    - Is anyone using MRF or PSD? Are they soft or medium compound? Pls share some experience on them
    - Are there any other, non Chinese, non Conti-Go, reputed brands who makes these sizes?
    - Is IRC available in India? Can I still opt even after this - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/520943-post.html?
    - Is Michelin (not sure if its called as SIRAC) available for this size? Are they soft compound? Would a normal use last for about 8-10K kms?

    TIA for any inputs.
    1. Even I want to stick to stock size.
    2. You mean MRF REVZ 140/70-17 used in FZ models? I feel it is not a bad thing, using different brands in front and rear. But why you don't want to use PSD in rear while you are opting for it in front??
    3. I have personal experience on neither of them.
    4. Dunlop is having the rear size but not sure of the front one. Bridgestone, if you could get it here Read good reviews about it.
@METAL_MANIAC is using Dunlop in rear. Sadly no posts from him in any recent times. His post here.
    5. Read in some other CBR 250 forum that the IRC used in CBR is not good. PSD is anytime better than IRC. One of my friend using PSD 140/70-17 in his ninja told me that it is better than his stock IRC tire.
    6. Haven't come across a Michelin in this spec, yet.

P.S: I observed one thing recently that, the hard compound tires (Read Conti-Go) save the rim at times. I doubt a soft compound will be able to withstand that force when you hit a pothole at high speeds.

I am having a similar thought in recent days But not sure how much practical and reliable it will be..

Wonderful point; but can you help understand how it makes a difference if the tire pressure is intact?

Count me on that list too!!! But what I think is, adding additional caliper kit & disc will add up the weight of the vehicle causing a drop in the top end. Instead, I'm thinking to import the original Brembo caliper kit from abroad (the BYBRE is crap) & use the STD pads available here in addition to steel braided hose.

The tire(hard ones) takes the impact to some extent and transfers less to the other side. It was just my thought, might be wrong. Hope experts can throw some light on this.

+1.. I am thinking to put steel braided hose to this current setup itself. I know it will not increase effectiveness of braking but still.. what do you say??

No it will not, but, will help to increase the pressure probably. But to increase the bit, the suspension has to be stiffer, atleast, that's what I understand. May be wrong though.

            1) Different tread patterns and especially different rain grooves will affect the bike's handling in the monsoon (personal experience)

            2) Not true. Compounds are often described in terms of their "hardness" or "softness". This does not mean literally how hard the tyres are to touch, but describes how the tyres behave on the racetrack. Harder compound tyres will be more durable than softer compound tyres, meaning that the driver can complete a greater number of laps before the tyres lose performance and they are forced to make a pit stop. However, the harder compounds will provide less grip than the softer compounds, meaning that the driver will not be able to go as fast on each of the laps they make. The choice of tyre compound is therefore a compromise between durability and grip. Choose hard and you'll be able to stay out longer than your competitors. Choose soft and you'll have to pit earlier in the race but you'll be going faster than they are and may be able to make up the difference!

            • Nitesh - I understand the grip & friction part, but, how far the hard/soft compound can with stand the beatings over a pothole? I'm kind of biased to Kishore's POV.

i really wont mind a little drop in the top end as far as i get max braking through dual disks. btw, how much will the BYBRE hose cost?? and do i need to make any changes in the front fork too if i opt for dual disks??

Don't ask the price here, we all hardly know them, get to ASC if you are serious.

For the setup, you'll need a fork bottom, complete disc assy & change the master cylinder to feed into two lines. Its an expensive setup though.

For the tracks a soft compound tyre would be a good idea anyday. But in the real world conditions and for long lasting tyres one must stick to the medium/hard compound tyres.
Besides the sidewalls on the soft compound tyres wont take up the pothole beatings which is why soft compounds are extensively used during track days(minus endurance races)
There are some tyres which come as Dual compound for eg: Michelin Pilot Road 2 and 3 but unfortunately they dont come in 140

                    • ^^^ Dai!!! I know all those basic differences. All I'm interested to hear about is what Kishore's point on hitting potholes. My theory is, as long as recommended pressure is in the tire, there's nothing to worry be it hard/soft compound; but can a hard compound do something more than additional life & poor grips in terms of handling potholes? This is my question.

Kishore - Here's another thought; the Pro-Link at softest does a good job on potholes? How about the suspension taking all the brunt sparing the tires? Wouldn't a soft compound be suffice? I'll be happy to improve my braking & grips, but the only flip side is, I expect it to last atleast 8-10K on ODO.

                          Q. Compare Ninja 250R Vs CBR 250R in short
                          A. Both cannot be compared as both offers two different variety in 250cc segment; both are superior in their own way. If Ninja 250R yields less FE & has excellent top speed, then CBR has better FE & less top end compared to Ninja 250R

                          Q. What is the top speed?
                          A. On any given day & condition it can do 135-137 Kmph. Anything above this speed are on favourable conditions. However few have experienced upto 170 solo & 146 pillion on speedo

                          Q. What is the cruising speed?
                          A. It depends what you want to call as cruising speed; it can keep doing 120/7500, 130/8100 or 135/8400 RPM all day

                          Q. What is the FE?
                          A. Depends on riding style. Most people get about 30 Kmpl on speeds over 115 Kmph; lower speeds give you better FE

                          Q. What is your take on Vibrations?
                          A. For a single cylinder 250cc, the vibrations are ok, but its upto one, how they want to take it. There's a noticable vibration even at idle which is 1500 (+-100) RPM. Optimally more speed & less vibes are felt between 120-126 Kmph

                          Q. Should I buy a STD or C-ABS?
                          A. If you can spend the additional 30K, go for C-ABS, its worthy

                          Q. I never ride on wet roads, is C-ABS still better than STD?
                          A. Yes; the 3 pot C-ABS is better than 2-pot STD

                          Q. I read a lot about quality issues, bike not looking big, rusting, paint peels, rusted coneset, loose fairings, tire issues, engine seizure & visible weld marks (if you've read that) what's your take on it?
                          A. You probably are not spending much time reading the latest reviews; all these issues have been taken care. Even if it does, they're replacable under warranty which is 2 years or 32K kms which is highest on any motorcycle in India.

                          Q. CBR is not as flickable as R15 is this true?
                          A. Yes it is; if you want flickable machine, then R15 is best; however, the flickable riding style was built on the R-15 & is always relative. There's no point comparing 2 bikes from 2 different segments, either change the riding style or don't upgrade.

                          Q. Is rattling a common problem with CBR?
                          A. Not really unless one rides carefully; going fast is different from how fast you get there; if you ride like there's no time, then you'll have to spend time & $$$ on fixing the rattles. If you're little careful on how fast you get to the max, then the rattles & loose fairings are bound to occur on long intervals.

                          Q. Other than the price difference & top speed, where does CBR score over Ninja?
                          A. FE, good RVM's, lower maintenance cost, wide spread ASC, VFM

                          Q. Other than the price difference where does Ninja score over CBR?
                          A. Top speed, world's best selling 250cc motorcycle, good customer service, better quality, less niggling issues

                          Q. What is the life of brake pad on CBR?
                          A. It depends primarily on how much brakes are applied; there're users who've reported a pad life change as low as 3-4K Kms & as high as over 14K Kms

                          Q. I hear the brakes aren't that great on STD
                          A. Yes, combined with the lack of bit in the front & soft front suspension, the brakes aren't that sharp. Better opt for C-ABS

                          Q. Can I buy a STD & fix the ABS later
                          A. No; even if possible, don't do it

                          Q. How is Honda's ASC?
                          A. Most of them sucks a big time; build a positive rapport with them if you want some personalized attention

                          Q. I hear Honda ASC doesn't stock up adequate spares, is that true?
                          A. It depends on ASCs & what spares one is looking for. While it is true that some of the ASCs don't stock up adequate, but most ASC's in Tier I & II cities stock up basic spares on regular servicing.

                          Q. What is that SHIM thing I keep hearing?
                          A. Go through this post - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post654917

                          Q. The horn is not loud
                          A. No matter how loud is your horn, you cannot change people's attitude on road; either improve your riding skills. Remember improving your riding skills is better than improving your honking skills

                          Q. I hear that the suspensions are very soft & not good for cornering, is that true?
                          A. CBR 250R is not a track machine; if you want to improve cornering skills, buy R15 or Ninja 250R. That said, CBR 250R is close to sports touring; the softest setting, though is little bumpy, is best suited on heavy potholed roads.

                          Q. I hear that Conti-Go tires have lots of issues
                          A. Yes, there were cut marks appearing on the tires, but Conti-Go has fixed them

                          Q. What if I get the cut marks?
                          A. The dealer HAS to replace it for you under warranty & you'll have to pay it on pro-rata basis

                          Q. How comfortable is the forward slanting riding position?
                          A. Its quite comfortable

                          Q. Will I develop back pain & wrist pain?
                          A. First of all, one of the basics on motorcycling is to remain fit, if you're not physically fit enough, one is bound to develop all physical issues even with Honda Goldwing. To answer it straight, if you're not used to forward leaning riding posture, yes, you're bound to develop wrist pain for first few 100 Kms. But there're people who've taken CBR to length & breadth of this country.

                          Q. Can I raise the handle bar?
                          A. Yes you can; fellow xBhpian icemang has done it. See this post - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post687599

                          Q. The exhaust note is not up to the mark
                          A. Whose mark?

                          Q. Can I take CBR to Leh/Ladakh
                          A. Fellow member Kurtrules have taken it to Leh/Ladakh - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/1...-marathon.html. The only limitation is you

                          Q. I hear that the radiator often gets lot of dirt when ridden in rains, what can I do?
                          A. Nothing or clean up; or extend the fenner with a plastic sheet for about 2 inches in the bottom or make a radiator cover like this

                          Q. What is the service cost?
                          A. Oil filter around Rs 250; Engine 10W-30 FS Rs 550 per litre, you'll need 1.5 lts; disc pads Rs 600 (STD) & 2K (ABS); any regular usage, it doesn't cost more than 2-3K per paid service

                          Q. I've parking problem & security issues
                          A. Get a disc alarm lock or use X

                          Q. Are there any side boxes available for CBR?
                          A. Look here - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/782237-post.html

                          Q. Sounds fantastic, now help me with color
                          A. For now there're only 3 colors, RED, BLACK & HRC. RED is quite common & fast moving, BLACK is very attractive to both eyes & dust. Few call HRC as ambulance color, go for it if you like. Its all personal choice

                          Q. I need a loan for the bike, what's the procedure?
                          A. Your best bet it to move your lazy butt & approach the bank. The more you spend time, the better deal you work out. Anyway, to begin with you'll need address proof, photo, photo identity proofs, 6-12 months bank account statement.

                          Q. Can I fix a HID, loud exhaust & advice on how to increase the top speed?
                          A. Dude...put your money on good quality riding gear, ride it for a while until the warranty expires & then think about mods. Most importantly...buy the bike first.

                          Q. I read somewhere that...
                          A. Post the source of the issue, let's discuss

                          Q. I've a question that's not here

excellent post.this is exactly what's required.very concise.should be there on the op as it answers the questions any prospective or newbie owner would have.would save a huge amount of time as one wouldnt have to go through hundreds of pages.hope this post gets reqularly updated with new points.

                              additional points worth consideration
1.cbr vs duke(now that its launched)

                              buy DUKE if:

u were a two stroke junkie, love short and fast revving engines, want a street bike primarily and not a mile muncher(duke is capable but cbr more so).duke has stiffer suspension.duke has 'lower' stable cruise speed of up to 110-115 (max unstressed that is).

duke gets mileage of upto 34kpl real world conditions(ridden hard as should be).50+kpl and all only if u ride in splendor mode+under 7500 rpm before first service.won't last for long once u ride the way it should I believe.

cbr is a proven model, minimal to zero complaints as to the bike/product itself now.

wallet depth:duke is a lot of bike for the money.
got a lil more??:buy cbr,u get even more bike
                              (some more:ninja 650
                              even more:buy fz1000,Harley. .)

                              2.cbr 250 vs 150
must be on similar lines with vs r15 argument

3.brake pad life;cheaper pulsar byber replacement for std.

4.race concepts mod for cbr:when completed and ready the cbr would make more than 33 bhp+ at crank I assume.don't know how much more the duke could handle in terms of power.for all those complaining lack of power.

5.stock Tyre replacements ,stock Tyre mileage.

                              6.cbr vs bullet classic 500!
please buy both if u can.apple vs oranges.brain vs heart or other way around.
