Re: Servicing & Maintenance Cost @ 49 Paise Per km
Thanks, pskanp.Originally posted by pskanp View Post
That will be x divided by number of km, x being the cost of tyre and tube, which I don't know now!cost of tyres after, say after 15-20k kms, how much it could add to Rs 0.49

Thanks, please keep us updatedOriginally posted by gyan_recl350 View PostYou know what, all these days I was kind of blindly believing what ASC guys used to tell and hence always thought they are filling 2.75 (as they said and I never checked, hence they might be right or may be wrong also) but my service is due too after some 1000Kms so this I am going to pay close attention to it.
Also I heard from some users that "wurth" engine oil additive is doing wonders. 80 ml of it, last for 10K. So I am gonna give it a try.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Hey, the new exhaust looks good.Since you have got this from a showroom, is this silencer an official one from RE itself? Is this one a little shorter than the original one or is it of the same length? Also, how is the thump?Originally posted by amitlal169 View PostHere are some more pics as requested...

I am also inclined to get this one. I love the look of the stock silencer but it lacks the iconic thump..

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
The spanner symbol appeared 2 days back on my tb500 speedo. Went to the ASC today and they got rid of it. But they couldn't answer as to why it haf appeared. I just asked the service guy to take a ride on my tb500. Both of us went together. Asked him about the knocking sound which comes when you initially give the throttle. He checked thrice and concluded its of the piston

He told me it was normal and not to worry. But I am worried!
Which bike or car engine piston makes noise while riding/driving?

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
You can yourself delete the service reminder icon by pressing the 'select' and'set' buttons together, switch the ignition on, keep on pressing the buttons together for a few seconds and switch the ignition off. Now, if you switch on the ignition, there won't be any service reminder icon.Originally posted by simao View PostThe spanner symbol appeared 2 days back on my tb500 speedo.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Check my post, had similar issue. Got the engine replaced within 3000KM. And now after 9000KM looks like the noise is coming back. Sometimes i feel that the new UCE engines are not meant for us (Standard Riders). I just have 10 days to go for a ride to Nagaland, hoping not have any issues on my way.Originally posted by simao View PostThe spanner symbol appeared 2 days back on my tb500 speedo. Has Driven more than 200 km as of now, no problem faces till now.
Specs can be checked at Quality chennai website : www.qualitymetalindustries.com.
I Would try to put a Video.
it looks like original except for the end black cap replaced
but is this one launched by RE ? and any idea why cost is high compared to other silencers in the market ?

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
You absolutely right mate. I own a standard 350. Its engine is still smoother than 1100kms tb500. I had a thunderbird avl 2004. Which I sold to buy the tb500. Sometimes I regret having done that. You can push both of them to their limits without any worries. But here, forget the limit, the tb500 gives me second thought even while kick starting it.Originally posted by White Knight View PostCheck my post, had similar issue. Going for a short ride with my friend along with his cl500. Lets see what he has ro say about his bike.
RE has do something about this. Beware RE triumph and harley have come up with their respective bikes in this category. Got to tighten your boots.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Actually, you guys are right about the smoothness part of it. I got my TBTS-500 2 months ago and i have done 1500km on it. Recently, my friend got a CL350, and instantly, i could feel the difference, his bike started way quicker than mine and was a bit more smoother and felt a bit more refined.Originally posted by simao View PostYou absolutely right mate. But then when i got more info and asked around, it seems that the 500 UCE is actually a bit more different than the 350 and feels more rugged, but do not underestimate it. It will not fail you. One just has to get over the feeling and the sound of it. Actually, now after 1500KM i am beginning to actually enjoy it more.
Last weekend, we had gone for a trip (500KM round trip) and i got to know the real character of the 500 UCE. The torque and power its to offer is like no other RE. Yes they had to make sacrifices when it came to the thump, but the new engine is way more reliable than the STD or the AVL for that matter. There's a reason RE migrated to these. They will take on a lot more beating and need lesser maintenance.
I just need to replace the silencer. And then ill be all set

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
This is called Optimistic thinking. Lets see if you say the same thing after 30K KM. I dont think mine will last me more than 50K KM. Since its already showing signs of aging. And i have tried every thing to over come that. Changed the spark plugs to NGK, changed to K&N air filter, changed the clutch plates, Mobil1 Fully synthetic oil, always use premium petrol. Once in a blue moon also use Speed 97. i Treat it like a queen and yet not satisfied. I think going for a triumph or some other bike would make sens next time. The only reason i bought this was because my standard(1983) was just too old to keep up to the pace.Originally posted by TBTS-350 View PostActually, you guys are right about the smoothness part of it. For the ride i have put some button tires with almost the same profile, front Pirelli 100/90-19 and rear some imported brand called Vee Rubber 120/90-18 and the bike is feeling even more laggy! and if i tell you the amount of things i replaced under warranty u would laugh your lungs out.
So last option for me is go for my ride come back and sell it!

Am bit surprised. I thought that the new Classic 500 and Thunderbird 500 to be much more trouble free than their vintage cousins!!! Is it still not??"HASTA LA VICTORIA, SIEMPRE !" - Chesigpic
