The basic version of CBR is not wayy too expensive and fits my budget.

I have posted this query in r15 thread too.

    Your honest opinion is appreciated
I had the same doubts back in 2012. Always go for the most powerful bike you can afford, other things being equal You will not regret it.

Besides, the service cost of both the bikes are similar, AFAIK.

Guys I'd like to know if its advisable to change the front lights? Low beam is very underwhelming, I thought I'd go for LED or something but that would drain my battery faster? And how long should a battery last ? Also guys my rear is a 140/60 section, I want to know if it would affect my rim shape?

Last month I rode a 660 kms in 13 hours, 400 kms of which I spent riding above 120 kmph. But I never felt tired while riding at those speeds.

Is there anybody else who does not feel any wind blast on the cbr250? Is this due to my short height?
I would say this depends on the riding condition. I have sometimes felt the wind blast around lower chest area and sometimes around shoulder area. Since the wind blast is not uncomfortable for me, i have decided against going for aftet market wind screen.

I have a query of my own now,

As you might me aware that my air filter got wet in the recent chennai rains, and due to un availability i have now replaced the stock filter with a foam+oil filter in the stock place and another foam in the air filter intake near the battery. This setup will be there till i get hold of the stock air filter. I feel that my bike breaths better and higher rpm's are attained much easier now.

My doubt is, whether the current temporary setup is filtering enough to supply clean air to the engine??

How can i make sure that no major damage is made to the engine till i get hold of new filter, which i except to be available by second week of January.

Getting an air-filter is such a big task? Always the case?

I don't live in heart of chennai, so i have limited service centers which stocks CBR 250's spares. I am currently in a situation where i cannot travel into the city to buy air filter alone. Hence this scenario, add to that its an year end plus recent rains, the stocks got cleared faster...

More dust in the engine would make the oil dirtier. Honda manual says service more frequently in dusty conditions, so to be safe change your engine oil s bit earlier too. I personally run the vehicle with the filter cover off, for the past 2k kms. There is no need for overkill like changing oil every 3k kms. The engine is a gem, and will last long after some other parts wear off. Just follow the manual.

When I bought this bike, I got so many advice from people : stick to 4k rpm in running in; Honda oil sucks, change oil after 150kms else evil metal particles will annihilate your engine.

However when riding I forgot those words, and had fun: top speed run b4 first service -136 kmph, rpms upto 8k, and changed my oil at 996 kms.

Till date, I have had no engine problems, no loss of mileage or pickup. I realised that people sometimes blindly follow what others say, without testing it. An engineer himself assured me that my engine would be screwed if I go above 4k rpm during run in, a myth I demolished by later doing a mileage test and getting 49.8 kmpl on the cbr250.

If you read this thread, you will find people using Shell/Motul and claiming it is the best, and changing their oil at 4k or 2.5k because the engine seems rough. They are purists.

Then you have guys like me who use this bike to buy veggies and milk, and use car shampoo to clean it. I use castrol ss just to find the difference in engine oils. Now the typical Honda purring is gone. It sounds instead, like someone had inserted a very hot object inside said cats nether regions. Little kids stop their squeals, and buses give way to me once the needle reaches 4k rpm. Good enough for me. The cbr250 is s versatile vehicle, fit for noobs like me and experienced riders alike.

Few updates on the issues I had :

Horn going weak : There are 2 horns on the bike manufactured post 2013, one is high and one is low, the clip on the low horn was broken and was attached to the horn wire with very minor contact, hence the horn was getting low. brought the OEM horn cost rs 197 and everything is in place now.

cool. i was aware of the diffrent horn setup however did not think in that direction. thanks for the headsup..

Engine feeling restricted : I do not know if I am thinking too much on this, when I fill the tank from Shell Pune(v-power) the engine behaves like it is restricted and when I went to Mumbai on Friday and filled the tank there with normal petrol from BPCL and the engine behaves normally, no restriction thing here. I suspect high octane fuel (v-power) causing this. GURUs your opinions here. Although we are aware that higher octane does not give any advantages. I just fill one full tank of premium fuel once a month so that things are a bit clean inside.

can be multiple things.. fuel quality , air quality and even temperature.... however try diffrent bunk locally.
change fuel filter if not changed and 20k+ done..

ECU cutting off while blipping the throttle : Will get it serviced in the next oil change in January '16.

can be low level clogged injector.. use system-G regularly you might see some improvement.

Coneset : Finally got it replaced completely, the part which was installed is marked as made in japan(1600rs) and those conset differ from the ones manufactured in India(1100rs) by SKF. hope to see good results with the Japanese make. both Japanese and Indian make differ a lot.

you mean the SKF bearing you purchased locally says "made in japan ". if yes buy another 2 sets and ship to me asap... please

Still hunting for tapered bearings from SKF so that budget junta can take advantages of it including me as all balls are way too expensive.

those "made in japan" ones are just fine man. dont bother.. with tapered .. trust me...

                      Cheers,
                      Sanjay

each add-on accessory sold in market is not always useful.. sometimes it can be snake oil tooo. i am 5.11 and for highway cruising at 110-120 it works just fine if you have a good riding jacket...

cbr is a very good mile muncher.. every single cylinder single will have its own share of vibes however CBR is pretty smooth by itself..
if you have budget CBR is a no brainer..

                      upgrade path :
stage 1 : go for either Osram Night Breaker Plus else Philips extreme vision
stage 2: HID + projector ( chinese ones are crap either morimoto else Hella g3 or better) either way 15k +-...
Stage 3 : LED ( with proper low and high beam - cyclops 4000 lumen - bulb costs 5k + shipping) i use this and happy with it. direct OEM replacement.
LED is always low wattage and will never drain battery however HID on other side will hog more battery is you are riding heavy traffic most times.

most people will ask now why stage 2 is HID and stage 3 is LED.
pretty simple. LED is the future. runs cooler , sucks fraction of power compared to HID , no startup delays , double the lumen 1800 vs 4000 and reliability.

and honda oil really sucks mate. .it just dies at 3000 km take bout 500 km more sometimes. there are far better and superior oils available.

Thanks for the offer, I will make use of it in future when situation arises. For now I have got the air filter from the retail shop where I have ordered long back.

And Yes CBR Engine is build really good. I guess only Argee managed to crack it .

Coming to Honda engine oil, I guess for normal commuting the oil lasts till the next scheduled change(atleast for me). But for regular highway ride or touring what you said will hold true. I have been thinking to shift from Honda oil to the well praised Shell Ultra for my beast, and the has came now. My next service includes the below changes

                              1. Engine oil change (Shell Ultra)
                              2. Chain Sprocket change
                              3. Throttle cable(both A and B)
                              4. Clutch cable
                              5. any other consumables

Yes. The Indian make is from SKF. No clue about the Japanese make.
