  • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0

my R15 is now 655 kms old..from the last 100 or so kms, the gearing has become quite harsh, well not harsh really but rather quite less smooth than what it was before..when i first started riding it 13 days ago i expected the gears to be unsmooth as i had read a lot of people saying that until first service gearing is not so smooth..contrary to my expectation it was pretty smooth..but in the last 100-150 kms i am finding it much less smooth than before...is this normal until first servicing ? i cant figure out if i am doing something wrong (in the first couple of days i made random mistakes in gearing 2-3 times when in traffic, but that happened just 2-3 times and it was nothing too bad), or is this a result of several engine stalls at low RPMs that i did in the first 3-4 days after buying the bike on account of not getting accustomed to the feel of the clutch in the initial days ?

i am hoping this typically happens at some point before the first servicing to everyone. ..of course i expect after first servicing gearing and a lot of things will become much smoother, but i cant figure out why it has become harder and harsher in the last 100-150 kms than what it was before ?

Mate get your bike serviced.. Its time..
and the harshness happens when the engine oil has been used to its life..
it will smooth out after the service.. The fresh oil will give the whole system a good boost..
and don't worry about mistakes.. They happen to all of us.. So chill out and do what needs to be done.. Get it serviced..

      Ride safe and have fun.

Actually just lots of radicools lying around in my cousin house (he is in transportation line) he also uses it in his 200 ns so thought i could some of it he is quite satisfied with its performance in 200 as it is concentrated bottles he uses a distilled water to coolant ratio of 70-30 ya ideally it should be 50-50 but the average temps here are to high in summer often nudging 45 46 degrees and in town this mixture performs well than the usual motocool version but iam not sure whether it is silicate free

Guys whats piston slapping?? How to find whether mine is slapping or not?? Any symptoms?? Btw my ride becomes harsh when driving in traffic ie: when engine temp is high, I can feel the harshness in lower gears. Oil is motul 5100 (1500km old and genuine)
Is this normal or oil prob??? Shifting to full synth from next oil change

Piston slap is the banging of piston to the cylinder liner or wall in addition to the only up and down motion of a piston in vertical axis a faulty piston shows slap by showing scondary motion in horizontal axis it occurs when the piston is defective and doesnt fit the bore snugly thus ensuring a certain amount of wall clearance that is more than the tolerable limit old bullets i.e cast iron engined bullets showed piston slap in numerous cases

It is un common in r15 and opposed to your mention the sound will be audible from the first crank of the engine even if the engine is stone cold
You shoul check your valve clearances and clutch housing play i had the same issue in my ride at 22k kms and it turned out to be excessive clutch housing play resulting in burning of the plates till now not mended it mech told crankcase need to be taken to lathe so waited instead and put on new plates going good till now below is the image of my busted plates

servicing already at 655 kms ? would the SVC guys service it ? the bike's neither 1000kms old nor 30 days, at one of which the bike's first servicing is to be done...yesterday went there to take my registration papers and asked if i should change the oil having done about 550 kms (i know the manual says to do that along with a lot of other servicing at 1000kms, but just wanted to see what he thinks), he said it's not needed until the first service, as of course the manual says...

maybe i will tell them the gears are less smooth than before and that i have gone to 7500 RPMs right around 500kms mark on the odo (as the manual allows you to do that) and ridden a lot at those RPM levels in the last 150-200 kms, and insist them to do it.

It is a good idea to get it serviced prior to schedule. But honestly, why would you want to force the SVC guys mate. They may not pay proper attention or worse they might pay too much attention based on your narration which might have adverse effects if the stars are not in your favor .

Just tell them you are taking your bike for a long trip and won't be back for the scheduled service.
                  Good luck!

It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

the svc guys don't bother to look into the problems you say..
and about the servicing, 30 days or 1000km is the last limit.. it should be done prior to them.. 700kms around is the best time..
don't always wait for to last moment, get the things done when you feel that the performance is not upto the mark..
now a days, they don't give free service even its one day after the time limit.. like if you go after 31 days, they will use the 2nd free slip. and not use the 1st one.. seen that happening to many guys..

                    Ride safe and have fun.
