I asked someone from the CBR 250r international group on FB and got a reference that Kothari wheels @ tilak road swargate is a decent one. I went there and spoke to the mech whose name is Aasif in his 40s so he might have quite a experience and pus he has told me that i can stay in the service bay when the shims will be changed. I am going tomorrow for the same.

I need to replace shims in my bike as there is a mild noise and since I am permanently transferred to pune and going to settle here, I need a decent svc for any kind of job here.

Whats up with bike gurus in kothrud, are they good with big bikes or are only smart in small bikes, because shim change is not a easy thing, as we need to have proper readings n all.

I would like to meet fellow CBR owners from pune as well as i am a part of pune now!!

Cheers,

Wtf!!!! There is no body part changes as well mechanical changes in the 2012 or the 2013 or the 2014 or the 2015 or the 2016 models.

The only changes so far are the various color schemes and the ecu remap.

Cheers,

Some updates on the annoying issue which I was facing since couple of months.

I was whining a lot on the shim/cam chain/cct noise harassing me a lot. I got the cct replaced and also did the DIY suggested by sman999 but the harassment continued.

I went to vihan honda in the month of Feb and got the head opened to check the valve clearances. I was myself present there when the readings were taken, the mech ( abdul) said all is well with the shims and thoda bohot.noise toh rahega hi!!! I took his words nicely and thought I am being paranoid about small small noise.

Then I came to pune as I work here, daily commuting was going on and the noise is still there and it only worsened when I use to get stuck in traffic. The stitching noise was very much and it increased day by day.

I kept on asking many people to point me to a competent svc who should help me in gettting the problem solved but no luck. I asked someone from the cbr250r international group on FB and got the reference of kothari wheels@tilak road near swargate, Pune.

I booked the appointment and requested the service manager to allow me in the service bay to which he agreed very nicely.

The next day I went early by 6 am to my Friends place who stays near by to the SVC so that the bike will cool down and then the mech will get proper readings and the issue will be resolved. Within 4 hours the bike was cool enough and then went there, created the job card and the mech (aasif) took the bike to the 3rd floor where the service will be performed. I had asked him to check other things too. So that the bike will further cool down. By 11 am the head was opened and we took the readings and to my shock the readings on the exhaust valves were showing clearance of 35mm, ideally it should be 27mm and for the inlet it was showing 33mm ideally it should be 16mm. The reading was done and this mech was literally doing the calculations in his notebook to get the proper shim from the parts store. I felt nice as I never saw a mech doing calculations literally on a notebook. Once we ordered the shims, we checked wether the cct is damaged or not, it was not damaged and it was working fine.

Then we came to the camshafts now this could be the real culprit in screwing up the bike's shims. The exhaust and the inlet cam has to be alligned properly to get the correct timing, in my case the alignment was not proper. All this screwup, I give credit to (abdul) from vihaan honda who @14k kms changed the shim but never bothered to check the alingment of both the camshafts. Wether he did it on purpose or it was a human error, I am not going to vihaan honda again.

As the timing was set incorrect due to misaligned camshafts, my shims gave up soon and if I hadn't got it checked soon, my timing chain would have scrwed up too.

The shims came to us and with many permutations and combinations we got the exact clearance for the exhaust valve which is 27 and for the inlet we had to compromise a bit as the exact shims size were not available so the inlet clearance is at 18mm. When I asked the mech about keeping +2mm more in the inlet valves, he said +/- 2mm chalta hai sir, taking his words coming from an angel who pointed out the mistakes from vihaan honda I happily agreed and fitted the head back and rest of the body parts and now comes the moment of truth I fired the engine and I was smiling a lot why, because the noise was gone and the firing was very healthy as expected from a well maintened CBR. I payed the bill and tipped the mech as well for his awesome job.

I rode towards home and it was pure bliss to ride those 20 odd kms, no noise whatsoever. I am.a happy bunny now

Now for the guys who are looking for a decent SVC in PUNE to get their CBRs serviced be it small or big service. You can go to kothari wheels@tilak road, the people there are co-operative and the mechanic is very patient enough to get things resolved. I can vouch for the mech as well as the service personnel.

Thanks to all people who listened to my ranting and thanks to all who pointed me to the right place and thanks to the mech.

Cheers,
Sanjay

Good to know Sanjay. It's kind of mental relief.

If cam shafts were misaligned (not on the correct positions as shown in attached pictures), bad readings on valve clearance were expected as you have. Good that you found someone who did it perfectly.

Cheers!

Indeed you are right arvind bhai, the pic says it all. The bike is still has a gem of a engine but it is only screwed up by ignorant and uneducated mechanics at SVC.

As for things are concerned, I have learnt few new things yesterday when my bike was getting fixed.

Cheers,

Check for the actual reason why the bike is stalling at default settings?

Mostly due to choked air filter or injector.

Not really. If its choked injector, it would stall at all times; my bike just stalls randomly, when the clutch is pulled in, usually while waiting in traffic. My air filter is clean, and I used the injector cleaner last week. I feel no difference after one tank full.

Can anyone point me out to where the Idle air control valve is?

Nice to know that you got rid of that annoying noise.

I am exactly in same situation as you were.
And i nearly had lost the battle since svc here in my city is very pathetic. They just try to create a more mess for me.

Last time when my shims were checked it had clearance of 30 mm on exhaust side and that guy said "itta chalta hai".

Then their senior most mechanic came and said "ap srf apni gaadi khrab krre h bar bar khulwa kar. Cbr ki awaz hi aisi h"

Multiple visits to svc. Numerous complaints to HMSI lead me nowhere and i thought that either i get rid of this vehicle or make myself more used to that sound.

But after reading your post my lost confidence has returned that this problem can be rectified.

Thanks for sharing your experience buddy.
I hope to get similar results once my bike is thoroughly checked.
