I had a few questions regarding the delivery of the bike since this is the first time I have bought a vehicle so I don't know the process.

Yesterday while booking the sales agent told me that I will be getting my bike by Tuesday or Wednesday maximum. He told me to go to the Thane RTO (since my address comes in Thane) when the agent calls just to show the originals for the documents which I have submitted for the registration purpose.

    My query is:

    1) Will I be getting the registration number on the spot? or will he be giving me TCed bike post the RTO business.

    2) If I am getting the number, Can I ride my vehicle to my work place which is some 18kms from my place? What documents should I be carrying? I've heard that smart card takes 30-45 days to reach by post so by then what documents are valid?

    3) Can some please refer me links to know this process which could help a newbie like to understand what is the process and help in resolving queries?
First of all you will not be getting your bike number on the spot,That is in RTO.
The step which you are telling is being done by my dealer itself. They never called me in RTO...
If u want you can take bike from dealer on that day..but you cant ride it since it will be in TC number...
I would advice you not to take delivery on that day...just wait for number and get delivery.

He will give you some insurance papers and will ask you to bring back the bike for RTO verification. The registration card will be delivered to you after a month or two by speed post.

      2) If I am getting the number, Can I ride my vehicle to my work place which is some 18kms from my place? What documents should I be carrying? I've heard that smart card takes 30-45 days to reach by post so by then what documents are valid? : If you get your number then yes you can. You should carry PUC sticker, insurance papers and registration receipt. Yes, the smart card took about 2 months for me.

      3) Can some please refer me links to know this process which could help a newbie like to understand what is the process and help in resolving queries?Dont worry.Just give me a cal. I will resolve your doubts
Why did you book your bike from ganesh enterprises and why not from AIMS in thane?

Rather I will suggest you to take delivery of bike even without registration and keep it with you. I did the same. Ensure that you dont ride above 100kms till the bike is inspected by the RTO officer.

      • And regarding my Tappet noise or whatever it is, I emailed Yamaha India regarding this and even registered a complaint on their website. This was my mail to Yamaha

        "
        Dear Sir,

My R15v2.0 has clocked 2900kms as yet and my second free service was done at ganesh enterprises, vikhroli west.

I am facing a kind of tappet noise/knocking sound between 5k rpm to 6.5krpm in my r15v2.0. I asked the service centre guys to take a ride of my bike and check for that noise/sound, but they say its fine. But I am still not convinced. I have ridden many bikes but this kind of noise is as if something is rattling in the engine. I have bought my bike in mid november 2012. I have followed the run-in (break-in) properly as stated in Yamahas Manual of R15v2.0

Kindly arrange for a knowledgeable service guy to check my bike. I need this issue to be sorted out soon.

Request you to do the needful as early as possible.

        Kind Regards,

        Chirag Thakur

        Vikhroli

        "

Today I got a call from Yamaha India (Noida I guess -120). That guy asked for chassis number and details about first and second service. Explained the issue again and added that none of the service centres here in Mumbai follow the checklist given in the manual. That guy told me that an engineer will be deputed to my place soon and will do a thorough check f my bike.

Thanks Yamaha. Lets hope for the best

I am thinking of same since I would rather keep it with me till the time the registration happens... than with them ..bt the problem is I stay in Thane and the showroom is in Mumbai ..so I cant even travel on my bike to the showroom once the number comes (he said I would be levied octroi if I take an TC vehicle from Thane to Mumbai)
he said he would come to my place for giving the number and other documents..

Can you help me with the list of documents that I should receive till the time the bike is in TC?

@sorcerer's_apprentice... the bold part is now irrelevant since I am not getting a number on the bike on the same day

After some 2-3 months of research I have finally narrowed down my options to Pulsar180 & R15 V2. Well to be honest I am more inclined towards taking R15. Although I have some queries:
1> What is tappet noise? I have seen many R15 V2 owners talking about it. Can anyone please throw some light on this matter?
2> I live in Bangalore… so which showroom would be the best to take the bike from??( Please do share your experience as it will help me in choosing a showroom to purchase from)
3> Where to get good quality helmet and gloves(at reasonable rates) in Bangalore.

I had a Pulsar 180 and now own a upgraded bike which is the V2.

              1) Would like you to ignore this noise since all R15's I have seen including v1 sound the same at mid rpm which is 4-6k rpm. The latest issue, I havent come across so would not like to comment unless seen. Most members out here mistake the grunt noise to be of tappet, well its not.

              2) From Pune so cant advice that.

              3) I can tell you the brand which would be available there, try DSG or Cramster in regards to gloves and jacket. For helmets would like to advice either a SOL (1st Preference) or then LS2. What is your budget. You need to wear safety gear first to know its comfort.

If you compare the Pulsar 180 and R15, I would say both bikes are best but the R15 would be an upgrade over the 180 anyday.

                • Eshan, I am 100% sure it isnt the grunt. The grunt is different whereas this is some kind of noise, it "can" be tappet noise.

                  • Generally in high revving bikes like r15 the tappets get loose early than in normal bikes. This creates an abnormal sound like pebbles ratting in a metal can. It doesnt affect the performance. Not a bit. But the sound is kind of annoying. Not that pronounced but still audible. You can go ahead eyes closed for a R15v2. No looking back

Kindly read this for some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tappet

Only the insurance papers will be given to you when you get the bike. Nothing else. Ensure that you get the toolkit while taking delivery

1k would offer you minimal protection, My advice would be save a bit more and go for the best.

Attaching links of two brands. Dont forget to check their dealer network page to find the closest one to your location or call them directly.

                      Tappet noise

Tappet noise arises when the opening and closing of valves during acceleration and declaration is not timed properly, thats why you hear this tik tik tik tik noise at certain rpms (mostly mid range).

This is a brief topic and would like you to go through this link-

                      Dan's Motorcycle Valve Adjustment

Its more go to do with valve clearance.

Members out here do feel that it is a issue, but R15 has that kind of firing which might make your feel that it needs adjustment. There are symptoms involved if you think there are problems in tappets which no member here has pointed out.

                      1) The bike refuses to start - Min 3 cranks would require to get it to life.
                      2) Tick tick tick even at idling.
                      3) Reduced pick up
                      4) Decreased in fuel economy - My friend this point sees a considerable drop since there is no optimum utilization of fuel because of irregular timing.
                      5) Low output, the engine does not deliver 100% performance.

                      Hope this helps.

                      EDIT - @Chirag

What are the symptoms your bike is facing in the mentioned above?

                        2) Tick tick tick even at idling - Negative and the other tick tick is due to catcon.
                        3) Reduced pick up - Cant judge unless I TD some other r15v2
