  • Duke 200 Speedometer details?

I recently bought a 2nd hand duke 200 2012, I noticed that some info on the speedo is not showing, like "ready to race" at the beginning and "side stand down". It doesnt also show the ave km/l or anything in the midle of the speedo. Is there anything wrong with it or is it normal for this 2012 model?

Another problem is the general warning light turns on after a few minutes of riding. (not the check engine light, the one with triangle)

    thanks.

Looks like the console is a goner. Was it working absolutely fine before you bought it (while doing your inspection rounds).

What are the technical things that an owner must know?

What's up with maintenance and modifications?

      How's warranty coverage?

I didnt notice until I saw another duke lol. I thought it was normal for older models. no chance of repair? this is the only part of the speedo thats not working, other than that its all working. trip. odo. speed. rpm.

Its not showing "ready to race" "side stand down" "ave km/l" etc. I can even adjust shift RPM.

I also noticed that the general warning light turns on after a few minutes of riding. (the triangle one not the check engine), is this normal?

I had it checked with a shop and found nothing wrong. but still wondering why its not showing.
First time that i have come across such an issue.
The lower section of the console that displays various info and the warnings is not showing any info.

Has the previous owner done any electrical mods? I see some red switch kinda thingy near the console. What is that?
Ask him if he has played around with the ecu like a remap or something.
Now, either you or at the svc have the mechanic remove the headlight to access the console. Now inspect if the connector/wiring that goes in to the console has been tampered with or damaged. The connector that plugs in to the console has many wires (never counted it) , so do a visual inspection and if you find anything amiss try correcting it (like a cut wire/loose connection)

As for the warning triangle, It should go off if there are no warnings. Any warning such as 'low battery, high coolant temp , side stand down, low fuel level etc..' will keep that triangle on. It could probably be due to low fuel level in your case. Try filling up 4 litres of fuel and then observe if the warning is still on (since the console is not showing the text).. If it goes off, it's probably the harmless low fuel level warning. Another such warning could be a low battery warning, so get your battery also checked. If the battery has never been changed, then it could probably be the battery. These batteries usually last around 3 yrs under normal use.

So next, ask the svc mechanic to connect their diagnostic tool (the new diag tool is a bosch unit that gives out plenty of readings) and check for any error codes and if all parameters are ok. You can also compare it with another duke if possible.

Edit: just noticed the fuel level is full based on the pic.. is the warning triangle still on or comes on while you drive? It might be the low battery warning or maybe some other warning as i mentioned above. Get it checked by the diag tool too.
If possible swap another display and check.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding the warning light, it could be high coolant temperature because it turns off when I bring up the side stand but when the temp goes up to 8-9 bars it lights up. I thought 8-9 bars for a duke is normal?

Ill try switching batteries too. haven't checked it out yet.

Regarding the diagnostics ill try to have it checked by a mechanic.

            Thanks!

I usually keep track of the temp gauge by the number of unlit segments.
The coolant temp gauge has two sections, one long one and a short one on top.
Under normal use, the top section never comes on and on the bottom section the last one or two segments are not lit up (the fan usually kicks in at this stage).
Even in heavy traffic on a hot day, I haven't ever seen the temp gauge enter the top section.
The high coolant temp warning is usually triggered when the top section of the temp gauge gets lit up. This usually happens when one has been riding at the redline for a while or when the cooling system is not working properly (leaks, low coolant, bad thermostat, bad temp sensor/radiator/radiator cap/water pump)

Mine never reached the top section. Same with yours the last 2 bars usually dont light up. I guess ill monitor it and see when the warning light lights up. atleast I got some idea now. Thanks!

                UPDATE:
Ok. So I got back from a local shop that does a lot of KTM bikes. They said my speedo is normal for a 2012 duke. They said my Duke was one of the first generations that was made in austria not in india.

                  Hello,

I bought my KTM Duke 200 a few weeks ago. I noticed few scratches on the console meter glass. It's not much of a scratch but it's hurting me real bad thinking about it whole day.

Can the glass be replaceable or one has to buy the full console which is very expensive?

                  Please advise.

                  Thank you.

If you got it brand new, I think you could ask for a replacement if you can prove that the scratch was there when you bought it. If its 2nd hand you cant do anything. the whole console is a set. you could buy one of those scratch removers from hardware stores. it works great if its a minor scratch.

It is brand new but I don't think they will replace. It is a fairly long scratch but very thin. I think some jealous kids in our apartment did that. Do you know which scratch remover is best for glasses?

I tried "autogard scratch remover" and "turtle wax scratch remover". if youve used metal polish compound before its pretty similar. just put some of the scratch remover on the lens then wipe then wipe again with a clean cloth. ive used it on headlights and helmet lenses. Im sure it will work with the speedo too as long as its just a light scratch.

Thank sir! But it looks like they are not available in India? All links I get when searching are of outside India links. Would any scratch remover do for example this: https://www.flipkart.com/moto-max-sc...af21f0de783906

Or there the scratch remover for glasses specialized?

                          Thanks so much!

I havent tried that yet. So I cant say that it would work or not. but it doesnt need to be specialized for glass. the turtle wax scratch remover is for car paint but it worked fine for the lens. If you have no choice i suggest try it on a cheap plastic lens first before trying it on your duke.

I had a similar issue. Just go to SVC ask them to apply compound and seal it. If I remember it correctly it's called loctite and is bluish grey in colour. Should not be a concern imo

Got my D200 last month. Yesterday i saw the coolant level is right at the MIN mark. I have completed 700km. And the bike is 30 days old. I don't see any leak so is it normal ?
