Query: My battery is almost 3.5 years old. Do you guys think it is time for a change? Startup still takes a single push of the starter. However the last time the bike was serviced (last December), the service mechanic advised changing it after doing an amperage test. Open circuit voltage (no-load) shows ~12.4v. Idle voltage is ~14v at 2500 RPM. Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
    advisable to change it.
the voltages you mentioned are only half the story. a load test will give proper information. the battery testing tool at the svc probably did this test.
do go ahead and change the battery.

Not disputing the advice, just curious. If it's still starting the bike, does it do any harm to the motorcycle to run it with that battery until the it fails? I've never changed a battery on any vehicle before a battery failure (usually, battery fails to start vehicle, battery shop says it's bad and needs to be replaced), have I been damaging my vehicles?

        Hi guys,

I am looking for a Led bulb for my cbr250r.

Is it worth going for Cyclops Led 10.0 ultra which cost 8k over Nighteye led which cost just 2400rs for a pair ?

valves clearances that are out of spec, especially on the tighter side will sap some performance out and also cause cold starting issues. correct clearances will provide the optimum compression and performance.
if its neglected too long, you might end up with more repairs.. which could have been avoided if the clearances were checked and set right at regular intervals.
I'm going to be checking, I have never ever opened the engine even once in its 64k km history. Just changed clutch set and packing a couple of times.

these modern bikes depend on electronics to function properly.. and that needs a stable source of voltage/current supply.
it is possible to damage certain components like the stator coil or RR if run it prolonged on a bad battery, and certain other sensors/electronics might act up weird.

on older simpler machines, its no big deal.. you could even run them without the battery

My 2013 Repsol CBR has been lying idle for a week or so straight thanks to the lockdown in Bangalore. I took out the batteries today to recharge them. Having used it for an hour or so after, the bike stalled twice. After stalling, the ignition would stutter for a bit before switching back on. Both times the bike stalled while moving. Any idea what may be wrong? The bike was serviced quite recently.

              Thanks in advance.
If the bike fires up perfectly and stalls again, and the starter motor has trouble cranking the engine after each stall, it's a sure shot sign the battery is either weak or not holding up the charge enough to provide enough juice for the electricals.

Battery is weak. Replace the battery, though it will last another couple of months, but eventually it will give up.

CYCLOPS are a great pair of bulbs and use good quality chipsets. You can also try Aliexpress for similar bulbs, which you can source for cheaper prices.

Amaron eyes closed. Sonic is the next best alternate.

Meh, IMO the only fuel additive you really need is an occasional fuel injector cleaner. The higher priced petrols in India (eg BP Speed) have these mixed in already. Otherwise I use something like STP. I also ran a couple of tankfuls with HEET once when I got some water in my tank. I don't know if the HEET did any good, but I don't think it did any harm.

Oil additives are snake oil, especially if you are using a good quality synthetic oil. Just use a high quality engine oil.

                        Hi Guys,

I have a 2018 non-abs cbr 250r. Due to lockdown I have not been able to get it out for a drive and usually turn on the engine for few minutes in the parking and move the bike a bit. Once in a month I take it for a spin around my neighborhood. Yesterday, I took my bike out and within 100 mts the engine stopped completely while I was in 2nd hear. I tried turning off /on the engine couple of times but it did not start. After few tries, I tried again holding the ignition and then it started. I continued to drive post that. Later while I approaching a signal, I slowed down to come to a halt, and the engine turned off again. I was shifting down from 3rd gear. This time I tried starting the bike by holding the ignition like before and it turned on. What can be an issue here?

                        My bike's service is due.

If your vehicle starts after pressing the ignition lockset key to the extreme and holds on and repeats, we might have a faulty ignition lock set. I would suggest you use WD40/Zorrik around the ignition keyset hole and turn on and off the ignition quite a number of times, and observe if it solves the issue. It can be due to as simple as oxidation due to non usage or the solder inside giving off slowly. Try this method and keep your observations posted.

                          Cheers!

I just completed 50k kms on my bike and was very excited so, just wanted to share. I know people have done more than this but for me this is a feat to achieve considering what all we (my bike and I) have been through :-).

So, 5 years 5 months and odo 50.1k and running [emoji3590]

Thank you all in this thread who've provided my constant support and helped me whenever I faced an issue [emoji3590][emoji3590]Click image for larger version

What are the things that need to be checked before buying a used 2017 Cbr 250r c-abs model which has run 11000km? Will be going tomorrow to have a test ride.
Owner is asking 1.10lac. Is it a good deal?

Conditions warrant that the bike is in great shape, especially battery, chain life and tires which are primary and important checks. Make sure the engine sounds great after warmed up, with no abnormal rattling as such. Check, double check all electricals for proper operation.

Make sure you replace all the fluids, brake, engine and radiator fluids after you purchase irrespective of the previous history.

Make sure you check the life of brake pads, which would mean you can bargain a couple of thousand bucks appropriately.

These are primary objectives. Check the PDI thread for more tips.

                                Good luck.

                                Cheers!
