  • Re: Honda CBR 250R

Hi guys. I took my new 1 month old cbr out early in the morning at 5 am and some dogs came and made me fall down by hitting the bike. Felt horrible to see it down.

The gear Lever has bent inwards so it won't change gears and there are some scratches on the faring. Just wanted to ask how much would changing the faring cost? And will it get covered by insurance?

Good price, try to negotiate and choose looking at engine condition, honda engines are good, but if they are to be rebuilt it costs a lot. The old colours and plastic parts are no longer available, so finding the correct color fairings would be a challenge.

          Hello people,
This is something I came across on my cbr this morning, looks like a coolant leaking situation.
Want to know how severe it can be does it require immediate attention or can it wait for a few days?

            1) Rear brake makes a "tick" sound when ever I press the rear brake lever. Its less audible if I use helmet. it occurs immediately when apply pressure on brake lever and once it happened, sound wont come again till the time I release the brake. But the sound comes when i apply brake next time. Also it may not happen everytime I apply brake. I am sure it happens from the rear area (mostly from brake caliper assembly side). I checked caliper assembly and couldn't find any loose parts and brake pad has life left on it. it is an ABS model.
get the caliper removed, cleaned, and apply grease on the caliper pin. the rear is a sliding caliper (same unit as the one on a ktm and most other bikes around where one part of the caliper is fixed i.e. the side that has the piston and the other side moves, to engage pads onto the rotor ). i've experienced this on my duke 200 and greasing the caliper pin solved it. should take around 20 mins labor and a bit of grease on the caliper pin (which is covered by a rubber boot).
this happens when the caliper isn't able to slide freely due to loss of lubrication and dust build up over time.

Coolant and engine oil leak require immediate attention. It seems your coolant is leaking on the fixture on the cylinder. Do you see the thick L like pipe that's what transfers coolant from the water pump to the engine. You need to remove this L shaped pipe, install a new O ring and then tighten, it will solve the leak issue. The sooner you get the coolant issue sorted, the lesser the chances of engine overheat and worse possible engine seizure.

The bent lever can be mended by a mechanic as they use rings spanner and some muscle power to mend it back, or you can heat up the lever and then mend the bend, this process is cheap and effective and many lathe guys do it, if you are not willing to replace it with a new lever. Secondly, the fairing each costs 3.5k~ish each side and if you're under warranty you definitely can claim warranty.

              2) Now a days I hear back fire when I decelerate. Not loud noise. But mild and continuous popping sound. Never noticed this before. my bike is 4 year old and with 34K odo.

Did you guys face/hear of these issues on CBR? I couldn't find similar instances in this thread when I searched. Any suggestions?
The tick sound can be due to the spring pressure. The brake pedal spring is latched in place by hooks at either ends, sometimes when engaging the pedal mild play or twisting motion happen, and causes a click sound or krrk sound when pressing the lever, it isn't a problem. You can try applying a few drops of oil to the spring latch eye and the spring itself and see if it helps. Decel pops are normal, it happens when the engine is running lean during decel, nothing to worry. As long as your performance isn't affected negatively, there's nothing to worry about.

              Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
              The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Hi Guys... I am planning to buy a used CBR 250R...

                1. Is Rs. 90,000 a good price for 2016 ABS model?
                2. I am a noob. Is there a thread that lists things I should inspect before buying a used bike?

                Please help me out!

90k is a good enough deal for an ABS one. But what comes to play is how much has it run and how well the bike is maintained. If that checks your boxes, it's a good deal. Check the PDI Thread, it pretty much covers the same aspects of purchasing a new vehicle and the same applies to a used bike also.

                  Cheers!

Thanks VJ. The bike has run for 31,000 kms. I will check out the PDI thread and inspect the bike to know more.

I checked the bike in person. Odo reads 29,200 kms. Tyres have been changed to Michelin Pilot Street at 20k km. I did a test ride and revd the bike hard. It seemed well refined. I couldn't hear any noise. Brakes were good and electricals were fine. There were few scratches on the muffler but that is expected from a 3 year old bike. Brake pads have been changed once (he doesn't remember when). Regularly serviced. Insured till March 2020.

We agreed on a final price of 85,000.

My concern is what else needs to be inspected from my end before making the purchase? Should I take a mechanic with me for final inspection? (I am a complete noob)
                      Should I bargain more?

If you can bargain more, and the seller obliges, why not, definitely worth the try. Secondly, apart from tires, it's best to make sure it gets a second vote of confidence from your trusted mechanic. If you feel the vibes are good with the bike, especially after test riding it, braking, tires, engine performance, overall body parts condition, i.e. rusting and what not, I'd say go ahead.

                        Cheers!

                          Thanks for your advice.

Purchased the bike after getting approval from my mechanic. I was riding it all day and experienced all positives that has been shared by its riders. Only thing I underestimated was the engine heat (in peak traffic but not in highways. Guess it has to do with reduced air flow in traffic). Moving on from FZ16, engine heat is something I guess I need to get accustomed too. The speedometer shows 3 bars (heat) in traffic (which I heard is normal) but I still found it very hot.

                          Happy riding!

Hi everyone my CBR 250R 2018 model odo 18,500km. Im facing a new issue of handlebar wobble when leaving hand. Also my fairing and steering head are not aligned in straight line just now only noticed..
Might this be a fork bend issue or wheel allignment issue.
Had one standing tip over once @12k kms in parking from loose soil. Damage was only clutch lever bent which i later straightened. Could this be the cause?

most likely misalignment of the forks/triple clamp.. and not fork bend.
and maybe readjustment of steering stem bearing (coneset) tightness or replacement if adjustment doesn't fix the issue.

Hi guys I recently noted a post somewhere on FB that Honda has reduced prices of CBR spares after Kawasaki reduced N300 spare prices. Any idea? My 40k run CBR, bought preused at 23k kms is relatively trouble free but is in need of some spares, mainly for preventive maintenance.

For most of the things I'll stick to stock parts, pricey or not. However my query is regarding front brake pads if anyone has recently bought them and what's the price. I bought it last at approximately 2100 and inquired with local ASC recently to find the price is still same. I'm tempted to try EBC sintered ones for 3300 instead of these

                                Any thoughts?
