I haven't read about any problems using 300V. If anyone knows anything - please say.
Hm, I'm not an expert, but could the clutch problem be because of something else as well?
Have you asked the guys at SC if they can try to fix it, and if they can't then it's probably the oil.

BTW, in your experience, is engine any smoother with 300V or the only difference to 7100 is that it runs cooler?

Bro When was the last you changed your CLUTCH cable ,It could be the life of your clutch cable thats may be pushed to the limit.try replacing it.
it should go butter smooth after replacing or...try adjusting the clutch

mech says everything is fine. It became even harder in this service after changing the oil, that's what caught my attention. I will be going to the SVC (Banjara Hills KTM) tomorrow afternoon and have them look at it again.

About the oil, i really didn't do any rides nor did i ride hard with 7100 to tell the exact difference. From what i noticed, engine runs a lot cooler and smoother. Oil still didn't loose its color completely when it was drained at around 4k kms. I was babying the bike most of the times and did only 2 * 150kms and 550kms highway ride relined during this 4k kms. And both were in summer.

I never changed the cable. I had a small crash in a track and the lever kit got bent. So changed the entire assy. But it was hard from the 2nd service on when i started using 300V. If nothing seems wrong, i will try changing the cable as u suggested and see.

BTW, my bike is at 9.4k kms right now and its only 7 and half month old. So i highly doubt its the cable. But hey, anything can happen with these modern day bikes unlike the older ones

Personally 300V is an overkill for most Indian bikes with sub 500CC. Reason being two, first they are costly apart from that there is a reason why they are being used in racing. Racing is HEAT and heck of it. And not all ordinary fully synthetic oil can do justice to parts moving at incredibly high speed at where every second matters. As these oil are used they are used for engines that have a half life 10X lesser than our ordinary motorcylcle.

That's where the 7100 comes in, a blend of esters and everything nice and to not pinch ones pocket and it's the best oil one can get for the moolah we spend on it.

300V is just 100% overkill for our bikes. Using it in my bike I don't see any difference whatsover from 7100 or the 5100 when I used them both.

Even a friend of mine owning the CB1000RR uses 7100 in his 12lakh motorcycle and whereby I use 300V for my 1L motorcycle.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

          • My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience

I recently bought myself my first bike. I know it sounds laggy but in my 24 years on the planet i never owned a bike which i could call mine! After years of riding begged, borrowed and stolen bikes(joking) i finally bought my own bike with my own sweat and money. And it is so satisfying to know that my first ever owned bike would be no other than the MIGHTY WHITE DUKE 200 !!!

I finally opened gates on the 30th of June i.e. 3 weeks back and since then happiness has had no limits. Every morning i get up with one greed: My seductress.I have completed 1300kms in 19 days and hence you can see i took my time to analyse the bike.

I would be writing a short review on the duke according to my experience. Lets start off with the pros and cons.

            Pros:

            Technical -

            1. Awesome pick up. I havent timed it yet but once the signal goes green i cant see anyone behind me through the RVM. It being faster than the CBR 250R too at pick up is seriously awesome.
            2. Fuel Injection (for better fuel efficiency, no headache over carb problems and perfect usage of the fuel).
            3. Noise from the exhaust which is like a 2-stroke bike.
            4. Digital console showing almost all the things one could imagine for better riding.
            5. Radiator to keep the temperature from going crazy due to the monstrous engine.

            Design-

            1. Wide handle bar for better control.
            2. Wide tyres which give better grip.
            3. Styling. An alien, or for some, a futuristic robobike from the front and a naked rear showing its awesome wide rear tyre.
            4. A sexy tail number plate light throwing its blue all over the place.
            5. Powerparts, which makes this bike a true tunable bike kicking other indian bikes out of the league.
            6. The pillion seat is too small which is a big advantage if you have a girl sitting behind (She'll have to forcefully stick to you hard and sit)

            Miscellaneous-

            1. It is a rare gem on the roads
            2. It is KTM. not any ordinary Indian bike

            Cons:

            1. Engine heats up a lot though and you can feel it under your thighs, especially in traffic.
            2. Coolant cap is so easily visible that one can tamper with it.
            3. I had a lot of problem with the gear shift. The gear gets stuck when between 2 gears when riding hard which kicks the rpm to redline for a second and i dont like it. I showed it to the service technician and he rode it but says everything's fine (I cant believe there's a problem with my riding!).
            4. During rains the front tyre spoils the radiator fins and the rear tyre unfortunately splashes water all over the rear and sides of the bike making it very dirty.
            5. Engine stalls many times and it sucks.
            6. The tyres could have been better. It has just been 3 weeks and i had a puncture too!!!
            7. The pillion seat is too small for your mom or dad to sit behind.
            8. The seats are on the harder side. It hurts your bums after a while.
            9. Powerparts are costly although spare parts are at a reasonable price.
            10. This is the BIGGEST ONE: IT HAS A BLOODY SPEED LIMITER! Without it the bike would run even more faster!

That is all I could think of right now. That was about pros and cons. Now i would like to talk about my experience with my White Cheetah.

First about my decision to buy the Duke:

I would like to thank xBhp a lot for its support in helping me to decide which bike to buy. I was confused between the pulsar 200Ns and the KTM duke 200 (though my heart always said KTM! but i was thinking about the price as my budget was low). I was almost about to buy the 200NS but a friend in my gym stopped me one day and told me, "Dude, forget about your budget, if you're going for a loan then 1lac or 1.5 lac would not make that much big of a difference. Just imagine, buy investing 50k more you would be in AUSTRIA!" He was right. i thought about it and the whole attention changed from Pulsar to Duke. I researched day and night, read reviews on xbhp, teambhp, zigwheels, autos.maxabout, and many other places. Finally i jumped up and came to a rockstrong decision. I WOULD BUY THE KTM DUKE 200 OR I WOULD NOT BUY ANY BIKE! I swore on it and stuck to it. And here today i have the duke finally!

            Loan procedure:

Once my decision was crystal clear and all doubts out of the window, i started talking to banks and finance providers for a loan. I finally went to a ktm showroom in lajpat nagar and applied for a loan from bajaj finance but it got rejected for s illy reason. I dont know how they even considered it as a reason to reject my application. I had provided them with my bank statements of 2 different banks as i had joined this company in jan and they had opened my new bank account which was just 2 months old and the bajaj guys needed bank stamtents of atleast 3 months so i had provided previous bank's statements too and also my previous company's offer letter. They rejected my application on the basis that I had worked in previous company for only 3 months! I explained them that i had to leave it as the company was not paying enough and calling employees to work all 7 days a week and stuff and that i fell sick but still they didnt listen. It was very unprofessional. Then i went to another showroom who helped me to apply with my own bank (HDFC) and the loan procedure was done in 1 day and in 2 days i got the loan approval message! (that too only cozs i had applied on friday and sunday they dont work). My experience with HDFC was awesome! Let me not forget that i did not have a permanent residential proof so the HDFC guy even arrange for an LIC so i could use the bond paper as a local address proof. In the end, the guy called me on monday and asked me to come to the showroom and get the bike. I was so happy...Finally i was just 2kms away from my bike!

            The buying procedure:

I could not go to buy the bike on Monday as i would get the needed cash on friday so i postponed it till the next sunday (Trust me it was very difficult to wait). The week passed and came sunday morning. I had slept early on saturday just to get up and go buy my bike! I got ready fast and fled to the showroom with a friend. I called the HDFC guy too when i reached the showroom. He came and we did all the paper work fast, but there was a problem. They needed a permanent address proof too for the bike registration. We have been NRIs so i had no permanent proof too but he came up with a solution and we finally got the whole thing done. I sat on my bike, went to the bajaj showroom for the payment and insurance and within an hour over there, i was given the keys!!!!!!! Not just that but i also got a studds helmet from them! I sat on the bike and asked the KTM showroom manager, "You want a lift?" he laughed and said "Ab toh aap bike waale ho gaye ho, please drop me to my showroom". After that i immediately refilled it with Xtra Premium to tank full and off to a temple. I had a priest do all the swastiks and all, gave him Rs.201 and off to gym to show friends and stuff.

            Experience upto 1000kms:

The first 1000kms are the most difficult for a new bike buyer (even more for a premium bike buyer) as you have 1000 restrictions. Check your rpm, check your speed, check this, check that. But the patience really pays off once you're done with the first servicing. During the firs 400 kms i took extreme care to not let the rpm go beyond 5000. I used to come back from office every night and go for a long ride covering atleat 50-60 kms till 1am-2am. After 3-4 days i happened to visit the service centre to get some doubts cleared out. The service technician Mr. Asif Khan explained me everything in details and i was almost satisfied. I thought that i was losing air pressure every day from the tyres but when he checked it was all fine. Also the front disc would give some wierd kirking sound but he said that's normal too. He set the rpm for me and asked me to not go beyond 7500rpm and i was delighted. After that i kept riding and riding but this time a little faster. In the first 400 kms i didnt go beyond 60-65kmph but now i pushed till 80kmph. The onboard mileage i could see on city rides was around 45kmpl but on highways it was well above 50. You wont believe but i reached 63 kmpl too! But please note that was at an almost constant speed of 50-55kmph. I took some pics to prove it too. The next 300 kms were smooth too with a little push to 90kmph at times. During this time it rained twice(i rode it in the rain too) and i noticed some changes. My bike started making a tweaking noise whenever the tyre would roll or even when i would move the bike's handle left and right. I did not visit the service centre as i had to go for the 1st servicing anyways. Between 400kms to 1000kms i went to gurgaon twice covering almost 100kms each time where i rode fast. a couple of time even went upto the 100kmph mark but still below 7500rpm. Finally it was friday and 950kms done. I asked the service guys if i could avail the free service even if i go beyond 1000kms. They said 50kms more than 1000kms is fine but not more than that. So i went to office, then gurgaon for a party and came back late. next morning it was servicing time and i rushed straight away. I was called at 9am but i went late. Around 1pm. There were too many bikes there and i was either asked to come on sunday or keep the bike there. I chose to keep it there to check if they were trustworthy (my bike's under warranty so i can go back anytime if they do something wrong).

            1st service:

I had asked the service guys to call me to the service station before starting the servicing procedure as i wanted to personally see how and what all they do. I stood there, watched the guy change the oil, oil filter, etc. I had some questions and the service technician Sachin was really helpful. They helped me out with all the knowledge i asked for and then left in 1 and a half hours. I am not satisfied though as i couldnt see them doing much with the bike. Even the guy who washes bikes did not wash it well. I had to hence stand over his shoulders and get it done my way. Anyways, with a semi-satisfied heart i left with the bike and paid Rs.1751 for the oil (Motul 4t 7100 20W50). I would need to go to the guys again for some more work on my bike.

            After 1st service:

I took the bike and went to my weekend workplace where i spend the whole day and at night took my bike to the petrol station where i filled it upto tank full with 93 Octane this time. I noticed one thing after the 1st servicing. The mileage dropped a lot. Where i used to see 40kmpl earlier i see 25kmpl now and where i saw 55kmpl earlier i now see only 41-42kmpl. It is disheartening. Although i noticed one thing. Earlier i had to refill every 3rd day but now i went upto 6 days! I ride it only to and fro office and then gym now instead of long highway rides but still, it seems the mileage is getting better. I dont know what's going on. anyways now i ride fast and the pick up is AWESOMATICULOUS! Now i need a better HELMET to meet the speeds! I clocked upto 134kmph once and that was the only time when i took it to limits or else i only play with its acceleration. Its so fast that twice the rear tyres rolled on a burnout once when i tried a stylish pickup and once in traffic while trying to overtake some cars suddenly. The bike wobbled left and right and i was like F*cK m gonna fall. But notorious me, i just could stop the bike. I released the accelerator and the moment the tyres caught the road's surface with a grip again i started accelerating! Though i later thanked God for not letting me fall. God's Great. I have clocked 1286kms now and moving on!!!

I am so obsessed with the bike, so busy riding it (and dreaming about riding it when not riding it) that i havent spoken to my girlfriend since last week after a fight. This is natural with everyone but here i didnt even feel like calling her

Wow, i cant believe i wrote all this while sitting in office. Now you can imagine how obsessed i am about my White Cheetah. I like calling it Laila though as it is seductive.

Damn, now i gotta log out and need to go to the petrol pump as tomorrow and the day after there would be no HDFC transactions due to some upradation they're going through. And i fill petrol with my card only.

I hope my experience with this monster helps someone who is confused about buying it or not. I'll keep posting here.

Btw, xBhp rocks! Looking forward for a G2G!

Very true, But here in hyd the cost difference between both 7100 & 300V is hardly 140rs. will use 300V only in summers hence forth unless i find any other way of keeping the engine cool.

BTW, I have used 300V for almost 50k kms on my 0.67L rs RTR, forget about 1L rs P220 :P

                      I would disagree.
It doesn't really matter if the engine is 50 cc or 5,000 cc - it matters more how that engine works and how it's ridden.
300V is simply a finer oil which is suitable for more precise and high revving engines, regardless of cc. Heck, there are 50 cc high revving and high power engines that are faster than our Dukes.
In a same way, there are 1000 cc engines that are low revving, not a performance engines, and they don't need a fine oil such as 300V.
And it also depends how you use your bike - if you're riding a high revving 1000 cc engine only in low and mid rpms then yeah, you could get by with using a 7100. But if your friend is riding his CBR 1000 the way that bike is supposed to be ridden then he would be MUCH better off with 300V than 7100.

Duke has a high revving engine, unfortunately limited to "only" 10,500 rpm (it could easily rev much higher), and IF ridden often in higher rpms, then, in my opinion, 300V would be more suitable than 7100. But 7100 is more than ok as well. And if you're riding mostly in low and mid rpms then probably no need to go for 300V.
And as the above post says, the difference in price between 300V and 7100 isn't much...

                      Good to know!
So it's not the 300V? Does that mean you're not switching to 7100?
I'll definitely switch to 300V the next time I do oil change. I'll actually change it sooner than needed, just to put it in. I could definitely use some cooler and smoother running engine! I ride my Duke much more in high rpms so 300V makes sense for me.

I'll definitely switch to 300V the next time I do oil change. I'll actually change it sooner than needed, just to put it in. I could definitely use some cooler and smoother running engine! I ride my Duke much more in high rpms so 300V makes sense for me.
Ya, its not the 300V. Changing back to 7100 depends upon my usage. If its very less i'll switch to 7100. But next service would easily take another 3-4 months for me

Guys, i dont know what's wrong. I had written all this in office and paragraphed things properly and neatly. In fact, very very neatly. Once i checked it thoroughly, i posted it and left for the day. I had posted this somewhere else which was moved here instead.

I just logged in now after friday and i'm shocked to see this. Its all such a mess. I would be deleting this entire post now and would repost it. I have to. It is just not worth reading this way!

                            ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
