Hey guys, I had to do PDI for my CBR which is going to be delivered tomorrow. One thing I noticed was the temperature gauge was showing no bars even when I started the engine. Is this normal? Is it supposed to display bars only after engine warms up a bit or so??

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Yes, the engine needs to warm up for the display to show it. But all 3 bars will come up at the max by 2-3 mins.Originally posted by sanjaynk15 View PostHey guys, I had to do PDI for my CBR which is going to be delivered tomorrow. For ex. I will usually start the engine, then put on the helmet and both the gloves and the first bar will be displayed when I mount the bike.

Okay buddy! So no problem with the connections most probably. I'll check it once tomorrow! ThanksOriginally posted by Iam_Hoodi_CBR View PostYes, the engine needs to warm up for the display to show it. But all 3 bars will come up at the max by 2-3 mins.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
The temperature gauge would show no bars when the engine is cold, only after the engine is slowly warming up, you'll see the display increase the bars from 1 2 and 3. Absolutely normal. What you have to worry is riding the bike for 30 mins and the temp shows no bars or all three bars blink, that's when you have problem.Originally posted by sanjaynk15 View PostHey guys, I had to do PDI for my CBR which is going to be delivered tomorrow. Some bikes have this as a design feature of running the fan even with both the kill switch and ignition turned off, say for a max of one to two minutes, max, no more than that. If the fan continuously operates each and every time you stop, you might have a thermostat problem and or the thermostat switch. Also, check for wiring. Fan stays on with the kill switch off, and when ignition is on, with the ignition switch off, the fan turns off.Originally posted by Iam_Hoodi_CBR View PostHi Guys,
Although I started the bike and I found no issues anywhere else except the fan issue, so I guess it should be rideable till its next ASC visit.

What'd I'd like to ask is how did you get back home after work? How did the bike behave?

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
1. Yeah i know he should have got the OEM brakepads but as i said before he got no idea about servicing and stuff, and the local mechanic recommended him to use that so he did [emoji43].Originally posted by AK3D View Post1) Why use aftermarket brake pads? If one is willing to spend 1L+ for a bike, why does the extra 2K matter (which might be a life saver)
2) If you read the thread, you will find the temperature bar goes to 3 bars and stays there for the CBR250R. You need to bother about high temperature only if it goes above that.
IF the ambient weather is hotter, you'll feel more engine heat, simple fact.
Finally, you should only use genuine Honda blue Type 2 coolant as other coolants might have materials that damage the radiator seals in the long term. Also, while replacing the coolant, it is imperative to do it in the proper manner i.e. top up the radiator, turn on the bike for a minute to let it circulate, and then top up the lower reserve tank up to the "Upper" level indicator.
2. Yes you're right for cbr it doesn't go above 3 points and if it does it has some problem like fan not working or something like that. But the point is the bike gets to that point very quickly and within a few mins of riding even on empty roads the fan starts up, which doesn't happen on my cbr unless theres bumper to bumper traffic.
About the coolant we used motul ( the yellow color) one which i use in my bike too and it seems to do its job pretty well i say.
Problem is that is gets hot very quickly and the fan gets on and stays on for sometime. I would say even ktm 390s fan gets on a little after his CBR [emoji28]. So is there any other thing we should be looking to change ?
Someone told me its heating because of weak clutch plates, is it true ? ( though the clutch is no so weak, it can last for more than 5k kms )

Re: Honda CBR 250R
VJ am sure that for CBR 250, the fan will usually stop when the engine kill switch is off. At least that is how mine was behaving so far.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Post....... Now when i came back to the bike after 7 odd hrs, i was expecting this issue to be vanished like it never happened. But the moment i connected the negative terminal with the battery, the fan started again in full speed. And i know that i can do nothing other than wait till i reach ASC.
The jugaad plan,
With the fan running all the time, i started the bike and rode normally like i do always(70-90kmph for 8 odd kms and 30-50 for remaining 3 odd kms). Bike was literally the same as earlier, but fan was continuously running throughout the ride back home. I made some small purchase from the automobile shop on the way,
1. 2 way toggle switch
2. 1 meter of 4mm wire(based on the knowledge of the shop owner)
Even during the purchase, the fan was running while the key was in my pocket
.
Once returned home i immediately started to work on the bike, unfortunately misplaced the bike key due to the urgency
and also found that the insulation tape is missing. So the fan was running for some half an hour while i was searching the misplaced items.
I actually used the spare bike key to start the work in the below process
- Remove the negative terminal.
- Connect the switch in between the negative terminal of the battery with 4mm wire and connect the other end of the 2 way switch to the return wire of the bike.
When i checked the electrical items like lights, instrument console and fuel pump priming with the new connection and everything was working as usual. So when i pressed the started i heard that engine has started but the 4mm wire could not withstand the starting current. But none the less the bike was running with this switch in place.
To make some precautionary measures, i used one of the heavy duty(8sqmm) house hold wire and replaced the 4mm automobile wire for the time being. The setup is now complete and now my bike have 2 ignition switch.
Current connection setup for switching off the fan
2 way switch is positioned under the pillion seat, currently mounted on the helmet strap loop
The main downside is that i need to remove the pillion seat every time i need to use the bike and park it stationary for more time. And also the time will re-set every time i switch off the 2 way switch. Also i guess the ECU will be kind of reset and will start collecting data again based on my ride, please correct me if am wrong here.
Experts do comment whether i can continue with the current setup until i visit ASC by next week??

Re: Honda CBR 250R
The reasoning behind that thought, I experienced the same with my bike, where the fan was running, toggled the kill switch off and the fan, still, was running full on, turned off automatically in a minute or so. But nothing more than a couple of seconds or nothing close a minute. Good day, bad day, sad day, any day, turning the ignition kills everything.Originally posted by Iam_Hoodi_CBR View PostVJ am sure that for CBR 250, the fan will usually stop when the engine kill switch is off. Now, coming to your setup, this is a feasible one, not at all a bad idea. But yes, it resets the ECU, every time you toggle that switch off. What's to be taken into account is the fan's ability to keep spinning full on, every time, this would in fact strain the cooling fan to an extent. If you have starting issues, you can use thicker gauge wires from the return end, that would make the bike overall feel better since it aids completing the ground better. But for now, I think this is a feasible stop-gap solution.
But again as a caution, the sooner this is done, the better you're off trouble.
