Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Yes, the fuel gauge is no way reliable. I rode for 40kms and the display was showing 3 bars from reserve throughout the trip and when I reached home, turned off and did a fresh ignition cycle, two bars out of three just disappeared. Never plan your fueling according to what the digital gauge show you.Originally posted by Legend Racer View Post
BTW while returning i had to ride with 0 DTE in console. last it showed 35 km to go, but all of a sudden it went to 0. i was shocked, rode very sedately and reached bunk and filled up full.
now i take it till 7k, yeah man, its fun above 6k... by the time i reached back after 100 kms the chain is loose and thud sound is back in 1 st gear.
And regarding the chain, I had the same surprise when I reached home. The chain slack went worse and what screwed me was the overactive mechanics applied so much lube that it sprayed the hell all over the rear.
It took a lot of effort to clean things up. I adjusted the chain tension myself and its really easy to do even without a race stand. Also cleaned the front sprocket area which was completely messy with a heavy buildup of muck and old lube.
If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on.

so we need to keep an eye on kms completed, and be sure about the fuel in tank or else its gonna be bad on road... BTW post the pics of tools you use to remove the cover of front sprocket... and are you planning to use grease on chain? grease is always better than oil but needs cleaning more... what say? cost is also low.Originally posted by junaid12345678 View PostYes, the fuel gauge is no way reliable. Remove the four bolts. Use 8 size ring spanner to remove three bolts and remove the remaining one with the hex wrench provided in the tool kit. ( The ring spanner is not provided but never use open ended spanner as you will end up with stripped bolt.)Originally posted by Legend Racer View Postso we need to keep an eye on kms completed, and be sure about the fuel in tank or else its gonna be bad on road... Grease is no way suitable for o-ring chains as the lubricant needs to penetrate into the o-rings and should remain there till the next lubrication. O-ring chains should run slightly wet all the time but on the other hand grease makes the chain dry and also increase rolling resistance.

i wish to differ here. not an expert to claim as i have not yet documented the life of chain sets and lubricating methods done so far... But, i think there are basically 3 types, light oil, chain oil and the grease.Originally posted by junaid12345678 View PostRemove the four bolts. light oil is something that all use in day to day life, lubricates, can be cleaned off easily.
chain oil is that's used in ASS. attracts dust and makes rim and chain cover dirty and sometimes rider's dress too. tough to clean too.
Actually chain oil is a mixture of grease and some chemicals to make lubrication work faster for worker. spray and zoom off.
grease is something different. there are many varieties, with different grades and values for many kinds of uses from railways to simple fan bearings. the method is a bit different when it comes to greasing.
you gotta heat it a bit before applying. Think of grease like a sponge; it releases the lubricant while the chain is working and then re-suspends itself when at rest. But the down side is, it takes a lot of time to apply and clean. On the other hand it does not spray grim , thus keeping rim clean.
from my experience i have used grease on my Rx 100, long back. I could feel bike easily pulling than oil lubrication.
BTW this is my 1st bike without a chain cover. My P 150 and Rx 100 have full chain covers, never had any issues and chain sets lived above 50k kms. So dont know much about these cover less / o ring chain systems... learningLast edited by Legend Racer; 12-28-2013, 04:43 PM.I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

Grease is not recommended for o-ring chains. Even though you are correct about the lubricating properties but no matter how evenly or how good you apply grease it would never reach the o-ring as good as a spray.Originally posted by Legend Racer View Posti wish to differ here. not an expert to claim as i have not yet documented the life of chain sets and lubricating methods done so far... A spray on the other hand is not oil. It sprays like an oil but settles like a hard grease and during the time it takes to dry down it also reaches the o-ring. It dries into a sticky paste like substance but is not easy to remove. Infact I find it tougher to remove than grease. It stays on better and lasts longer.
Use good lubes like motul, rolon etc and spray it with care so as not to ruin your rims. Let the lube spray settle for a good 10 mins and then ride. Not even a single drop would come off the chain. Guarantee!
junaid12345678 what happened in your case might be because of cheap sprays used by the svc or incorrect way of application.

I completely agree. I personally use Motul and never had any problems whatsoever.Originally posted by DukeDey View PostGrease is not recommended for o-ring chains. The svcs use OKS chain spray and those idiots applies it to the whole chain several times to such an extend that the lube even begins to drip off. The excess lube is then thrown out of the chain even if ridden after a couple of hours.

The best part, last time I was there they did a comparo between the my motul and oks and based on some stupid theory of theirs, they reached a conclusion that oks is better. I did not try to make them understand because of the language barrier.
I did not get time to ride my bike, would go there next Saturday.

we will run out of words... junaid12345678 tried to get more details about the service in between 1st and 2nd as said by SM, i was laughing inside...at last the break down came for Rs 450, 200 for washing, 100 for chain service, 50 for consumables and 50 for check up... i was like

dont even think so. ASS guys are dumb masters. you know what, i have worked at 2 ASSes... its tough to be in that circle, its choking. i could not, and the pay scale is also low...
thats why many jobs are done by non passionate people just to get daily bread.
the most shocking thing is the SA there is a 18 year old coming straight from a 12 th grade. when asked he said, he is learning from there.I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.
