It was bad. since m considering gixxer also, i thought i could decide about the test drive of duke after learning its practical problems as my first bike. so that i can rule out duke if its really clumsy. but now i think i ll have to talk to owners who have been owning duke 200 for longer periods than the people i know.

    thanks.
Do one thing.. read this entire thread (and the 390 thread) from page 1 onwards, it will give you a lot of useful and useless information. You will gain insight in to other peoples experiences.
If you want to know regarding maintenance costs.. then regular spares/maintenance is almost same for both the d390/d200.. though a little higher if you compare it with a pulsar or unicorn.. main reason being the engine oil and its quantity. But its lower compared to a say CBR250R.
Only when you fall out of warranty is that you should be worried about certain components such as the fuel pump, ecu, throttle body which are expensive (again this is going to be the case with any bike that employs these components). In case of a crash, you will be covered by insurance.. and the plastic parts on these bikes (tank, tank cover and panels) are dirt cheap even if you compare it with the 150/200cc bikes (for. eg a karizma's front cowl will cost around 4000rs ) while for the same money you can replace all the panels and the petrol tank on the dukes.
Do go ahead and read from page 1.. the dukes have had their niggles and issues, but have been improved upon. And yes the ABS makes a ton of a difference..if budget and mileage aren't your concern you can pick up the 390, but you gotta be careful with it.. its a monster to those of us who have grown up riding commuter and less 'powerful' bikes.

I recommended d200 since you were worried about maintenance etc. And i wont recommend 390 because its your first bike. The tyres on 200 are much cheaper than that of 390.

From your post, what i.understood is that you need a bigger cc motorcycle. If you can handle it and the fuel efficiency etc go with d390 then.

        Finally its your decision

not exactly. I dont like duke 390 compared to duke 200. i like how light duke 200 is. its compact and suits my body without getting cramped. anyway, thanks a lot

I am new to this thread and experiencing hiccups at around 3.5-4k rpm . I guess their must b issue with fuel injector due to clogging please suggest any fuel additive if available for cleaning injector or I must get it cleaned from KTM service?

Ifftex system G. Ask in any company owned BP bunk. Also check fuel filter.

Duke 200 is the same size as a duke 390. Except for the engine (obviously). Also the 390 is not THAT much heavier than the 200. The difference is very marginal/negligible.

When was the last time the bike was serviced ? This could also be due to a clogged air filter, fuel filter and maybe water in the petrol tank.
For the fuel injector, you can try the system g fuel additive (use recommended dose 1ml per litre of petrol, or maybe a little more say 15ml for 10 litres.. not more).. go thru at least a tankful (250 - 300km)of petrol with this additive. If there is no improvement, head to the svc.
If you do not want to take a risk with it, then simply go to the svc right away.. especially if bike is under warranty.

I have replaced fuel filter today, petrol was leaking through it due to clogging . Still facing same issue. I'll try using additive hope it will work. Thanks

also i face a new problem as well. there is a huge chance that i might re locate for higher studies in a year. so the bike might go waste if i cant be with it. thinking of its resale value, i would be at considerable loss compared to gixxer. so i need to discuss it with the people who are funding the bike, my parents :/

if its just a year, then why not pick up a used d200 ? Try finding one that's under two years old with warranty intact.
and of course, do a few test rides at the asc or friends bike so you know how it performs and if you are buying a used bike you will know how good or bad it is.
If you have the time and patience, then maybe you can get a used p220 (NOT fi version) for around 40-50k .. spend around 12k to fix it up (that will get you a complete engine rebuild, if not it will cost you lesser)and it will be as good as new, and is fun to ride.

m not considering any used bike. also, i dont want to take risk. m a beginner and i dont know if the bike will be in good condition too.

ktm showroom is far away from my place i asked one of my friends to bring the bike to home next week. but he is having academic works and since being sunday, he got the bike home today itself. its raining pretty well here and i took a ride on the bike. i felt it so easy to steer the bike and the bike didnt skid in wet too. only one thing i felt bad is that my knees felt tight under the recessed tank and it kept hitting the plastic whenever i went on a pothole or bump. also i was riding the bike normally and my friend asked me to check the speedo. to my surprise i found that i kept revving it hard :O it was super smooth and i didnt feel it revving hard. he was also graceful to explain all the practical problems he faced with the showroom ppl and maintenance aspects of the bike. another thing i felt bad as a beginner is the frequent gear shifts. thrice i left the bike turn off without changing proper gears when braking hard. i feel this very uncomfortable in the traffic. now i have only one thing left to ride a gixxer and see which feels better. keeping in mind about the cost and other things, i feel i can save a lot of money and spend it on my other wants too. one thing is for sure. duke 200 is a good beginner bike whatsoever
