  • KTM 200 Duke digital meter partially blank

I've been riding a 2013 KTM 200 Duke. The meter somewhat recently developed a fault and went completely blank. However, after a while (of attempts to fix that or maybe as a result of some other work), the center part of the meter works, so I can see the ride time, average, fuel economy, l/km, the low fuel indicator, service indicator etc. I can't see anything else around it: no speed, no rpm, no gears, no time, etc. The buttons seem to work (that's how I can switch between the average and fe and things like that).

Is this a problem anyone has faced before? Could it be a simple wiring problem? Can it be fixed? Can I fix it myself? Can you suggest someone in Mumbai or Pune who can help me out?

The service guys suggested replacing the meter (which could cost around Rs. 6,000) and so did a few local mechanics. The local guys even suggested getting a used meter for half the price. If I do replace it with a different meter, what happens to all the current km readings and other stats? Are they stored in the meter or elsewhere? Will a new meter start with 0? Can the data be copied over from the old meter to the new one?

You can use Philips extremvision H4 bulb, it's direct plug and play.

      What does disc overhaul mean?
Yes for chain sprocket replacement total price is 3000₹ yeah I think they increased the paid service recently yeah it also depends on VAT locally.

Is the Philips extremvsision whitish hue ?
Any other plug and play alternatives ?

Hi Guys, I am back with another irritating issue that has popped up recently in my bike. There is a rattling noise coming from the bike, like some small nut or something vibrating at most rpm ranges. It disappears exactly at 5000 rpm or when i pull the clutch in. Its coming from somewhere around the tank but i have not been able to locate the source. It feels like beneath the tank, from the engine head and is a bit left side oriented.

Also, my gearshifts are real bad even after servicing - 1000 km ago. Chain is lubed and at times the chain slips, Odo is 13700 Kms.

        Regards,
        Vishal

Though the iteration is common, one reason is that the fuel filler cap key hole flap vibrates at a certain RPM which is exactly as what you've mentioned. Secondly, the lower cowl (the one that is beneath the engine, plastic) when loose do produce vibrations which sound like a buzzing bee, these are commonly experienced and have a solution. What I would suggest is take a double sided tape stick on the underneath of the fuel tank keyhole cap, firmly and ride around with varying RPMs, if the sound stops then, we have a solution, if it doesn't then we can route it down to other. Do try this and keep us posted.

What do you mean by chain slipping?

When you replace a new console, all your old data is cannot be re-done. When you get a new console, it starts with zero, your previous championships, achievements, records all go with the old speedo console (pun intended )

Yes, the console, they do cost a quite a pocketful if we replace it for a new one. Your best would be to scour a junk yard or if you're under warranty you can definitely get it replaced without any issues.

          Cheers!

One probability might be weak battery or a battery that is the process of getting weak or a loose negative terminal. Certain bikes in the 2013-2014 had negative terminal snapping and loose terminal that led to bike stalling and what not. Check the above.

Can anyone kindly tell me what is the measurement of the handle bar clamp. I want to try out pro-taper handle bar and it fits in 28.5mm clamp only so.

I bought the fork and swingarm sliders. But, while installing i noticed that the swingarm sliders are not fixed i.e the black plastic part is able to spin unlike the front fork sliders which are fixed in one position. I made sure they are tight but they are still spinning. Is it supposed to be this way? I have checked installation videos on youtube but, i couldn't find anything to clear my confusion. Kindly reply.

Yes, In traffic it does get hot (and yeh the coolant might boil inside too) and that is normal (As long as your coolant is not spilling out and the fan comes on). The fan will kick in and keep the temperatures under control.
If the coolant is spilling out, then you need to make sure that the radiator cap, hoses and the expansion tank cap are all fixed correctly and that it's not over filled (you can remove some from the plastic reservoir and maintain the level between min-max)
Apart from that, the Ktm's run hot and that is normal, you will feel the heat on your legs (more so if you ride in shorts). Don't expect it to behave like a Unicorn or a splendor, it just wont!

Bike slipped in the mud here in chennai rains 2 days ago and gear lever is broken.
What's the gear lever price and how long will it take to replace it can I replace it in home or from any local mechanic (will buy the part from KTM spares).

I don't have any confidence in mrf tyres in grip neither in dry or wet conditions.
This is my experience past an year (18,000KM) regarding the rubber.

No, they are supposed to be firm and solid, they aren't supposed to be spinning in their axes. Check if they are provided with the right bolt, too big a bolt can cause it not to sit flush with the element we're trying to screw it into. Check the bolt size, if there are any discrepancies, get them replaced.

Coolant boil can certainly happen at the wrong riding conditions, bumper to bumper traffic being one. Coolant boiling should be given heed to. Given the right circumstances, coolant shouldn't "boil" was your engine fan running during that time? Your fan is there for reason to prevent coolant boil. Keep a tab on coolant level.

Gear lever should cost in and around 250 bucks to be precise!

Get the Michelins PSR. Affordable, comparatively extended lifetime and offers adequate grip.

Hi guys, i have 2016 KTM duke 200 bought in august.
I have faced Engine oil leakage from engine head and around rubber caps. Problem was solved after gasket change in warranty.
There was engine oil leak(very negligible) from engine oil cap also, after SVC guy changed to new engine oil cap, but problem was still not solved. From past week or so, it has stopped, may be it was over fill of engine oil during first service.

This week i'm facing one more problem, when ever i go over bump or bad roads(potholes), there is sound like plastic part being touched somewhere near rear part of the bike. I could not identify from where it is coming from. If you guys come across these please share what it is and what is the solution for this.

                              TIA

P.S Those problems are not deal-breaker for this bike. :P

Perhaps people wanted quality and Bajaj increased the price of the spares. Though I understand there were price increases for the RC series. Well, do we have a choice? Last I head it was around 250 ballpark. Well, when you get them replaced, keep us posted of the price on the gear lever wrapper, would benefit us all here.

It should be your rear fender hitting the rear mudguard, provided you have your mudguard on. There were instances where the rear mudguard would be hit by the rear fender tip, where the red reflector is, when riding two up and going through a speed breaker. Check if that's the case. Also check your rear shock rear mud guard holder (that U shaped metal rod that holds the plastic mudguard) is secured firmly and not loose.

                                Cheers!
