How it feels.
Owning a CBR250r is like having a willing wild-child in your garage, pass it by to pick up a spanner and it taunts you for letting go, for heading out. For just pure, if i may 'flying' because once succumbed, which i did after running it in, its only become a bigger addiction. Sitting in position riding, vision of the road between the rear view mirrors, the way the center of gravity rests low, the willing throttle even at 120 kph, the hum especially at higher rpms sounds exactly like sitting in a classic single seater propeller aircraft with the gloves and earmuffs on, slight throttle changes making that slight difference ever so sensitive. Above all that, this is the first time I've owned a bike with six gears and the joy of knowing you have another gear to go is just indescribable. Also, i find the power band of this engine incredible, for a short stroke to deliver that much low end torque is superb, feels like a bloody bullet sometimes, the second gear can take off with ease from complete standstill.
So yesterday, I found myself loitering in the garage at 12 noon when I found her winking at me for a ride, you know how it is, so I packed the essential in a backpack, wore the riding and took off from Bangalore towards Tumkur. Knew that the pune road was good so I could push it. I headed off doing good distance, didnt bother looking at the milestones even when I was aware of the bike's ability to crunch miles. My riding style normally would be more like cruising at 80-90kph but this one has the ability to influence my right arm to slowly and unconsciously increase the rpm, before i know it, there's that aircraft propeller humm and flying the roads at about 120kph and the bike still has loads of rpm to take. By about 4pm i chose a sweet spot on the shoulder road under the tree to drown a bottle of water (re hydration is important and essential), realised I was near Davangere and decided to head back. One thing i try and avoid in my trips is an up-down so at Chitradurga on my way back i decided to go circular, so I took a right towards Shimoga. Five mins of riding on a normal 2 lane road through the countryside and the love I have for this machine triples. If its magic on the freeway, its utter unworldy with the curvy traditional style roads. And one very important thing i need to mention and give my appreciation to are the roads in that side of Karnataka, nice smooth surface on traditional NHs, no constant road humps to hinder flow and hence less of road damage due to braking stress near the humps. The bike loves the curvy roads has ample power across the whole rpm band and the gears to make it to your liking, it has the balance and seating position that keeps you comfortable and alive. Took a second break on a sub road going to god knows where, had my quiet moment while also admiring the bike
which is where I took this pic from my phone before it got dark (attached). After that I decided to head straight back taking the peripheral road through Shimoga - Badravati - Arsikere - Tiptur - Tumkur and back home at about midnight for a very needed Dinner. Riding after daylight is something that i normally again avoid but sometimes I am guilty of going crazy like this especially with our modern day 'no time to do anything work work work world'. The roads were brilliant, good surface throughout, in fact the GQ has more maintenance/upgrade diversions than the old school NHs.
Loved the ride and couldnt help sharing.
Cheers all.
Post Script - Scratches on the muffler guard

Handle bar vibrations may be due to defective Shims... If your footpeg vibrations are gone then please let me know too and please ask the mechanic what was causing it...Originally posted by Rony View PostI have had my share of issues with the ASC here and can understand what you mean. But I can't live with my hands getting numb after every ride. This is not expected out of a premium bike like ours. Need to resolve this issue somehow. Can't we contact HONDA engineers directly ?
And i dont think so that we can talk directly to HONDA engineers..as they don't care about aftersales review or so called customer's review..I respect the threat.

The CBR performed great. I was able to maintain 120 -130 speeds on the NH4 for great stretches and got aroud 30 -31 kmpl for the same...
In return trip maintained 80 -90 trough out the NH4 and seemed she was giving around 37 + kmpl.
One funny characteristic of the bike was that it had a severe problem of handle bars vibrations which seemed to disappeared for the remaining trip after the bike had done 400kms.. but again appeared the next day when the engine was cold .
..also during the lasts 300 kms of the return trip (bike already done 400 for that day) there were no vibrations from the handle bars but.... there was a funny sound from the engine area when u were accelerating like there was a loose metal piece or similar to a metallic "Nut" whirling in a glass....its hard to describe ..
..
Q anybody had a similar problem ?? What could it be ??
damn... i was about to post the same.. did a 400 km trip yesterday and exact same sound of from the engine area.. of " nut" vibrating in and around.. and there is a huge slack in the chain... just 2.5k on odo.."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

You can always use the edit button you know instead of posting multiple back to back replies. Speaking of slack, have you never adjusted ur chain in the course of the 2.5k coverage?
For those of you with footpeg problems, the issue lies with the ASC. They do not use a torque wrench to tighten bolts to manufacture specific torque and instead resort to the age old technique of "Muscle power" to tighten it with a spanner as much as possible. If Shims are not the issues then it must be the nuts n bolts that arent tightened to specs as they should be.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

i sure will be using the same going ahead..
thanks for the pointer..
for the slack.. its been adjusted thrice and the chain was cleaned and lubed and adjusted before the trip.. after 490 km odd.. the chain is very loose and i guess its hitting somewhere and making the metal clinging noise...
as far as the ASC i have been there and never seen them usi ng torque wrench on anything. i got my bike fixed while standing in the bay area.. next to the ride and never figured out any torque wrench all i could see were the age old same forged metal wrenches of diffrent sizes..
it would be helpful if anyone can post the torque figures needed for the commom nuts and bolts."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

Speedo not working
Hello guys,
After 14 months of flawless performance, my CBR has developed a fault.
I was on a month's annual leave for the Leh ride and returned to Rajkot on 08 Jul. The bike had been under covers during this period, in a safe environment. There was no chance of anybody fiddling with it.
When I switched on the ignition, the standard checks went thru properly - the FI light lighting up, the speedo windinging down from 188 to zero, all proper. The bike started on the first try without a glitch. But when I started riding away, the speedo did not spool up to indicate the speed. Also, the odo and trip seemed to be slaved to the speedo as these two indicators too did not work. Everything else is working - the clock, the RPM gauge, the fuel gauge and the temp gauge.
The bateery seems fine as all battery related functions are fine - the horn, indicators, brake lights, main lamp (high and low both) and the starter switch.
My friendly neighborhood ASC chap is away due to a personal issue so has not checked the bike yet.
No wires etc seem to be out of place, everything is normal.
Any ideas??
