Re: My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience
*raises hand*Originally posted by onlinesatish View PostSO how many of you here are using Motul 300V in you duke?
300V comes in 2 different grades. I have been following this thread since page 100 or so and I don't remember anyone complaining about 300V at all (apart from service managers).Originally posted by Edd View PostThe thing is 300v does not fall under recommended oil grade. Its a 10W40 grade oil and recommended is 20W50.
If you search this thread, you'll see some members having problem with servicing after using 300v.
300V is good for lesser number of kilometers when compared to 7100, it's more expensive as well, but it runs a lot cooler and a fraction smoother.Originally posted by chinmayakar View PostI read somewhere 300V is for highwer spec bikes. Motul 7100 is the one to go for in Duke. 7100 is good enough as it is one of the best Fully Synthetic Oils available. I had enquired about 300 V before changing oil, but opted for 7100 after reading reviews online, where major opinion is to stick to 7100.
I changed back from 300V to 7100 on my previous service (auto service, bsk did not have 300V in stock) and I do not like it one bit. I'm going to take my own can of 300V to the service center when I go this time.Originally posted by splus View PostI've read before some people saying their engine run cooler and smoother with 300V, which makes sense because it's a finer oil. I wanted to switch to it but I had half a liter of 7100 from previous service, and that's what I put now for next couple of months. I'm still thinking to put 300V at next oil change.
I haven't read about any problems using 300V. If anyone knows anything - please say.Bajaj Pulsar 150 : 2004-2005

Re: My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience
I have ordered KTM 200 Duke and I just wanted to check few things from you folks. I thought of going through the threads before asking this question but never mind, if this is already answered:-
1. Fuel Type - Unleaded Premium 95 RON (I need to check if this is available in Chennai)
2. Breaking Period (Running In) - Procedures
3. Oil - I am seeing in the KTM threads (in KTM BLogs) that they use Mineral Oil for Breaking In period and not synthetic oil. Also, what about the service quality in Chennai after nearly 1 1/2 years of serving KTM Customers.
4. Do we really need a exhaust for 200? Because sometimes Chennai roads gets water logged and is there a danger that water may accidentally forces through the unprotected or little elevated echaust?
Also, I am seeing tons of accessories in the KTM Website but in Chennai showroom does not have anything like Side Box etc... - very clean and sleek.
Thanks in advance.Last edited by Ramchi; 07-22-2013, 03:00 PM.No Gold for coming second

1. Fuel Type - Use RoN 91 petrol i.e normal petrol. For the run in period use premium petrol like Speed. After run in, u may use normal petrol for most of the time with premium petrol once a month.Originally posted by Ramchi View PostI have ordered KTM 200 Duke and I just wanted to check few things from you folks. 2. Breakin period - Run with revs limited to 7500rpm. Let the bike stand for 3 minutes after turning ignition on and before turning ignition off. After breakin change time to 1 minute.
3. Oil - Use the normal mineral Oil from bajaj for 1st service. Change to synthetic Oil on second service. Recommended Motul 7100.
4. Exhaust - Additional exhaust not required.
KTM accessories are expensive and hard to find. You can buy other brands like Cramster saddlebags if you really require them.

Re: My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience
Well the choice is yours. Its just advisable to use premium petrol as they have special additives which act as "detergent" for bike internals. Helps keep the FI system clean and stuff. During the run in period its better to provide the bike with best there is.Originally posted by wallpapers123 View PostI have been using normal RoN 91 in my running period..300KMs to go for 1st servicing..

I am personally using Regular fuel which is NOT 91 ron, but 87, which is common for all regular fuels. All premium fuels except Speed 93(which is 93 ron) and Speed 97(which is 97 ron) are 91 ronOriginally posted by Edd View Post1. Again the same thing, Regular or Normal fuel in our country is 87 ron, not 91.Originally posted by wallpapers123 View PostI have been using normal RoN 91 in my running period..300KMs to go for 1st servicing..

This here is not exactly and perfectly true. Skoda says to all its petrol customers not to use ANY premium fuels, they are a waste of money and wont really help in any way, this is official from authorized dealers and company. The same goes for all premium fuels, they really aren't that much different from the regular fuel, you you really want a better fuel, the fuel your bike deserves, get the Speed 97, that's what my Pulsar runs on but not my D200.Originally posted by Edd View PostWell the choice is yours. ALL fuels in India are RON 91, regular and premium. That's by law, government regulations. Fuels lower than RON 91 aren't allowed on road, and dealers (as usual) will never know what fuels are what RON.
Premium fuels only have additives compared to regular.
I personally can feel a difference in my Duke, premium runs smoother at lower rpms than regular. But no premium where I live, has been discontinued for some time, so I'm order to use regular.
But when I did a service the other day they changed my fuel filter and said it was very dirty.
I talked to the service guy, and I'll be changing the fuel filter from now on at EVERY service. What to do, that's the only "solution" to the fuel problem...

Re: My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience
As splus said, all petrol types in India are RON 91 (Except for Speed 93 and 97 as you mentioned). There is just one company in India that still provides RON 87 (whose name I do not remember, but Bharat Petroleum and HP both have RON 91. I am mentioning them as they are the major players in petrol franchisee in India).Originally posted by abhayshanu View PostI am personally using Regular fuel which is NOT 91 ron, but 87, which is common for all regular fuels. All premium fuels except Speed 93(which is 93 ron) and Speed 97(which is 97 ron) are 91 ron

And premium fuels do have certain additives that help keep the internals clean. Premium fuels do not give any rise in performance, but merely help in "cleaning" keeping your machine running smoothly for long. They are specially useful for FI systems. However, regularly using the Premium fuel is waste of money and that's why I mentioned to use it once a month.
Speed 97 is a waste of money too even for your Pulsar. Even the Duke 390 will be better off with Speed 93. Speed 97 will ignite late and will require more pressure to be built up before igniting and here won't be any change in performance. However, if you were to use RON 87, it will ignite earlier and produce a "knock" degrading the performance and may even damage your bike.
To sum it up, RON 91 is optimum fuel for D200. Premium RON 91 will help "clean" the internals. (But use it only once a month to avoid wasting money)

Re: My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience
Hi friends,
Took delivery of the Duke 200 yesterday. I live in Srinagar so got it delivered from Jammu (300 kms away). Had a 20 km ride from the showroom to my home and really loved the power delivery of the bike... its awesome
.
I had previously owned a Yamaha R15 for 3 years but sold it recently. My only gripe with the duke is that it runs very hot compared to the R15 (which I had thought ran hot compared to other bikes).
Now, I am really curious if this happens during the initial some hundred kms of the run-in period or is this the character of the bike?
Also, will changing the motor oil regularly ( read 100, 400, 1000 km on the odo) help ease the heat?

Yes It tends to get hot soon, its the Character of the bike.
I Guess not, the heat generated has not changed even after moving to Motul Oil. But it should not be a problem for you (As am using it here in Chennai Climate).Originally posted by PzZulqar View PostAlso, will changing the motor oil regularly ( read 100, 400, 1000 km on the odo) help ease the heat?

It tends to be hotter in the break in period. Just change the oil during servicing. Nothing to worry about.Originally posted by PzZulqar View PostHi friends,

Re: My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience
It is by law to have a minimum of 91 ron in Bharat III cities, but in Bharat II, lower rating can be used. I have a few links to support this, I will link it at the end.Originally posted by splus View PostThis is not true.

Again, not everywhere. I will agree that I was not updated with RON ratings of today and as I said Bharat III cities run 91 ron as standard, but our Bharat II cities run RON 88. I was wrong, but not completely I guess. Here are 2 links from IOCL and BPOriginally posted by Edd View PostAs @splus said, all petrol types in India are RON 91 (Except for Speed 93 and 97 as you mentioned). Re: My KTM Duke 200 (White) review-cum-experience
Yeah, it'll run hotter during the run in period than later, but it's still quite hotter than other bikes. No worries, it's normal. Fan should kick in one bar below top of the lower part of temp meter. As always with liquid cooling bikes - it's recommended not to turn off the bike if the fan is running. Wait until it stops and drops the temp.Originally posted by PzZulqar View PostHi friends,

It would be much better if you can change the oil once before the service. All the metal particles from the new engine accumulate inside and after 400-500 km on odo you can feel the engine becoming heavier with less power if you don't change the oil.
Changing the oil and oil filter at around 200-300 km should clear those initial metal particles and make the engine breathe much easier.
For best run in results keep the oil mineral (best is Motul 5100) for initial 2000 km and then switch to fully synthetic Motul 7100 or 300V.
