Re: KTM 200 Duke
woah woah!! read my post carefully. I said that "the key is both of us take good care of the chain."Originally posted by paradoxr9019 View PostThanks for your input..
so you didn't maintain your chain and sprocket and even then it lasted for 18k kms.. Thats really amazing..
Mine is just 6.5k kms on odo.. I do lubricate my chain every 600 kms.. And I engine brake a lot ...will my chain last 20k?
I religiously have the chain lubed up every 500-700km and that is the secret to its longevity.. and its still not done yet at 18k km. It will easily do another 8-10k km.
Most of the chain lubrication I get done at the svc (because its around the corner for me) and those folks do it for free using used engine oil. Some folks might scorn at the use of used engine oil, but I see no point in spending 500 bucks for a can of branded sprays which last just a few applications. (you get a new chain kit for around 2400rs). I use these cans only when I go on long rides..its just for convenience.
Sometimes at home I do it using good old gear oil along with a spray of nulon grease spray at times.
A lot of people do not understand the o-ring chain construction/concept, the key is to keep the chain (the rubber o-rings specifically) wet lubed
In your case, if you continue to lube it every 500-700km (and adjusted only if necessary) , I don't see why it shouldn't last 20k km at-least.

have both front and rear disc pads removed and rubbed down sandpaper. 10 minute job, ask the svc to do it.
braking efficiency might feel a little less after you rub down the pads, and will become ok after using the brakes a bit.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Made a trip to KTM showroom yesterday evening.
2016 model major noticeable changes-
(1) no head light on/off switch (2) 300mm front disc rotor (3)Latched Rear Disc brake reservoir(Sorry...I do not know how to put it simpler
) (4) New D390 handlebar, knuckle guards are straight fit as per salesman.
Read somewhere that the rear seat assembly has changed, but neither the softness nor the shape of the seat has changed. I thought people were exaggerating, but to be honest, the seat is small and meant for size zero GF's.
And
Rs.1.66 Lakhs OTR Hyderabad, Duke is no more the duke of VFM Bikes.
May be too soon to ask, but how do you find the comfort on the D200 compared to AS200? Esp. the stiffness of the rear shock absorber as many complain in case of AS/NS 200?Originally posted by xplod566 View PostHey guys.just wanted to give you an update.its been 1 day I got the bike.so far Its been good.bike is smooth and power is as we know how Duke is.I did the pdi that @s1d suggested from the signature.its a very good pdi and I didn't find any fault.
Does anyone want any specific info regarding the 2016 model coz I have got it

I took the delivery of the bike tomorrow. The rear sit it's a bit redesigned. After sitting for some time it becomes a little soft.regarding comparison with AS200 I can give u a good comparison as I owned it until yesterday.Originally posted by jetsetgo08 View PostMade a trip to KTM showroom yesterday evening.

AS200 is a brilliant bike and probably the beat bike you can buy until you take duke into account .I had the bike.the engine is an absolute gem.period.it just does whatever you want it to do.but that's when the bikes credit stops.it has so many issues that no SVC in the world can fix all of those.I had a faulty carb, sudden hick in acceleration, console resets itself, bike sways towards left, and the suspension is pretty hard, rear suspension replaced one and still makes a horrible creaking noise, and the awkward position of the rear brake pedal.SVC almost tried everything but couldn't fix most of them.this just destroys the ownership experience of the bike.
If you are thinking of taking as200 there are a ton of pdi checks you need to do but unfortunately most of the as are having issues.if you check the owenrship review you can get a good picture of it.ultimately I had to sell it.the suspension is terribly hard though.I found it to be harder than duke
Coming to vfm well there is no other bike that even comes close to what Duke offers.I was confused a lot as I ultimately shortlisted this and cbr250r.couldn't take 250 r as its tall geared and its almost 1.92 and its phasing out by June.there is no other 200cc bike one can think of at this price range .
If you get a good as200 trust me it's an awesome bike but problem is that its gonna be hard to see any as200 without any issues.
Also one more thing I want to tekk you is that its always better to take an EFI bike rather than carburator.I used carb and I know the pain of using it .new carbs aren't as good as how it used tonne the old times.
Hope this helps....
BTW are you sure the handlebar is from 390 and the guards are a direct fit coz the KTM INDIRANAGAR told me its not and its not the same handlebar as 390Last edited by xplod566; 02-18-2016, 02:24 AM.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
It isn't much different.it has an extra latch on the top and that's about it.doesn't server any purpose.I will try to post some pics tomorrow.Originally posted by s1d View PostDo you have the quotation? i thought it was closer to 1.6 L otr in hyderabad

The lights work in a different fashion than the older dukes I think(this is my 1st Duke I eben rode)
When you keep the key ignition in start then the pilot lamp and the rear brake light is always on with the console light.when you keep the engine kill switch to off then only the switches light up.one has to keep the key ignition to off mode.only thing that bothers me is that I hope this feature doesn't drain much battery.

dont worry, the battery will not drain if you remember to turn the ignition off using the key when you leave it parked. there have been instances of folks who turn off the bike using the kill switch but forget to turn the key to off and leave it overnight.. this drains the battery. normal usage i.e. having the parking/brake lights on during say traffic light stops is not going to negatively affect the battery.
On another note, try not to use the kill switch often.. use the key instead.

Okay will use the key.also the coolant level is a little above minimum.is it okay?and my temperature shows 2 less hear bars from max after driving the bike even for 5 min and it generally doesn't ever go down .BTW engine oil level is fine.I checked it onceOriginally posted by s1d View Posti guess its a small metal clip that hold's the reservoir's cap.. do post a pic.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
relax, its fine.. the bike comes from factory with coolant at slightly over the min mark. it's not an issue.Originally posted by xplod566 View PostOkay will use the key.also the coolant level is a little above minimum.is it okay?and my temperature shows 2 less hear bars from max after driving the bike even for 5 min and it generally doesn't ever go down .BTW engine oil level is fine.I checked it once
the temp guage is divided in to two segments (long one and a short one) and its normal to see two bars shy of the lower segment most of the time (unless you are riding in cold weather) and depending on the way you ride, traffic and airflow it could even fill up the last two bars on the bottom segment. the fan will come on and do its duty.
you should be worried only if you see the high coolant temp or if the fan doesn't come on.

Bro...Thanks for the efforts..looks like you are having hard time typing on the App.
Or still in Duke trance.
Pardon me...but still I could not conclude on how comfortable is Duke compared to AS? You would be the best to say if its worth the extra 60K over AS.
I am not in a hurry to buy, but do not want to suffer with buyer's remorse.
Don't think the handlebar to be the same as D390, but we know how knowledgeable the salesman are.
One more question. Did anyone try NS200 sprockets on D200, to make it cruise friendly? I know it would be very much unlike Duke then, fun robbed from the bike. But just as a trial.

On as200 the legs used to sit too Much back causing ankle pain .yes I thinj its worth it.that was my last bajaj bike .
In Bangalore the AS200 is 1.13 and Duke 2016 is 1.69 lakhs.its worth it according to me.but if you get a good as200 without any issues at all then as200 is a rock solid vfm bike.
Regarding sprockets jbm_guy can help you a lot.Last edited by xplod566; 02-18-2016, 04:45 PM.

The Service center people are saying the sound is because of dirt. they fixed it using the same sandpaper method. try keeping the front disc clean.Originally posted by 200Duker1993 View PostSure I will do that is it normal to have this noises in new bike that too with in 3000Km of riding ? Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi guys,
I am interested to buy duke 200 within 1-2 month. I am a college goer and after so many years, my parents agreed to get me one. But now my main concern is that as per some news sites, ktm will update their bikes with new designs in 2017. The thing is that I don't want my bike to become oudated within 1 year of buying. Please suggest me whether I should get the duke or get some other bikes like apache 200
