Not necessary to change now. Better change at 500kms and then on First service at 1k. If you havent changed it yourself yet on an R15 , dont do it . Go to svc.Originally posted by himanshunegi1987 View Post

Dear XBHPians,
Recently, i got to know about a used 2010 V1 R15 in NCR, HR26BEXXXX. The seller is quoting 75K for it.
Yesterday, i went his place to have a look at it.
The bike was in stock conditions (threads were visible on tyres and no modifications). Regularly serviced as said (was last serviced ~1500 km, 9000 Km On ODO at present). The reason for selling was that he want to buy a car.
Now, i ride a P135, so have no ideas about R15. Test drived R15. Overall feel was good, no strange noises etc. Since, it was dark but still i can say there were no scratches. Only thing bothering me is a strange type of noise coming from engine-more of a kat-kat-kat-kat on idling (~1.2K RPM).
I recorded the engine sound by putting my cell phone close to lower-right side of engine. AT first engine was running on idling then i twisted the throttle to 2-3K RPM with sudden twists. I have attached the audio file (zipped) for the same as an attachment.
I guy was saying like look its nothing but idling issue (that time engine idle was at 1200RPM), he also assured me that if i have any doubt regarding that strange sound then i can take any mechanic with me to have a closer look at the bike.
My dilemma:
1) Since, it is registered at Gurgaon, will it be feasible to transfer it on my name (i reside at sarita vihar, delhi)? (Ready to pay RTO touts)
2) That strange noise from engine is bothering me.
So, help with your valuable comments especially R15 owners!
PS: UNable to attach the zip file. Kindly follow the link

I thought it was recommended for better engine life to change it @ 100-150 mark. What about the chain lube ? Where in delhi and which brand and at what price ? Anyone ?Originally posted by Ivin View PostNot necessary to change now. Better change at 500kms and then on First service at 1k. If you havent changed it yourself yet on an R15 , dont do it . Since your driving conditions are as said my the manual, you shouldnt worry. And of course the bike has a very very long lasting reliable engine.Originally posted by himanshunegi1987 View PostI thought it was recommended for better engine life to change it @ 100-150 mark. my personal view is that i would not like a very bright tachometer as it kinda distracts me during night ride. but a white, lesser lit would look good.
Thanks Buddy, but white looks Excellent but still what will you advice in both of them apart from the distraction through Bright light.

Hi
See, their can be two problems, change appropriate Oil and Filter, or that sound comes when you rush your bike continuously at high speed link 110-120 for long time on regular basis. you can ask the mechanic to tighten up the Tapid.Originally posted by itallion stallion View PostDear XBHPians,

Guys, my bike's throaty note - the one which it makes around 6000-7000 rpm is gone and I can feel it heating up a bit more too.
Now it's engine/exhaust sounds very weak, like it's of a 10 year old, ill maintained bike!
I had run it in properly following all the stuff discussed on this thread. Even now I had been riding it under 7K RPM.
This first started when I washed it a few days ago and a day before that one of my friends had borrowed the bike for a few hours too, don't know if any of these led to the problem!
Any suggestions on what could be the issue here? I'll be taking it to the SVC tomorrow anyways but it'll great if you guys could tell me some probable causes (peace of mind for the night).Last edited by Techiemechie; 09-20-2012, 10:07 PM.Yamaha R15 V2.0 (2012)

Hello guys,
Been gone for long! Sorry for that.

Hmm.. So spark plug was resulting in it, or major contribution was of the leakage from the head?Originally posted by dpak89 View PostCompleted Third Service @4.5k kms(instead of 6k kms.). Had the overheating issue for long time. This time tried a different service centre to solve it.
They found that the spark plug is 'defective'.. and they also said that there is a leak in the head(reason being the head is not fit tight enough to stop the coolant leak). So they have fit it properly.Have to run a
The oil and filter has been changed as usual!
Spark plug-63
door grommet(coolant side) - ~61
Oil+filter- ~670
coolant(top up)- ~90

Need help!~Solved
A big query! Problemo..
She was just fine. Long rides, not a problem..
Saturday, rode her for some 10- 12 kms, then gave her a wash.
Later rode for around 10 kms, and a break of 3 hrs.
Later rode for ~15 kms and suddenly the console light started blinking (on/off), with the orange light on.
Fuel supply being kind of restricted (I guess thats the default action taken).
Turned the engine switch off, and everything went off.
Tried turning key on/off- No self check, Nothing..
5 mins later, turned the key ON, all fine.. Ran fine for about 2- 3 kms. Again console blinking and fuel supply being cut.
Had called Satyen bhai. As per his suggestion, did a Push-start, and voila, it came to life.
Yayy! Again ~200 mts ahead, blinking and stuff- the same.
Again gave a push and started, it was just fine on idling, but refused to rev past 2 K RPM. Stuttering..
Revving a bit, and she ran fine.
Parked for some time, started- all fine. Came home- around 6 kms without a sign of problem.
Next morning, started- let it idle for around 45 secs- 1 min, all fine. Took her out, filled fuel again 200 mts ahead, same- stopped.
Even push start didnt help. Got her home somehow..
P.S: I was kinda low on fuel (not in reserve though).
I suspect either the fuel pump (which is doubtful- as she ran fine once after the problem), or the radiator not working (may be an air lock)..
Thanks to Satyen! Called him at 11.30
Sorry for such formatting, but I need to emphasis on this.. If needed, I'll edit.
Kindly help!
Update: It was a loose battery connection! Tightening the screw solved it. Stupid me.

You do realize what 100 meters beam throw is, right? Its the length of a football field. Illuminating such huge distances is the art of a car(even though I doubt this too), not a bike. I see that majority of R15 (V1 and V2) owners complain big time about the beam throw. Is it that pathetic? P220 has got the projectors setup and that is virtually blinding to the incoming traffic. Is R15's double headlight setup that bad?Originally posted by road_ripper View PostBuddy to be frank the light intesity is really really low for an hid, i dont know if its in the pics or how it looks in real.
The road is hardly lit for 100 meters even in complete darkness, i think a stock p220 lights lits up more distance than this. Might be will have to see in real to judge if its good or not, but as far the pics say i expected a lot more throw from two hid'sRegards,

Hi
1) Read this guys bike got stolen, please suggest any good alarm system for R15. Is it worth it , the alarm system ? Any other security we can do to it ?
2) Can someone please suggest me a good service center in Delhi please.
3) I haven`t had a good experience with K&N on my old CBZ-X, is there any K&N that i can fit in R15 without modding any other setting? Basically i just want it for the sound. I don`t mind putting it in air filter box or whatever it is called.
Thank You

Oh that's the Yamaha Signature sound which comes around 6,000-7,000rpm, even the big R's have it. The problem that you have faced is nothing new either, may i know how many kms on the odo? Does the bike require an oil and filter change.Originally posted by Techiemechie View PostGuys, my bike's throaty note - the one which it makes around 6000-7000 rpm is gone and I can feel it heating up a bit more too.

Engine heating is normal, also please check the radiator grill, are the fins bent or something due to washing or so. Since you have mentioned washing, i hope you know the radiator should not be touched at all, if those fins bent there is no cooling present and that's why the heating.
I wouldnt use a K&N if I was you. Rather a Cosworth would be best in class, this filter can be washed with water, Yes you heard it right, it can be washed with water when dirty.Originally posted by himanshunegi1987 View PostHi

Iam attaching a link, many V1 owners have installed this filter. Also if you plan to buy it from DSG, dont, unless you are in Pune or the product is in front of you, they have worst shipping policies.
I hope you are also aware that installing a after market product will void off the warranty you have. But there is way around too, if any problems are faced, install the OEM filter and then go to SVC, dont let them find out that you have an after market product. It will take time for your ECU to get adjusted to new product as it requires hell lot of patience and tuning also. A filter is useless without a free flow, So consider than an option too.
Check this link for more information on Cosworth filter

my friend had this problem of "stopping after 200ms" with some other Yamaha.
the problem was with Fuel tank.
Some small air hole was blocked on the tank which restricted fuel flow.
For a quick check, run w/o locking the tank (use the spare key if needed).sigpic

@abhi m i right or wrong?
dude dont do that. keep it around 4k to 5k rpm till 500kms to 700kms. then open up little to 7k rpm till 1.3k kms. this machine is built to revv not to go like a splendor
{no offence to splendor} if u ride like this now and try to ride for top end or harder later you wont be happy. My friend's LE (odo 5k) has the same problem.Originally posted by Techiemechie View PostGuys, my bike's throaty note - the one which it makes around 6000-7000 rpm is gone and I can feel it heating up a bit more too.

it sounds like HH Glamor
Also, it doesn't have any feel, it revs up w/o any problems but no feel of acceleration.
But mine sounds great and have a nice feel. (not boosting, others who rode both bikes back 2 back gave the same feedback)
The differences we have in terms of maintenance.
I broke in Motoman way (took her to 10k within the first few kms
)
LE was broke in "Owners Manual" way. He didn't take her above 40km/h for the first 500km and then 50km/h till 1k
I had tried to convince him to go up and down with the revs and to neglect the speedo , but failed.
When i broke in, i changed to mineral oil after 150kms and the engine got very rough. Very noisy, and was generating some heat.
and the roughness disappeared around 1k then @ 1st service i changed back to semi synth.
Now My bike produces decent Power and gives good FE.
Now i'm on a conservative run to check the max FE in City, i'll post the result as soon as i have it.
My point is, motomans break is the best, "if you have the guts"
