I'm waiting for my new 50th anniversary limited edition R15v2.0. I'll get it in, like maybe, a month or so
I'm paying 123K cuz i just LOVE her. But here comes a doubt. if i'm involved in an accident, will i get spares for the bike? I heard that only 4k units are being made, and i'm a little, no, a lot worried about the availability of spares.
    Anyone know anything about this?

It is 123520 to be precise i guess, .
Yes, you would get spares, though there might be delay in getting them but you would surely do.
Even for old limited edition parts are available.

and as far as i know only 1000 units shall be manufactured.

About the riding gear, yes, it is very very true that riding gear is a very important part of safety, however, it is not the only aspect of safety... Constantly improving riding skills (it takes time and effort) and understanding the dynamics of the bike are equally important if not more important than riding gear. Understanding the limits of your riding skills, riding within them, and improving them in controlled conditions will go a long way to enhance safety.

You have mentioned lapse of concentration and confusion on where to go as the reasons for the crash. Well, both are cardinal sins in riding... first prevented you from noticing a potentially dangerous situation before it developed into a life threatening situation. Had you spotted it in time you would have taken steps to prevent the situation. The second part about being confused is a classic case of target fixation which led to the activation of 'freeze response' (also known as acute stress response). To prevent both these type of reposes requires constant practice and improving of riding skills.

After all the best crash is the one that never happened and thereby the one you never have to walk away from...
Thanks Abhi for the input and rightly said. Need it badly.

I was considered the good rider in our gang, and I was always the lead rider in the group.

The dreadful event happened during cornering on the ghat ride yesterday, negotiating the curve I saw a Toyota Qualis on the exit, these guys had a break during their ride and spilled a lot of water on the road which is preoccupied with sand and dirt turning it into a death trap. I saw it and went a little bit wide to escape it and during that the front skid a little and and regained its grip again resulting in a high side for me.

It was unexpected but it happened. Cursed them for a while but couldn't do anything. Lucky for me as I was OK. Bike was OK and driveable. Has to go another 65 km to reach home. Lucky me.

Anyways I will keep these in mind everytime I ride, as we learn from our mistakes.

Once again thanks for the valuable information

        Cheers guys and ride safe

@tonymultistrada - showroom guy here in bangalore suggested not to opt limited edition as in future if any parts are damaged it would be difficult to get it replaced.. as the limited edition manufacturing is stopped and u may not get the parts in future.. .I had liked the white and red limited edition so much.. but after thinking for a while i decided to book Sunset ride.. today i booked mine..

                • extra premium for LE - paid 3.5k extra on road for white/red WGP 50th year limited edition, for fiery red i was told by the dealer its 2.5k extra...1k less than white/red.

Ron - i read that the unique number is the number against which the bike is alloted to you by Yamaha, you claim your bike against that number

by the way not sure if i had mentioned - got a milage of 38kms in first 300kms.....going for first service tomorrow with 500 kms on the odo.

                  cheers,
                  Binesh

                  • Hello guys,

I am an ZMA owner for the past 6 years and and happy one
but 6 years is a really long time and with a plethora of options available in the market today i am considering the new R15 v2.0 as my next ride

                    now i am 6'3" and 82kgs
and i find ZMA THE best ride for the above mentioned specs.

now i have taken a test ride (although a short one ) of the R15 v2.0 and found it fairly comfortable and near about same performance as my ZMA
but i am confused about how the bike would affect my wrists and spine in long rides

Also i had a bit of trouble with upshifting gears as the toe shifter is a bit too high for my toes, but the salesman said it can be lowered to a comfortable height, is it true??

Also i have heard that the tires on yamaha bikes tend to wear out very early, is it true??

So guys based on the above, what do you suggest, should i go for it????????
i am growing old, but not up!

                    • @abhash

From my experience, which can be purely individual point of view, if you are a tourer and enjoy long distance now and then...The R15 V2 unfortunately is not a good choice. The aggressive posture will affect your neck and back, the most. The wrist pain however goes off with time. The weight of the helmet causes real agony on my neck after say about 300km in a stretch.

But of all persons, you can make the best decision on what is best for you. Take your time and listen to your heart.

                      • Update !

Been in-active for sometime now. Anyways,

Clocked about 2000km since my purchase in Dec 2011. Not so much mile munching afterall. The bike is trouble-free. Not a hint of problems in any department. Enjoying the rev-happy nature of the engine. And i think the mileage is good enough. Haven't checked it properly though.

That said, on the highways i find the numbers thrown out by the bike to be a bit boring (purely individual). 130kmph was all that i could max out. This was on ECR with moderate cross-winds. Lets see if it churns out any higher figures minus the cross-winds. Thing is, i need a bigger bike. Lets see. Maybe next year.

And sorry, i am a bit crossed out here..! Potential buyers of R15 v2 LE...You are the reason why i am so !

When you buy a bike, you dont think in the lines "oh will i get the spare parts when i crash..??" This is so negative. Please don't think in such a way. Just buy the bike and enjoy the ownership. Just hope that you don't crash and wear your protective gear. BIKES HAVE SPARE PARTS ! BIKERS DON'T !

I'm 5 ft 10in and I didnt have any trouble in getting adjusted with seating posture for long..back pain was there in initial 1000kms only...i've been on quite a long distance trips on her till now and enjoyed every bit of it..no uncomfortability in long rides as well..
Initially gear shifting was difficult but its good now..Yes toe shifter can be lowered but only a little not as much as we want to ou comfort..
At 5000 on th odo, tires are perfectly the same..its more on how you use that wear and tear depends on...
Take a test ride and if you find comfortable go for it...a perfecr piece of engineering it is..

Well, it seems it isn't a comfortable ride but if you are a regular tourer and the roads you are going to ride on are smooth, then it is not at all an issue. Though, some wrist pain might be there in intial days.
Have done 500 Km + single day ride on the machine and i was still a happy guy before going to bed.

Regarding tyre's, R15 uses soft compound tyres which, yes ,wear more quickly then the regular ones but its way too good in terms of grip.
                                So, i'll say 'worth'.
