served well. now v2 is running on motul from 1100 kms onwards, i see no reason why she will get a taste of yamalube again.
Regarding v1, when the bike was launched they used to put mineral oil so maybe the interval was short

But later they introduced ss oil , but maybe the interval of 1500 stuck.

Mineral in R15 ? Nope. I had brought R15 back in '09 when it was launched and they used to put SS oil in it from the start.

      Ride safe and have fun.

But the metal on metal scrapping noise post 6k rpm is still bothering me. I followed the owners manual break in. I expected the smoothness to settle in post 1000 kms , but i am still not satisfied. It would be nice if someone can clarify about the exact nature of the r15 engine. I did redline her a few times post 1000 km just to make sure i dont baby her.
brother, the engine run in process does not end at 1000Kms. The engine keeps polishing and smoothing itself for about 3-4k Kms. Be patient and enjoy your ride, it will eventually smooth out. The good thing is that now that first 1000 kms are over, you are free to rev the engine and unleash its true potential. Remember, the engine is still new and will still be harsh sometimes for about 3000kms. Happy mile munching.Ride safe.

+1 on that. Mine v1 was 2009 too. And it got S's treatment from first service. Though I believe 1 was launched in 2008. No worries, doesn't matter

          +1 on this too.

So 3200 kms done, took off from work today, wasn't feeling well, but got better by the time I decided to give her the second service today .

no doubts any more. It was to be done at home again. I had some confusion about changing the oil,but decided to change it anyways, motul 300v,
chain lubed and cleaned( I had adjusted it about 500 kms back to 25-35 mm slack and it's holding along with the clutch slack of 10-15 mm.).
Did some greasing of clutch wire plus side stand.
Put new oil filter and air filter again.
Most important thing was the tappet adjustment. It had to be done. I'll be honest, I work on enfield and pulsar tappet all the time but never on tried it on my v1. She actually never needed it. But I wouldn't have been satisfied until i checked the valve clearance on this one myself. Only hesitation I had was about the 4 valve setup. But thankfully it wasn't that complicated. Only issue was that on this one the access is very restricted.
The entire upper cowl/fairing had to be removed and even than it wasn't easy.

That is the new O2 sensor I believe, I don't remember seeing this on v1, the one in the background, the brown one on top of the exhaust outlet

The most important tool. The two strips show .10 mm for inlet and .20 for outlet

This is where things got interesting, the clearance on inlet was around .09 mm so I decided not to touch them. But there was no clearance on exhaust valve, barely about .05 mm. Manual says .20 - .24 mm. So adjusted to .20 mm. Idling is better now. Engine was seeming peppier on the short test ride. Rest of the story will unfold on the way to work tomorrow.

Also the yamalube SS literally became unusable after 2k kms, somebody on free service please share their views on this
It seems the oil isn't suited for the drain interval Yamaha is recommending.

I don't experience any trouble at all, using the engine oil till 3000km

Is it okay to use an after market air filter for the new R15.The 2014 edition comes with closed loop FI and also an O2 sensor,so introducing a new air filter might not alter the air-fuel mixture to the engine.Throw some light on this topic guys

Aftermarket airfilter for a lower end bike isn't worth it except for the more noise (can't call sound or voice because single cylinders don't sound awesome on aftermarket filters). Airfliter's functionality also covers the quality of air going in. As you said, R15 has closed loop FI and O2 sensor which is good tech addition. The problem may pop up with the health of the engine after some good number of kms on odo with not so nice air goes in freely.

There have been instance where people have been very happy with aftermarket filters but there do exist some instances where the engine got screwed - not because of rich/lean mixture, but because of the impurities that go into the combustion chamber.

+1 to the above post, there will be no noticeable increase in power with after market filters.
All it will do is increase the noise, and make you an easy target for the cops to pick on you.

I got to the core of the front fork noise today. Please enlighten me if you also face this 'issue'. Took bike out and in stationary position applied front brakes vigorously and recorded it. The sound was something mechanical and felt as if there was less oil inside. Similar sound like a water pump used in villages.

Is this common? Whats the fix?

Creaking sound from the front fork is common. I have it in mine and my friend's brand new one also has it.

It sounds as if there is no oil in the forks. Why so?

what would be the upper safe kms limit for chain lubrication?
in the manual its mentioned 500kms, but its difficult for me to adhere to that limit as the service station is far away, its been 800kms since i got the chain lubricated.

In rainy season I lube it within 300kms, 500kms interval is fine otherwise. Motul lube stays up to 500kms. You can lube the chain yourself, with a center stand it becomes so easy.

could you please tell me, which bike's center stand do you use, is it a perfect fit?
I move my bike a bit forward, lube the chain that is visible then repeat till every link is lubed, but having a center stand would help a great deal.
Also may i know the price of the stand..
                              Thanks in advance.
