    Hi Sanjay,

Got the valve clearance checked last Saturday and were within normal limits. No score marks on lobes of camshafts. No sign of any wear and tear. But that chik chik sound is still there.

A little play in timing chain without CCT is acceptable. To check timing chain, remove CCT. Try to insert it back without stopper tool with fully released shaft. If it gets inserted, timing chain is faulty. Hopefully, it would not go beyond the shaft.

2011 CBRs have common phenomenon like these! Mine is November/2011. What's your manufacturing month and year?

I faced a very peculiar issue today with my CBR.

I in fact had to pinch me to check if this is real or not, the following are the things I did exactly from yesterday night.

      1. Yesterday I had a ride of around 35-40 kms with 2 stops, and the bike behaved normally.
      2. Night(around 1 am) I used the bike for drop a friend to his home which is a 2kms ride up and down. Did not observe weather the fan kicked in or not.
      3. Today morning started around 11:30 am to office, stopped the bike in 750 meters for a juice break(fan did not kick in for sure).
      4. Had ridden for 5-6 Kms with pillion rider, then dropped him and continued to office riding single for 30+ kms(mostly with speeds around 70-90 Kmph in highway). Fan must have kicked in for sure but had not observed it closely.
      5. When I was about the part the bike in the multi-level parking in office, I observed that the fan is at full speed. As usual I used the engine kill switch to stop the engine(and fan too), but the fan was running continuously.
      6. I tried toggling the engine kill switch to on and off position couple of times to check if the fan is cut-off as usual, but it did not.
      7. I have turned the key to off position(and later to pulled the key out) and to my surprise the fan was still running. This is where I was not sure if am dreaming or not, but what ever I tried the fan was continuing to run.
      8. I finally removed the fuse of the fan from the fuse box, and finally the fan stopped completely.
      9. Then I removed the negative terminal from battery, replaced the fan fuse locked the bike and came to my work place.

I know I need to get it check at ASC, but I cannot do it today or even this week. Will definitely visit ASC by next week.

In that few minutes, I managed to observe that engine kill switch is functioning normally(except turning off the fan) like fuel pump priming, self starter button is not cranking when the switch is in kill position. And the ignition key is working normally(again except turning off the fan) like console showing its self check, lights/headlight switching on when the key is in on position.

Its been almost 6 hours since I left the bike with negative terminal of the battery disconnected. What are those things that you guys want me to check before I take the bike again(which is around 7:30 pm).

Although I started the bike and I found no issues anywhere else except the fan issue, so I guess it should be rideable till its next ASC visit.

      Ram
Called JSP Honda(Aminjikarai, Chennai), Booked the appointment on Wednesday. Rajesh is the CBR technician there, He suggested to keep the battery disconnected and suspected a faulty Relay of the radiator fan. Keeping fingers crossed until I Wednesday.

This means that the Radiator is connected always to the battery via a relay, irrespective of the ignition key status. This looks like either the cooling of the engine is given utmost importance or they forgot to include the connection via ignition switch.

This triggers another question to me, How come that about 95% of the time the fan is switched off when we kill the engine via Engine kill switch if the fan is connected directly to the battery

Will update you guys after the service.

      Ram.

I am also facing the same problem since years.. Sick of it now. Changed cct thrice. Shim job done once. Changed rocker arm
But it only worsened the noise. I think they figured out wrong size of shim.

I made several follow ups with HMSI but nothing worked out for me.

I have also previously posted my problems to discuss with other members. But nothing helped.

        Mine is October 2011 model.

Although my personal experience says its timing chain noise. But svc guys fail to acknowledge it and say this is normal with every 250

Recently i got clutch cover removed for changing gasket due to oil leakage so i noticed this broken timing chain guide.

Could this be the silly reason for that silly noise.

Although poor svc guy said its not broken. Just an illusion.. [emoji23]

Cbr gurus plz throw some light on it
        Burn the rubber, they said
it would be fun, they said

          HI,
Congratulations on your purchase but be patient and should have done some analysis before buying second hand.
I told many people in the forum now also I'm telling when you are buying secondhand get the 2013 or above models (if money is not an object) as they have few spares which cost less.
Anyways nothing to worry 2011 model is almost same as 2016 and even mine is 2011.

          Coming to your answers

          1. Good Honda tankpad.
--> Got to local sticker shops save money ask them to use 3M material is possible.
          2. Bar end weights (good one's)
--> don't change the stock ones are functional any other bar ends may make the bike unstable.
          3. Frame sliders - if possible
--> Not required (in my opinion) the cost of good frame sliders is more than the side panels so there's no point of buying them in first place and if you buy cheap frame sliders they might damage the frame which is even worse.

          Regards,
          Mohan

Ha yes, I was about to post an update. I got the tank pads from a local shop so it's all good. I enquired in a few SVC but they said they dont have stocks now and don't get it very often. Thanks for the info.

Anyway the reason I went for this bike is due to the fact that it was suggested by the Honda SVC mech himself. He is the one who has serviced the bike from the beginning and since owner is not using it much (he had run 200km since the last 3 months [emoji15] ) he asked me to get it. Since the day I got it (Saturday 1pm) I have crossed 200km already.[emoji4]

            • Any feedback on Honda Shield roadside assistance?

              Hi all,

Just wanted to know if anyone here has any feedback on the Honda Shield roadside assistance program. Since the CBR is a FI bike, there is a higher probability that if something does go wrong, it may not be drivable or cannot be rectified by a local mechanic and hence Honda Shield may be a good idea.

              1. What is the cost for enrolling for road-side assitance for CBR 250R?
              2. Has anyone used it and if so, how is the feedback in terms of time it takes for them to respond, how do they tow the bike (e.g. safe and secure way to tow?)
              3. Do they only tow the bike to nearest service station, or will they take it to your choice of service station (which may not be nearest) as long as it is within 25kms radius?

Apart from Honda shield, are there other secure ways to tow the bike - the towing vehicles seen on the road seem more suited for cars and not really two-wheelers and hence the question.

It's a Rs100 tank pad, so it will have to do for now. Next week I might visit some other shop's, hopefully I'll be lucky.

Paid 1.10. The bike has run a grand total of 6k something in all four+years of being owned by the previous owner.

Can't fault him since he is like 55 something and said he was interested in biking but couldn't do it since his health not permitting. Bike has been used mostly for local, few km rides in a week. Bike is running good so far, if I have some problems I have a dependable forum and a good mech to work with.

Get it replaced ASAP. Lucky that its not the guide B which tensions the chain (tensioner side). It has not broken completely yet. It might be the reason of noise (loose chain). Let us know the outcome after replacing it. I will also check the same.
