thanks a ton.Originally posted by s1d View PostIf chain maintenance (i.e. cleaning and lubing) is carried out as recommended in the manual, the chain will easily last 25k km.
My bike has done 18k km in 16 months and the chain looks it will last another 10k easily. Another member @Ajay Vishwanath who rides a rc200 has done i think close to 20k now and is still on stock chain.. he rides faster more often (he rides around a small track and that puts more strain due to frequent acceleration and braking) than me but the key is both of us take good care of the chain. Simply lubrication with gear oil every 500-700km goes a long way in keeping the chain running well.
the bike feeling sluggish at 10k km is not true if the chain is in normal condition.
Sure shot of way of ruining the chain is when you:
1. neglect lubrication and the chain runs dry
2. riding in dirt often and not keeping the chain clean and lubed
3. Improper chain adjustment.. it's better to have the chain a little lose than too taut. A few mechs do end up adjusting it too taut. refer to the manual and check the chain tightness and adjusted accordingly. If you are a heavy person, say over 75kgs.. i'd say let the chain be a couple of mm more lose since it will tighten up when you sit on the bike. And don't adjust the chain if its not necessary. Simply fiddling with it is not necessary. I've had my chain adjusted 4 times thus far.
4. riding like a maniac neglecting the above 3 points.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hello everyone
This is my first post on xbhp , I bought Duke 200 in January after going through all the duke 200 posts on xbhp. It's so fun to ride and gives me lot of confidence to ride.
I did 450Km long ride (Chennai to thiruvannamalai) before first service and did 900Km ride (Chennai to Yercaud) after my first service.
Went through bad roads best roads with the pillion in the back its just fun to ride in any road.
Except one minor issue in my yercaud trip I am hearing screeching sound when I apply rear brake and I hear the same screeching sound from the front when I go on bad roads. Any help here ?
I am new to bikes so any DIY suggestions like chain lubing will be appreciated.
I bought motul chain clean and chain lube recently. Yet to try them.
I have added hand guards to my duke.
Service centre changed handle bar and hand grips to D390 except the old model bar end weights are fitted but they aren't of total right fit. I am waiting for the new bar end weights to arrive.

so you didn't maintain your chain and sprocket and even then it lasted for 18k kms.. Thats really amazing..
Mine is just 6.5k kms on odo.. I do lubricate my chain every 600 kms.. And I engine brake a lot ...will my chain last 20k?

Re: KTM 200 Duke
The noise may be due to following reasons..Originally posted by 200Duker1993 View PostHello everyone

1. Dust accumulation on the front shock absorbers.
(Check the suspension play and try to isolate the source first.)
2. Brake pads rubbing against the disk which is normal as it will go away after sometime.
3. Chains will make a "ratchet" like sound.
Do you hear the noise when you are riding solo or with pillion?

Do post some photos of the front rotor, switch gear, dashboard especially the front disc rotor, engine compartment, so that people who would love to see them before deciding, can have their thirst quenched.Originally posted by xplod566 View PostHey guys.just wanted to give you an update.its been 1 day I got the bike.so far Its been good.bike is smooth and power is as we know how Duke is.I did the pdi that @s1d suggested from the signature.its a very good pdi and I didn't find any fault.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END
