I feel the current yamalube Semi-synth is smooth only for a month and it becomes rough after temperature increases.. Gonna touch 3k on Odo.. Moreover one big doubt.. whats the grade we use?? Is the grade printed in manual wrong?? And if i go for Full synth what oil will you ppl recommend ( with grade plz )

dont change to FS now. do it after 8k or 10k. or after all free services. i am still running on SS (shell AX7) odo reading 9.5k. the engine roughness has other reasons too beside the engine oil thing. do not worry about the FS oil now ( honestly my opinion, but if you still insist on FS then will let you know what few guys are using in YRC group).

my bike had become rough, hard gear shifts, with vibes too. sensed something terribly wrong. went to Sprint SVC yest, quick wash, chain lubed. had asked the guy to check for tappets noise and adjust if needed. bingo! it was tappets noise which i used to hear ( you see guys you need to sense something wrong with the bike when things get unusual for longer time, my instinct worked), tappets adjusted, and clutch cable changed bike is back to buttersmooth MODE now i swear , its smooooth!

There are different reasons for engine roughness/ vibes/hard gear shifts too. chain got dried/rusted or dirty this will also be reason for improper gear shifts.

Had been for ride to nandi hills today will post few pics later. had a blast in those ghats, was tailing a MT01 OMG yes! happy!!! Rode the 2005 YZF R6s too

Cool thanks... And you didnt answer this.. Is the Oil grade printed in manual wrong? I think manual says 20w40 but many use 15w50 i guess. Also is tappet adjustment time consuming process and does it require a skilled mechanic??

The standard Yamalube for R15 that i get from the SVC is 15W50. Since its meant for the R15 it must be alright. And yes it differs from the recommended grade given in the manual.

I got valve clearance adjusted for the first time in my last service at 17k km. Its a simple straightforward job. The main guy (mechanic) at the SVC tried to convince me not to get it done since i am not having any problem of noise. His logic is that if something isn't broken don't fix it. Duh! But emboldened by Abhimanyu31's answer regarding this http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post930290 i figured i had better get it done this time.

Oil grade printed in manual will be obviously correct. 15W50 is the lesser viscosity oil. while 20w40 is little higher then the 15w. the 15w will flow faster than the 20w oil. with 15w the bike warms up faster then the 20w. i am using 10w40. ( as i had mentioned earlier, its your choice to go for the oil, and dont consider what others use)

Tappets adjustment should be done by technically sound mechanic, it will take around 45min to 1 hours to do everything.

Hey Ron whats the advantage you get of Using 10W40 grade engine oil?? And by using such a low viscosity than the recommended one,Wont you glaze the cylinder walls?? And sorry for banging you with questions Am noob in this matter,Just wanted to know

The advantage is that the cold starts are better.
Normally the oil needs to be in 'it's' temperature range to ensure that it can flow/lubricate the engine parts.
This is the reason why you should ride for 'some' time with an easy right hand before you start redlining/upshifting at higher RPMs.
I know that the question was not aimed at me, so please excuse me.

                      • When braked my bike gives me a feedback of pulling towards left! Also the front tyre is wearing off on left side for the past few weeks. I suspect it is because of Front forks. I had a fall (on the right side) some time back. May be right fork is malfunctioning due to that? I also changed the disc pads recently. Can anyone tell me whether my suspicion is correct?

Check your seating position while braking. and how sure are you that the tyre is wearing off on left side only?
I dont think its forks, but check the handle. if the handle is fine then it will be the fork.

Sometimes i have observed, when i brake harder, the bike tends to go on the side (either side), and i notice i will be applying more pressure on right hand/right leg.

The sensor is gone. I had my service last friday
Now i told them that after i did my service the speedometer is not working.
Is there any chance of SVC changing sensor?
How can version 2 sensor go waste in just 3 months?
They are asking for 550Rs fo it.
Currently sensor is not available but if they charge me for that i will do a mail to yamaha india.
Same thing happened with my R15's sensor in last year in Mumbai. I checked in 2 svcs in Mumbai and they were all asking the same rs/-550 for that though it was under warranty.
So i didn't replace that as I was shifting to Pune and wanted to try out here.
Cheked in one svc and the story was same. But later went to YFS,Pune and they told me it's under warranty and changed the sensor immediately.

So I would suggest, check in YFS,Mumbai as others SVCs are always reluctant when it comes to replacing part and any warranty issue.

First Service Mandatory Involves use of

                                1) Engine oil - Yamalube 15w50 SS Rs 505
                                2) Oil Filter - Rs 167

These two changes are primary and should be done in first service

                                Now,

These are optional, can be rejected as in done at home.

                                1) Chain cleaning and Lubing Rs 150 (this is pune price, check in your area)

Apart from this, some SVC adds a monetary charge of coolant top up which is ABSOLUTELY NOT REQUIRED SINCE ITS YOUR FIRST SERVICE. Consider additional Rs 100 to Rs 150 for this top up.

My suggestion is ask them to give you a accurate list of what is going to be used in your bike that is going to be charged, very easy process! The first two points, engine oil and oil filter are mandatory, rest should not be an issue.

Cleaning is free and included in the service coupon, if they disagree show them the coupon present in the manual, turn the page and see those mentioned points. Tell them to give you another date for washing the vehicle in the current week itself. Please be present through out the servicing, let the procedure take place in front of you so that you are doubt free, meanwhile understand how oil is replaced and other important servicing details.
                                Hope this helps.
