Thanks I just can't stay away from this baby. Damn addicted to riding this machine. BTW, the time at which I got my bike delivered was almost the time I had my college exams finished, and college closed. So I had nothing else to do other than RIDE RIDE and RIDE . I guess my daily ride duration would decrease by a good amount, once my college re-opens tomorrow

Yes, I know it's not hard. In fact, I have done it myself in an already dismantled engine. The thing here is, I don't know which bolts and nuts of the engine I have to remove, so as just to have the valve tips in view to do the job, and not mess up with the whole engine. Also, any idea how many inches or mm is the valve clearance space for the R15?

Pilot lamps are mainly used as parking lamps (useful when your bike is on the corner of a road) or just in late evening before night to indicate your presence on road. LED pilot lamps provided by Yamaha are 5 times brighter than the stock ones and consume less wattage.
But well the LED pilots provided by Yamaha is costly. I guess 2000 bucks for a pair.

According to the v1 service manual
            Intake 0.10-0.14mm
            Exhaust 0.20-0.24mm

            Not sure about the v2

Nope. LED pilot lamps cost Rs. 1000 a pair and the LED blinker set (all four indicators) cost Rs. 2800. These prices were for the V1,not sure if they are still available.

Check for damage marks. Wear at the screw or nut threads. If no is the answer then its the SVC to blame.
1st,what do you mean by if I am sure it fell off?
2nd, R15 v 2.0 front sprocket just comes with a single sprocket lock and that is not a screw.
3rd, there are no damage marks. At least to my eyes.

Any incident where you can walk away from is a good incident. More than the inconvenience that it caused you, you should be more concerned about the potential it had to cause serious injuries to you. And that is what you should have emphasized in your correspondence with Yamaha.
Ya I have emphasized on that. The mail was too lengthy so didn't post it here.

Again, R15 v 2.0 front sprocket just comes with a single sprocket lock and that is not a screw. If possible open up the sprocket cover and check. You can easily open it using a 8mm ring or t-wrench.

It has to be loose lock or faulty lock as I don't ride it rash.

This can be anybody's fault but mine. SVC because they didn't check before leaving the bike, Showroom because of improper PDI check, authorized SVC again because of bad after sales service, mainly the blame game. Really disappointed.

                    Here is my 2nd email:

                    To,
                    The Servicing Head,
                    India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd

My name is Raneet Mallick and I am an employee at a reputed MNC where my office responsibilities need me to work at night shifts. I reside in Kolkata and I own an R15 v 2.0 White Limited Edition which was purchased on 02.05.2012 it presently reads 1700 kilometers on the odometer.

Yesterday when I was going for work at the middle of night, suddenly something happened on my bike and it started behaving strange. I stopped my bike and noticed that the chain was hanging from the bike. I tried to check if the chain broke but it was fine. I then parked the bike properly and with the necessary tools that I had I opened the left cover under which is the front sprocket of the bike. Now to my surprise I found that there was no sprocket there.

I stood there in the middle of the night for hours before my friends could come to help me where even street dogs were not there. It was very embarrassing and disgusting. I missed my office because of the fact I could not leave the bike in the middle of the street. Finally managed to park the bike at a friend's office so that I can go the next day with a mechanic and get it fixed then ride it back home.

Today (23-06-2012) I contacted the YFS Kolkata Service center and mentioned them about my grievances. I was assured help but I was told that I would be charged for the spare. Well, I do have a problem in that. I buy the premium model of the premium product that you can offer at this point of time to us, and even before it's 2 months old, I get reliability issues. I am grateful to God that the sprocket did not get stuck to the drive chain and result in a big accident which could have costed me major injuries or even my life.

Now my question is, is this the kind of reliability that you offer on your products? Is this the kind of service that you provide to your customers? Purchasing a motorbike costing more than 1.2 lacs on road and then get stuck in the middle of the city because the front sprocket just fell off? I have never heard sprockets falling off home-made bikes also. All my friends are surprised to see this kind of a problem with a brand like Yamaha that too on their premium product. They were bullying me for buying a Yamaha. Is this the kind of confidence you inculcate in your customers? I had to go through a lot of harassment that night and I am really not ready to listen to rubbish excuses. I don't care whose fault it is, the company, the showroom or the service center, all I know is that is not my fault and I am not ready to suffer for the same anymore. I am not suppose to open up the sprocket cover and tighten it everyday before I start. That is not mentioned in the user manual you provide. It is something that the company should make sure everything is in order before dispatching the product, it is the showroom who needs to make sure the pre-delivery check was done properly, it is the service center who should provide PROPER SERVICE without telling me, "You need to consult the showroom from where you bought it or the service center from where you got the first servicing done".

All details regarding my bike are mentioned below:

                    Model - YZF R15 v 2.0 LE
                    Color - White
                    Chassis - ME11CK023C200****
                    Engine Number - 1CK200****
                    Key Number - ****
                    Reg Number - WB 24 W 3948

I want a quick response as I use my bike daily and I do not wish to hamper the regular flow of my life for too long. And if you think nothing can be done from your end, then I will be more than glad to escalate this issue further to the consumer court.

No uneven wear in the past 6200 kms. I prefer a little bit low pressure in rains to add to the traction and grip. I can sacrifice mileage and tyres to get added grip on wet surfaces. Not saying too much un-even wear ... but it does happen to some extent and reduces life of tyres...

keeping low tyre pressure can make tyre to move about under the bike on corners and that might cause instability at high speeds....
