    [QUOTE=New guy;1388849]The piston is in a bad shape though./QUOTE]

Better replace then and play longer. It's pain to get such repairs done on CBR - time consuming and unavailability of spares.

Yes, I was trying to avoid the block and was keen only on replacing the piston and liner.

But these parts work together as a system and replacing one while other is nearing end of life will only put undue strain on the new parts. Also svc does not sell such parts individually but in kits.

Better to bear higher cost at one go rather than repeated frequent visits for repairs.

TBH it is not required. Just stick to the stock spec or go for the Shell direct substitute oil. No need to jump oil weights.

            Hi guys,

I purchased a preowned CBR250R last year. The seller had just serviced the bike. I have completed 5800kms since then. I gave my bike for service yesterday (Total 36,000 kms completed).

The service centre guys replaced engine oil, brake pads, fork oil and clutch cable.

Brake oil, Engine oil filter and air filters were not replaced. According to the manual they need to be replaced every 6,000 km. Is this important? The service centre guys said they look good and don't need to be replaced.

Btw, is there any tutorials for newbies like me to learn about bike maintenance?

            Thanks!

Air filter need not be replaced every-time but they need to be cleaned every-time taken in for a service.
Engine oil MUST BE REPLACED every-time. No matter what the svc guys says, just get them to replace it. It is for the sake of keeping your engine smooth and operating at the most efficient way.
Brake fluid needs to be replaced only based on the periodic interval as stated in the manual or if the fluid appears to get gunky or if braking lever feel is getting wooden or spongy.

Youtube is a good start, type in what aspect of bike maintenance you are looking to learn and you'll find plenty of tutorial videos or DIY videos to learn from. Bike specific content is also easily available.

Thx buddy but the problem happened b'coz of the fuel pump. Fuel pump's motor was replaced n the problem was solved. I mentioned it in later comments.
Btw my bike never refused to start after washing. This is the first time, I'm hearing such thing.

Brake oil is to be replaced every time you change your brake pads. Older brake fluids not only heat up soon, but induce negative braking experience, and old brake fluids degrade and change color. Replacing brake fluid whenever the pads are replaced is a good practice. Secondly, oil filters can be used a max of one time, that is using an oil filter that is new for two consecutive oil changes maximum. Oil filter's primary duty is to filter the dirt from the engine oil, so replacing it every oil change is key ensuring a longer engine life. Same goes the air filter. For the CBR 250R it is recommended to replace the air filter rather than cleaning it, so it's better to replace the air filter at a set interval of 10k kms. Clean air filter not only helps engine get cleaner air, which in turn helps the engine perform better. Replacing the essentials will help be the bike be at peak shape!

                  Enjoy the bike!

                  Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

IMO brake oil isn't necessarily to be replaced at every pad change interval. In fact they easily last for a year or so. The only problem with brake fluid is it is hydrophilic in nature and over a certain period of time absorbs water and braking performance is affected i.e. mushy feeling when you hit the lever. Any DOT3 or 4 can easily last for 1 year. Just check reservoirs and top up if needed within 1 year period.

Absolutely true Arvind! But again, it's recommended to change fluids every pad replacement or 1 year or depending on the way the lever feels as you said. But, at least he'll get an idea where to start with.

Hi Friends, Need suggestions for my 2012 CBR250R !

                        1. I would like to install LED Indicators with flasher. Looking for quality indicators like KTM, Benelli etc. Could some one please help me with the details like URLs to buy the LED indicators, flashers, washers etc.? Also if possible instructions to install them. I'm also fine to try out with KTM/Dominar/Benelli stock LED indicators. Anybody tried and succeeded?

                        2. I would like to repaint the exhaust and its cover. They are the only parts which has some scratch on my bike. Rest all good, touchwood . Kindly let me know any good workshop in CHENNAI to repaint them in original Matt black and Silver color.

I keep doing minor cosmetic mods to by CBR to make it look good. So that I always feel fresh and unique with my bike in the crowd of KTMs, R15s and REs. LOL . Don't wanna change the bike anytime soon.

                        Appreciate any help!

6000kms is too long , I feel 3000-4000 is safer if you wanna extend the life of the engine. Service guys will tell u a lot of things. For me once I had knocking on my bike , and suspected something, immediately service guys said it might be major engine work, etc turns out it was water in the fuel or old fuel which I emptied and put 97 and bike is back to normal.

You can stick with KTM or generic LED flashers. The fitment is what matters, and I have seen some CBRs with KTM indicators, they do look sleek and neat. But they leave an ugly gap on the front fairing where the old indicators are affixed, you can also try LED indicators from Amazon. Make sure you get a good LED flasher relay, which is very importantm and it should do the job well. Next is pretty much installing the indicators to the frame with the right orientation. All these pretty much a local mechanic can do.

If you would like to paint it black/silver, any local painter can do it for you. Remove the exhaust shield, take it a decent painter and he'll do it for you. Matte or gloss, silver or black any color can be done.

                              Cheers!
