In case, you don't get only the chain from the svc, you can try getting an aftermarket chain. Though, that can be an expensive alternative.

Chain and sprockets are always supposed to be changed as a pair.
New chain with old sprockets will be rough match as the chain and sprockets wear against each other giving a smooth noise free motion.

Chain can last as long as 30k km if lubricated every 500 kms or so.

Very correct

Not just with lubing, but also keeping the bike under control, say under 80 Kmph religiously; if the bike is kept under control, even the lubing interval (with Motul) can last more than 1500 Km

There lies the problem. Its too difficult to keep it below 80kmph [emoji12]

Exactly the point; that's why I said, on an average, 18000 Km should be good enough. But regular lubing of the chain will CERTAINLY improve upon the long life of chain. I got my first chain set worn out around 10000 Km & that was because I lubed at Jaipur & the next time I'm lubing was at Chennai!! A whooping 2500+ Km the damn chain wasn't lubed even once & I rode with the chain squeaking noise all the way from Satara to Madras. By the time I reached Tumkur the chain was super elongated; after coming to Madras even when the chain was fully tightened, there was more than 25mm play.

The chain on my RTR was completely worn by 13xxx kms as it was lubricated only during servicing.

By contrast, CBR chain is at 30xxx kms with regular lubrication by EP 140 grade gear oil (no cleaning).

Sir, you have to do such tests based on AVERAGE. Reason is because every ride, every trip, every product, every experience & every learning is unique. What I've quoted as 18000 as standard is after changing 5-6 set of sprockets.

Anybody using any aftermarket Brake/Clutch levers for the ABS models
Most of the parts available are for non- Abs
I want something like this.

Yes, I'm yet to put some serious miles on my bike.

Just kidding. I've learnt a lot through this forum, and it's all because members selflessly share and update and inquire. That's what keeps the proverbial flame of knowledge burning.

aargee: Saar, i know this is a huge request by a long shot but would love to hear about your experience so far with your noble steed at 81,000+ kms in terms of:

* Any preventive maintenance that has been carried out with the vehicle.
* Any issues that you witnessed and how it was addressed?
* How has been your experience with the SVC locally?
* What is the current scenario of availability of spares in your locality?
* Your stint with tire changes/combinations besides "the wrath of Contigos" and the experience so far; especially would be helpful for the budget conscious tourers.

I know you have already covered vast amounts of data on other forums but for the sake of knowledge sharing; would request that you do share a comprehensive post whenever time permits for us little riders waiting on the other side of this planet

Yes, always I've been doing preventive maintenance, so that my CPR doesn't strand on the road

Super fantastic so far; JSP Honda has been extremely cooperative with whatever I ask

If you mean spares shortages, then the max I've to wait is for like a week to 10 days before which I get them. I once said, JSP Honda & Didar Motors in Chennai are the people who have well trained technicians & have large inventory on spares & they've been proving it until today

I will never use Contigo even if they were offered for free; currently I'm testing 140/70-17 Radial from MRF for last 13000+ Km, so I'm still learning about that tire & yet to arrive at any conclusion. Front, I will never ever change from MRF 110/70-17 Radial (4th set now) as it has always lasted for 18000 Km before cracking or getting worn out. Michelin is way too expensive & I hear there're 2 models in Michelin, Made in India & Thailand. Thailands are good one, obviously comes with a high price tag; Indian make is not as bad as Conti, but does a decent job is what I hear. But for that kind of price & the kind of use I do (no racing, just street use & touring), I think its not worth spending so much money, because, frankly I don't know what kind of "GRIP" people keep talking all over. For me, Dunlop & MRF does a good job (this is about rear tire I'm talking about)
