Your dad insists on the duke? wow man!! that's strange. There was a guy asking around in the duke thread, if he could somehow lessen the gap between the frame and the rear wheel as his Dad found the bike to be outlandishly sportish and hence apparently more dangerous
My suggestion : if your dad insists on the duke, go for it man. It's not worse than the NS for sure if not better. If something does go wrong, you have the excuse that he had insisted and not you .
Also you would find it easier asking for money to buy gears and powerparts by citing the higher power and torque figures and arguing that with more power comes more responsibility and responsibility means better(more expensive) gears

But keep in mind that the duke has been around for a while now and has been bought by enthusiastic people mostly. So not even a single tiny problem would go unreported. So you'll get more reports of 'issues'.
All the bikes when launched are 'issue free' IMO. The CBR and the duke for example. Both were eagerly anticipated and people went for them. Issues did crop up for both of them later as experiences started pouring in.
The NS has only been ridden by a handful of people here and that too for not so long. Surely in 1 or 2 months' time issues would be reported here too.

PS : On my way to office today Saw a black NS on display at Sai Service just before Airoli Bridge. Took a small break to check out the bike. It was the first time I saw it in flesh. The bike does appear big. The tank and the shrouds make it look very aggressive. THe seats are definitely softer and comfier than the duke.Pillion would be happier but only just as compared to the duke because I think the rider's seat is longer than on the duke. The fit and finish is good too but looked a notch below than what we get on the duke though. The headlamps were great.
I found the black colour a bit dull. May be becuase it was a rainy and gloomy morning and the orange duke was near it. Probably black is meant for that purpose. Being invisible and stealthy. BUt the NInja Black better meets these qualities. Yellow was not on display so can't comment.
All in all the bike has great presence and would have so even more in the brighter colours.
OTR quoted was 95K. No test drives.
Well, MG has gone over 10 thousand kms with the P200NS without a single problem with the bike and there were other 4 or 5 testers with him, all of them with their respective P200NS. So I guess if it wasn't mentioned after 10 thousand kms clocked under pretty much any condition and climate you can find in India that's because there are no such issues with the bike.

          Cheers mate.

          Sorry for the late reply.

          Ex-Showroom Price: Rs75707
          Vat @12.5 % : Rs9463
          Road Tax and Registration: Rs6893
          Smart Card: Rs370
          Insurance Comprehensive: Rs1919
          Accessories: Rs788
          Misc. Charges [H.C & L.U] : Rs405

          Total: Rs95545
This was all that was printed on the Invoice.

Cashless : Rs300 [For claims, no money needed, it will be changed instantly such as parts or anything else]
HSRP [High Security Registration Plate] : Rs575
Affidavite : Rs350 [I didn't had all the documents needed]
          Stamp Duty : Rs599 [ 2 years extra Warranty]
          Final Total: Rs97369

But, it feels more when you compare to other showroom prices being offered in Delhi.

          Likes:
          1. The looks and its very comfortable round the corners.
          2. Seats are comfortable with good grip.

          Problems:
          1. When I start early in the morning, left it to remain idle, the engine stops running like say after 10-15 secs. Then again I start, it happens again.
Also, I have noticed is as soon as I try to put on some throttle in neutral, it stops again. but when I ride for some km or so, then these problems are not there.
Is there any problem with tuning ? But, if yes then why it doesn't happen after some ride distance.

          2. Gear: Its smooth and very effective. Only thing is when i try to move from 3rd gear to 2nd, it sometimes doesn't gets into it. I have to leave the clutch again and try again for the gear change, then it happens.

I'm through with 200 km, should I change my engine oil and get service at 600 km ?

Owners and seniors, please suggest me through my problems .

my dad will be paying 1.4lakhs and if there are some issues then i would rather kick myself than report those issues to my dad .. duke is a premium product and i never expected problems from it .. my dad has owned rx100 and rd350 in the past so he is also a bike enthusiast ...5 blokes here own ns here and most of them have completed their first service , , still no issues with the ns .. everybody who own duke have reported problems from the first day itself ...

It is still handful of people. MG is just 1 guy. His bike might have been niggle(if at all some 200NS's have some in future) free. It is not that every duke wallah has had a coolant leakage/fork seal breach/engine shutting down/blah blah issue. I personally haven't had any of these(well almost).
The few common problems have been listed by Mountain in the duke thread yes. I agree that the affected numbers could be statistically significant, but hey let the 200NS sell in statistically significant numbers too.
What I want to say is had the 200NS been launched in place of the duke, people would be having a full list of issues too am sure by now(the list may be smaller sure). Btw I hope Bajaj has tried to avoid the issues reported for the duke in the 200NS given the fact that both the bikes share a lot.

Along with MG, 5more guys have tested the bike. I aint saying that 200NS will be niggle free, but still now the owners are finding it hard to put to words about its niggle/niggles.
Ya, there is a possibility, of few niggles(common to duke) might come up, since they are sharing the same platform, but had there been any major production flaw, it would have been appeared to some one at-least by now.

Anyway, we the potential owners are keeping our fingers crossed.

@rohan200NS - At least wait till 200NS is launched in your city. Then take a decision after having a test ride.(I know it hardly will solve your confusion). But till then you can keep a close watch in this thread to check about the occurrence of any niggles.

                        • @speedshift : Given below is my post which was posted on getting my first service done last saturday.
Got my 1st Service done today and they charged me Rs. 468/-.

                          330/- - Oil Change - 20W50 - Bajaj DTSI Engine Oil
                          037/- - Motul Coolant
                          074/- - Oil Filter
                          017/- - Consumable Charge
                          010/- - 1st Servicing Charge.
                          468/-

I feel You have been overcharged. System of billing is not the same for all service centres and differs a lot. You need to understand your bill details from the service guys properly.

Also i would like to mention that the chain does not require maintainance like other chains(The dealer told me that when i was taking delivery of my bike). You just need to spray one solution and it works fine.

                          VAT on rest of all @ 12.5% = Rs.51

They were recommending Motul 7100 FS oil but later their engineer came and asked them to put DTSi oil.

                          Now the Mileage reoprt :
The ODO of the bike was 14 when I got the tank full, today it was 467 and again I got the tank full and it took 9.43 litres to full the tank.

                          Mileage = 467-14/9.43 = 48.03

My driving was mostly in the city. Never rode above 4k RPM except on 5 occasions that too only for a few hundred metres and not above 8k RPM.

P.S. : The bike was in main and NOT in reserve even after 453kms of riding.

@rahuldevnath : I paid Rs. 330/- inclusive of VAT for Bajaj DTSi 20W50 oil.

I would advice all 200NS owners to ask for each and every cost before the bill is made and ask the SVC guys not put any thing extra.

                          Out of these costs:
Engine Oil = Rs.650 (What's the exact price of Dtsi Oil / per litre)?
Oil Filter = Rs.74 (This is fine)
Engine Oil Additive = Rs.98 (Just a way of making money, not required)
Chain Wash = Rs. 75 (Generally Charged every time, but not required at least for first servicing)
Fuel injector Cleen = Rs.40 (Please do go back and ask them firmly about this, there are no injectors in 200)
labour = 50 (labour for what?)
VAT on oil @ 20% = Rs.130 (Seem, 1.4 Litre of Dtsi oil is 750 bucks! Quiet costly compared to even Motul 3100SS)

This from my experience of 9 years of different pulsar ownership.

@Rohan200ns : Rohan you were regular on this thread since the start of it. Everyone has already stated their experiences about heat issues. If you have skipped it i would advise you to go through the thread again.

For your engine thing i would suggest you to go to service centre and get Engine setting done. It's just a small setting and i guess it would be fixed in couple of minutes.

1st Free service is between 450-500kms. Some dealers would not accept your bike for free service once it clock 600 on ODO.

@Rohan : I guess you are getting impatient bro. At a certain point you need to make a decision and stand by it. Like i got the 1st P200NS i was gonna get the 1st DUKE. I was being offered INDIA's 1st DUKE but i made a decision and went in for P200NS. I am very happy with my decision. While booking the bike i had not seen the bike in real nor tested it anywhere. I had more knowledge about the bike than the dealer but than too i went in for the bike. You are getting reviews by a number of owners and everyone is answering your querries. Everyone is different from each other and the thing i prefer is not necessary that you prefer it too. So just relax and with a cool mind take a decision. We all are here to help you for your questions/querries but the FINAL Decision needs to be taken by you bro.
