBR that is. Once you love it, you just can't un-love it. A true jack of all trades indeed. I've known many people who've regretted their selling decision, only to find they'd missed it even more.

Cheers!

She looks great, mine also same colour. Only one suggestion is, you can wrap the exhaust heat protection cover with a nice film.

Yes, carbon fibre black would look great.

I'm 6ft 2, been using the bike for 3 years and 4 months, and 39500kms later, it's absolutely does everything well, even I was suggested ktm, royal Enfield and hero. I checked the ergos and the riding position I found very favorable, not too committed but not too upright. This bike does quite alright in the city, a bit more of low end torque would have been welcomed, but it's a highway mile muncher and can do hours and hours of riding without much issues apart from ur butt depending on condition of your seat.
