Minor Niggles on NS 200 BS4
"Dear Admins, posted this earlier on the wrong page. Please delete if repeated."
Hello Fellow 'NS'ians,
Hope you all have and had a good day!!!
Current ODO: 5500km, 5 months
My brother bought an NS200 BS4 version last March and he completed his routine 4500 km and 3rd service. I couldn't ride the bike since i was away in Kochi for job and
bike was at Kollam. Recently i took my 10 year old Suzuki Access and exchanged it with NS200 from my brother as he is soon leaving.
God!!!,i was glad riding all the way from Kollam on NS and it felt good as i was always riding scooters most of my life and did not went above 45 kph.
Everything felt great
, the acceleration , suspension, the brakes , the lights, the seats, the analog meter..everything is good and beyond, but a someone said, man is
never satisfied and i found my own complaints for the bike. Maybe it will be the over expectation or it can be faulty service. But i need help as i do not want a new
vehicle to be in ruins due to my negligence.
Problem 1- Clunky gears & Leaks
I guess this is common in Bajaj bikes. The gear feels unusually clunky for a new bike(maybe a more viscous oil would solve it). Sometimes it feels hard, sometimes
it feels smooth. Mixed feelings . The oil indicator shows correctly i guess, on center stand, bike turned off for more than an hour.
Attaching the oil level indicator, coolant level and oil filter cap FYI. Is the coolant on the higher side and is there leakage from oil filter?
Problem 2- Suspension
I am close to 60 Kg, and the suspension is set to level 2 soft. But it still feels hard and i can feel the road usually. Harder than my company owned 2006 model pulsar.
(It feels a dream to ride on that, just the suspension of course).
Problem 3- Higher Rear Brake lever level
The brake lever is higher than the peg when the foot is on rest. I don't know whether it is a riding technique to use 70/30 brakes.
But i does feel higher and pains to keep it on the foot rest.
Problem 4-Rear Brake sound
I was surprised to know from my brother that the service center(Sarathy Bajaj) had changed the rear section, (alloys, tired, discs, etc) twice free of
cost to rectify a rubbing sound from the rear end as they where unable to diagnose the issue, it was below 1000 km back then. The bike gets started in the morning,
the brake is not even applied, it gets the occasional rubbing sound and small vibration and once the brake is applied, it goes away.
Now after the rectification there was no issue. But recently i noticed a small sound when brake is applied, nothing major. But it still feels imperfect.
Problem 5- Missing
This is the most important issue faced, and i preferred to write it down at last as it would be in the memory for a good time for the readers.
The bike stalls in 5th and 6th gears below 4k rpm. Usually i do ride in city and 5th and 6th gears are a dream. But once out on highway cruising and overtaking,
the bike stalls for like a second and picks up again. Speed ranges from 50-70 kph. It also stalls occasionally during the first run of the day
.Don't really know the culprit here, the ASC guy told my brother that 2017 models
have this issue and even the Dominars are having the missing issues(Doubt that though). Another guy told me that the carburetor or the spark plug may be the problem.
One of my Xbhp friend was of immense help, but dint want to trouble him too much.
Addon: Wanted to install LED indicators like the ones in RS200, is it a direct fit? any issues from this?
I want to take the bike to Popular Bajaj Kochi, near Palarivattom for checking the issue. If there is any reference that the Kochi
guys can give for a good mechanic in any of the ASC, it will be of very much help, cannot trust the random ASC guys too much.
Thanks!!!!

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
What's the usual Chain-Sprocket Kit's life in this bike? I have covered 15K+ km and today gave my bike for servicing, and mechanic suggested to change the sprockets as they have worn out, and have crossed their usual life. I was skeptical, but then said ok to replace them.
I recently did a long trip ( 1000km+ in 4 days ) and didn't find any issue while accelerating the bike. Also, the sprockets and chain don't look worn out as such, and i have kept them lubricated timely. Can't share the pic now as i dropped it for servicing just now.
Shall i cancel the kit replacement? ( have only a couple of hours to cancel the replacement )

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
If you are really worried about the tyre and ready to spend some money.... Try and visit a tyre shop and tell that you want to exchange the tyres to MICHELIN PILOT STREET or MRFs.Originally posted by kirandev View PostHey thanks for the reply, not sure if 2017 version also have MRF tyres.. But pretty sure mine has eurogrip installed.
It's little sad that I didn't do enough research on tyres before purchase.. Also disappointed in Bajaj making decision to install low grip tyres on a sports bike, keeping in mind, Indian roads in general.
If I could pay 1.1lac for a bike, I could definitely pay 3-5k extra for good stock tyres.
You could get some reimbursement for the EUROGRIPS that you hand over to them...
MICHELINS have better reviews than MRFs with around 500 to 1K more than MRFs and last easily around 20 to 25K. I have told the Manager to install MRFs only, they are decent but not so great above 130 speeds...

Hello Fellow 'NS'ians,
Current ODO: 5500km, 5 months
Problem 1- Clunky gears & Leaks
The oil and coolant level should always be between Min and Max
The leakage from oil filter seems serious, report immediately to svc
Problem 2- Suspension
yes the suspension is stiffer
Problem 3- Higher Rear Brake lever level
No idea
Problem 4-Rear Brake sound
Most of the 2017 models have this problem.... When I give the bike for a washing the sound goes away... but it pops up again...
Also I noticed it during turing towards right side and braking simultaneously....
some times it becomes so intense that it even irritates the people who are standing by road side too
Problem 5- Missing
Noticed it before 1500 K.M very frequently between 5 to 7 K RPMs
little reduced but comes now and then
Thanks!!!!

Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences
Hi guys..
I'm planning to buy a new bike...
And my requirements are
Good looking, power, performance, decent mileage (35 to 40Kmpl), pillion comfort..
In my view NS looks good, has enough power and mileage also it will give 35 to 40kmpl but my concern is pillion comfort...
So can you please tell me how the pillion comfort is? And is there any other major issues on NS.. I have 2 weeks of time to finalize a bike. So please suggest and help me out...
Thanks in advance....

Personally the seats are well cushioned IMHO, a short ride as a pillion or maybe say about 150-200kms non stop journey is OK, but after that my butt started to ask for break when I sat as a pillion on my own bike... Plus there enough leg space one needs other than that at high speeds the grip handle is also good :-) rest if u need any extra padding do look for after market accessories bro

Problem 1- Clunky gears & Leaks
get leakage rectified. its an easy job. but if ignored, you may end up riding bike below minimum oil level and inviting lot more engine issues.
is there leakage from oil filter? Looks so
Problem 2- Suspension
get habituated. suspension are hard for good control.
standing over footpegs while riding on uneven surface would help
Problem 3- Higher Rear Brake lever level
It is adjustable. dont know why Bajaj has kept it at so uneasy position.
Problem 4-Rear Brake sound
I ride 2014 model. I face this problem only when pads are worn out.
Problem 5- Missing
I feel this problem sometimes when riding continuously more than 3 hours. No one is able to solve this problem yet. so the solution I chose is, whenever face this issue, press the clutch , raise RPM and match it to speed.
request you to share the solution if you get any
Addon: Wanted to install LED indicators like the ones in RS200, is it a direct fit? any issues from this?
No Idea but it will save some energy as LED needs less watt
Thanks!!!!
Welcome

Pulsar 200NS touring accessories
I have recently done a trip to Kodaikanal from Bangalore. I went with stock vehicle with no extra accessories or modifications.
The bike has done 20k Kms in this condition and rear tyre is worn out completely. I faced many issues during the trip.
Due to heavy rain on the way I was losing the little trip I had with those worn out eurogrip tyres (which sucked even when new, I don't know why I haven't changed them yet).
Gear lever was sliding up and down without changing gears internally.
Mileage was varying like day and night - with 9 litres of petrol I went on for 355km while on straight highway cruising at 90-110kmph (most of the distance was covered while it rained).
After that with 8.2 litres I went for 300 km including ghat section roads (which again is very good). Although while returning 9 litres got me only 200km (cruising at 120kmph - in broad daylight) forcing me to put in reserve and refuelling immediately.
I had got the vehicle serviced at a trusted local garage and the motorcycle engine is running as good as new after that, with New oil right before the trip.
My questions are
1) why does the mileage drop so steeply at very little extra speed?
2) can weather have any impact on mileage? Like day or night, dry or rainy etc..
3) what modifications and/or accessories are preferred for touring long distances?
4) I need to change tyres and am confused whether to get wider tyres or not, and whether to go for soft compound tyres for good grip or medium-hard compound for longevity.
