I have ZMR for list 4+ years completed 50K k.m. and now planing for upgrade or change of bike. Hence short listed CBR 250 R as one of the option along with Thunderbird 350 (though I am more inclined towards CBR and wife towards Thunderbird).

Can some please let me how much is the maintenance cost of CBR 250 R per service and how does common parts (disk pads, chain kit, air filter, etc) cost, heard that it's too high with Honda bikes. I being a ZMR user has one of the highest maintenance cost in Hero stable.

I just love the new colour and graphics that CBR family comes with.

    Thanks in advance.
For some maintaining a sbk is fine and for some maintaining a quarter litre is a PITA.

So it is the perspective of the owner on how he defines more maintenance cost and less maintenance cost.

The following are the things which you will need at average intervals

    1. engine oil ---> every 5-6k kms - 1200 for 1.5 litre.
    2. Air filter is around 300 rs.
    3. Brake pads - if ridden sanely they can last for 10k kms atleast OEM brake pads will cost 1700-1800rs for front and rear. However there is a cheap solution available, pulsar 220's rear brake.pads are direct fit and cost around 200rs. So you save some.money there.
    4. Chain kit can easily last for 22-25k kms if maintained properly ( lubed and cleaned properly at proper intervals) it costs 2700rs.
    5. CBR 250 being a proven engine you would only need to spend money during sevice only. So that would cost around 3000-3500rs which includes engine oil and oil filter.

    Cheers,
    Sanjay

      km.
If u want to maintain the engine really properly I've heard its food to change the oil every 3000km, and chain lubing, should be done every 200-300 km.

If your bike has an old engine that runs on mineral, then changing oils every 2k km is good. If the ride is through heavy traffic, then the duration would reduce to 1.5k km. CBR has a modern engine with superlative tech and it runs on fully synth oil from factory. Replacing it before 5k km unless the engine is burning oil is waste of money.

What is the most trusted headlight bulb for CBR250's ? I don't want to modify the headlight assembly in anyway i just want to replace the bulb only.

I believe a simple search in the forum would show a lotta answers for your question.

There are many bulbs in Philips and Osram that can meet your requirement. It depends on your choice for Temp rating(white/yellow light). Please go through the forum as it has already been discussed in detail. No offense though.

Antan shank- the cbr250r is quite cheap to maintain, if you ride sanely, and are willing to put in some physical work to keep the bike healthy.

Lubing chain - Motul is the best, I've heard, but I use sae 90 gear oil every 300 kms. My chain has done 22700 kms and still has 1/4life left in it.

Engine oil : Honda oil costs 1500, lasts for 6k. I use castrol 15w 40 Semi Synth, cost 800 for 2l no problems, except loss of some smoothness.

Petrol: Higher octane makes the engine smoother, but affects mileage on one test I did. Normal petrol is just fine for the cbr250.

Brake pads last how you use them. My rear brakes still got bite after 22k kms, front pads changed at 18k.

My riding style depends on the traffic, once a month I take it to the highway and let her loose, changing gears at redline. I've had no shim or cam chain problems, just a leaky front fork seal which cost below 800.

As someone already suggested you for Philips or Osram. Just to put some light here, recently I have changed my bulbs to Philips Extreme Vision 130% from stock bulb. Its lumens 3700 and better than stock. But not too bright, if you want to have complete white light you should go for Philips Diamond Vision. But again these bulbs will lumen max 4000-4500K.

If you want more lights on the roads answer is HID. I just spoke to someone and he said Osram HID costs close to 3500 and there won't be any pressure on the battery and that lumens 6000K.

But I will have to warn you though if you are coming from the ZMR, it would feel like a smoother and more powerful ZMR with ABS, I suggest that you test ride it and/or look at other options- say Mahindra Mojo or if budget permits, the Kawasaki or Benelli.

I am 5.7 and have my mind on the CBR 250R ABS, would I be able to manage it? I have been riding for the past 10 years and have been riding the Karizma R for the last 3 years. Please do advise.. Thanks

Hi all, would also like to know whether it makes sense buying the CBR 250R at this point? Is it outdated when compared to newer bikes like Pulsar RS200 and The RC 390 etc? I am looking forward to a smooth ride with the best upright seating position. I also prefer something with ABS, hence had shortlisted this one along with the RS200! Hope the CBR250 would receive parts & service at least for the next 5 years. I am from Mumbai & have heard that at times getting spares can be an issue and maintaining this bike is actually an expensive affair! Is that true? Also read articles that the new graphics are just to clear old stock which haven't been selling well off late due to increased competition. Purchase would be imminent! Advise would really be helpful! Thanks

                      I am 5.8 and I own a CBR 2015R STD 2012 Tri-color, no issues in managing it.

If you are focusing on Engine refinement then CBR 2015R is better of the three. Also, you can cruise with 3 digits all day long.
In terms of power it is no match for RC 390 but it is better than RS200 at any given day.

Service: so far never face any issues like unavailability of parts.

2015R? I guess you meant the 250R! Thanks for the feedback, is it like the disk pads wear off every 3-4K KMS? To me it sounds untrue, but some owners said that to me!

                          Thanks for the correction.

My rear disk pads wear off after 6K KMS.

6K KMS! Isn't that quite early or is normal or the way you ride?

Depends on how hard you use the brake. My brake pads(rear) had lasted long enough for 20k kms.. Front Brake pads usually wear out more than the rear, say 12-14k kms, as I use it frequently.

Sounds fine to me. As long as spares are available for the bike in Mumbai and it doesn't dampen my servicing programming, I am happy to go in for it...
