Well it seems CBR shouldn't be used with 20w50 oil. Had a good discussion on fb regarding 20w50 oil. Most of the guys suggesting 10w30 n 10w40 oil.
A guy's cbr got seized after the using 20w50 for 4000 kms.
I've same oil filled in my cbr few days ago n now I've to replace it with 10w40 oil.

Hi guys, so it’s been just 900 km with my preworshipped cbr and I’m quite happy with how the bike is performing.
I had two basic questions, I am required to go to hometown so cbr will not be running for a month or two, planning on disconnecting the positive terminal only and leave battery in bike (have done the earth wire mod and don’t want to loosen the negative terminal). I felt this should be adequate..if I’m wrong please tell me if I should do differently.

My bike has some rust formation inside the tank, discovered it only after I brought the bike 😩...the asc mech mentioned that cleaning the fuel filter should do...the svc executive recommended to change the tank itself ( under insurance) he mentioned that rust mixing with fuel can damage the engine head..I would be grateful if the gurus here could give some insights on what’s the best way forward.

The bike is quite old 2011 June...but run only 9k...

ps: am going through the thread page by page ...still some time to finish it...pls excuse if covered before. 🙂

      cheers

His bike wouldn't have seized coz of 20w50 grade but rather coz of the quality of oil he used and how long he dragged it with that oil without changing or topping up.
For CBR 250R though u can go for Motul 300V 15w50 for summers it works like a charm.

          Hello Geetesh!

Rust inside the tank is harmful any day! It keeps clogging the fuel filter, if the dirt gets past, it will harm the fuel pump. How bad is it? See if you can get the rust removal done. Auto painters they might be able to do it. There are two ways to it one is by using an acid and agitator and the other by electrolysis and rust proofing later.

Hi Sanjay, thanks for the inputs...will check the extent of rust and then take a call.
Btw is it possible to replace a rusted tank under insurance?

Does anyone have recommendations for an aftermarket ignition switch replacement? My 2015 non-abs CBR250r ignition switch has failed. I have bypassed it for now with a toggle switch, but I would like to replace the ignition to avoid issues when I sell the bike. I've had a couple of quotes for the OEM key set (ignition + fuel tank + seat lock), that was in the Rs 12k to Rs 15k range. Does anyone know of cheaper alternatives?

Has anyone tried the approx USD 25 options on aliexpress? Like https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001024701412.html or https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33037889255.html?

I too have bypassed my ignition switch and I guess thats somewhere affecting my battery. Yes you can try this on risk, if it works then voila you actually could pave way for other CBR owners on saving some money

To your first point, remove one of the terminals and you're set. Rusting is an issue with CBR fuel tank, in fact I did mention this just a couple of days back in another forum.

Check the intensity of the rust. If it's only near the fuel tank cap, you can empty the tank and use Coca Cola, works well to remove rust. Second method is using caustic soda in the tank which eliminates rust very well.

Thirdly, you can claim insurance not by stating rust but with physical damage to the fuel tank. Insurance won't cover rusting. Rust and failure of parts will be covered and changed under "warranty" from the manufacturer. Insurance doesn't have a say here.

Take action immediately when you see rust. They spread fast and spoil the tank quickly. If it's on the innards of the tank, it definitely warrants removal of tank a through clean.

                  Hope it helps!

                  Cheers!

If it's the lockset it costs 1300-1500 the 13-15k one you mentioning are the first lot of cbrs made in japan hence they are more expensive.

The CBR as far as I can remember wasn't manufactured in Japan. It was manufactured in Thailand, imported here, then the manufacturing process began here. Thailand had its significant chunk exporting to ASEAN countries and what not. Even India did import the bikes IIRC, but none were manufactured in Japan, though some parts were Japanese.

                        Cheers!

Are you sure the Rs 1,500 set you saw was an OEM set? Maybe it was one of the chinese copies I posted. I checked two svc centers & they both said it would be over Rs 12,000. It's > Rs 16,000 on https://safexbikes.com/productdetail...TS/201/JHCB005

I'm going to try AliExpress when shipping rates come back down to normal. They want USD 50 to ship it right now.

I've also been thinking of just replacing the ignition switch with a keyless ignition system (rfid fob), but they are just as expensive. I don't want to spend too much on this, this is my second bike & not used a lot. I will probably be selling it in a year or two.

AFAIK , the locksets of 2011 model costs above 11k. Later ones cost slightly lesser ie around 9k .

Mine is a 2011 one and was creating some issues an year ago after a rainy ride. At that time i enquired about it.

Anyway i lubed it, problem sorted partially. Then on the recommendation of svc guys i went to a roadside keymaker and he sorted the issues just by banging the lock and key itself. [emoji1324] [emoji1750]

Sometimes problems also occur due to worn out key. So you can try that as well.
                            Burn the rubber, they said
it would be fun, they said

As I wrote above mine 13 Repsol's lockset was quoted above 12k by SVC, which imo is just too much money and honestly I dont know even why its is so pricey. With current situation of CBR spares, I have decided to part ways with it in coming few months. I cant afford to keep it with no help from Honda.
Although selling it off is my last option, but I doesn't see any other way out.

Anyway, @ChasingDucksAndGeese : Do let us know once you order from AliExpress and how it goes.
