If oil changes are regular and of good quality you won't need it before 50k kms.

Hello friends, my bike just came back from it's 4th free service!
It has undergone tappet adjustment and the other general checkups.
But after that my bike is shutting down by itself whenever I pull the clutch for slowing down the bike. It behaves normally once when it crosses a good amount of kms, i.e 2-3 kms! But I do warm up the engine after every cold start! Till date it hasn't happened like this!
I think they've set the idle RPM very low... Please spread some light on this friends..
And also what is the normal idle RPM when the engine is well warmed up?

Yeah it is the minimum amount of rpm.....keep it around 1500 rpms and your bike will rock...

            • Yamaha R 15 Version 2 Engine trouble warning light- yellow light in ODO

              Hello Everyone!

I got my R 15 version 2 serviced and after a week the orange light - engine trouble warning light started glowing constantly. There was no blinking in any pattern, just it comes up for around 8 to 10 seconds and then goes off.

This occurs after every interval of time and only when the engine is in running state.

Has anyone faced this problem with their bike too?

Yamaha service personnel are unable to rectify this issue as they are not getting the error code captured in the ECU as what I got conveyed, and it has been 3 months since this started to which I got my bike serviced twice and the issue still persists.

              Please suggest.

Just came back from a 5000 kms roadtrip from my hometown to manali on my R15.

                What I Liked:-

                1) Build Quality:-
The bike went on some really bad patches but not even once I heard any rattling or squeaking noise from parts all these while.

                2) Ride Quality:-
The bike was rock solid even on triple digit speeds and the handlebars weighs well as the speed rises.

                3) Engine:-
Honestly i never felt out of power, overtakes were comfortably done and the engine always remained butter smooth. Post 8k rpm is where the exhaust note is too awesome.

                4) Attention Seeker:-
The bike definitely gathers too much attention. I had a few instances where people turned their head on road and also when at traffic signal people silently notice the bike. [emoji23][emoji7]

                What could have been better:-

                1) Braking:-
There were times when I almost missed speed bumps and had to brake hard but the bike takes a bit time to come to an halt. I wish ABS could have been available at least as an option.

                2) Stock Headlamps:-
Honestly the stock headlamps really suck. If you're planning for touring on R15 get some projectors or aux led lights.

Overall completely satisfied with the bike and will definitely plan for more trips on it.

But the service interval for the bike is 3000kms, right? How did you manage with that?

                    Hello Everyone.

I own a 2013 R15 V2 which has done about 17000 kms. Off late after a recent service done about 500 kms back, I feel the performance of the bike has gone down. The throttle response is sluggish, engine feels strained and the bike doesn't feel eager to go past speeds of 85-90 kmph. The vibrations too are prominent on the footpegs at such speeds.

Engine oil as well as oil filter were changed during the last service in my presence and the injector too was opened up and cleaned.

I got the issue checked at SVC again later and they stated the chain sprockets need to be changed. Could all this be due to only chain sprockets gone bad or there could be more to it?

From what I have experienced, I feel the technicians at SVCs here are not competent enough to service and diagnose issues with R15s and hence I did not take their verdict blindly. Hence posting here to seek inputs on what all would need a check to improve the performance.

                    Thanks in advance.

You can check your sprockets physically and verify

That's really weird for any R15 with 17K KMs only. I'd suspect and check below things first -

                        - Quality of Petrol. (Happened with my FZ back in 2009-10, poor quality Petrol f@cked the pick up)
                        - What engine oil? If its same FS Yamalube, then okay.
                        - Fuel injector has already cleaned up, so that's okay.
                        - Chain sprockets as suggested by the SVC, good chances they need replacement.
                        - The chain itself - too loose/too tight/rusted (?)
                        - Tyres health?
                        - Disk pads rubbing against the plates?

Other more knowledgeable members should be in a better position to add more things.

                        Regards.

Before starting the trip I fed her Fully Synthetic drink from Motul which lasts for about 4k-5k but i got them drained after about 4.2k kms and fed the bike another liter.

What all did you do back then to sort out the issue after it was caused due to poor quality of fuel?

Regarding chain sprockets, how to figure out whether they have gone bad? Any pointers on this will be very helpful. There isn't much of a play in chain when inspected closely so I assume the setting isn't too tight or too loose.

I remember the SVC guy cleaning up the tank and carb.

The sprockets will show sign of wear. The rear one is visible to us but for checking front sprocket, SVC guy's help will be needed.

                                Hello All,

I am new to this forum and a big fan of this thread.
I am planning on purchasing the Yamaha R15 v2 or R15S depending on how the test rides go.
Before i take the plunge i have some questions which if answered will help me in taking a much better decision.
                                1. Is there any news on whether if Yamaha will launch an updated R15 V2/S model(by new model i mean new colors/ some cosmetic/mechanical updates before launching the v3)
                                2. Is is worth buying the R15 v2/S now or should i wait for the R15 V3? I know that it has already been released in Indonesia but wanted to know when it will be released in India.
                                3. I am staying in Bangalore and would like someone to advise me on which Yamaha Showrooms are good, both for purchasing and for servicing. I did search the thread but couldn't get any relevant info on this.
                                4. How do i find out the manufacturing month and year of the bike? I did do a Google search for this and found out that the 10th digit in the VIN number is for the year. Any way to find out the month of manufacturing?

                                Please help.
