Superb pics!!! BTW avoid drinking Tea/coffee in plastic cups guys.. The hot tea/coffee melts the plastic and can cause cancer (Read in internet). Prefer paper cups or else its better to drink in glass cups than plastic

Good to know you are okay.

monetary loss would have been even higher had it been any other bike.
plus the time taken by workshops in mending bikes is enormously higher had it been a Kawasaki or Suzuki or Yamaha

        b. a longer crank may be required to start it sometimes,
        c. the fairer gender isn't too happy with the rear seat, and they make it apparent. Earlier, I didn't give a damn, but I'm 28 now.. so I guess I'll have to...
he way you'll ride bikes. For majority of the time, you will learn to hold restraint just to accommodate other road users... It matures you in a way.................
Sam, I sense urgency here, 28, forgiving the fairer gender just to get the fairer gender!
But OT aside, beautiful insights. Absolutely bang on as to how the bike is dealt in SVC that determines the way the bike handles for days to come. I mean, the quality of the work is what always bothers me at the SVC. They just don't use the right consistency to finish the job. Sigh!

But as long as the revs make one happy, petty issues are a dot in the RVM.

When I took the delivery in April 14. I recall Sridhar Head Mechanic from KTM Pondy mentioning about some 30 or 60 point checks in the PDI which he carried out in front of me... In that excitement I do not really recall number of checks he performed...as he was done all he said that bike was perfect & I was ready to RACE but offcourse below 7k revs😊

@B7ACKTHORN : I have to say, you are one lucky bugger to live in Ooty! The weather was just brilliant when we were there and the Duke ran lot smoother in Ooty than anywhere else, must be due to the cooler temp.

                    So it's you musketeers.
Now tell me did you love it or the Duke love it. Yes the Duke runs a lot more smoother and one is so glad to see the temp even below the check mark which gives an even wider grin under the helmet.

Krishna called me up but was stuck up in Coimbatore, couldn't catch up with you guys. As long as you guys had fun, happy for you guys. There's always a next time....

Got the bike from the service center (autoservice, bangalore).
to fix the front fork oil leak (3rd occurrence), the seal and the rubber boot was replaced. was advised the keep the USD fork clean and free from fine sand. Wonder how to do that in monsoons, where a 2 kms ride on wet roads and bike is covered in dirt.

Also the engine head gasket was replaced as the joint was heavily sweating the engine oil. Front left indicator is conked-off cos of moisture entering, and they could not manage to get a spare for an entire week, for which bike was lying at their place. sad! Still running with one indicator not working.

After receiving the bike, the front disk rotor is getting unusually hot, could be mishandling while removing the wheel for fork related work. at the time of delivery i noticed a loose bolt which connects the fork to the bike (could rotate it with my fingers). So much for their workmanship. i had also asked for a mini service which includes a wash, clutch cable / chain adjustments, etc but highly dis-satisfied. So looks like autoservice only gives good attention to the super bikes, and step brotherly treatment to sub 3 lakh bikes.

                      Just sharing my experience.

My bike went in for the 11k service last week. The bike is not at all smooth now. They filled motul 7100. Now the gear shift slips all the time to false neutral. Also the shifts are jerkier and rough. The bike is not smooth overall. Also the headlamp is not working. What could that be? At first two days back, the lamp started after two three seconds. But now its not working at all. Both High and low beams. The park and instrument cluster and switch lights are Working. Anybody had same problem?. Any ideas guys?

What is the chain condition like ? Also life of the sprockets also, then coming to the headlights it could be mis-contact at the switch panels, ask them to remove it and clean it.

Highly unlikely for the headlights to blow this soon.

@backlash4u which ASS? kollam? I had told you to call me and we shall both go for 11k service... what about the mirror piece i asked you?

                                My 11k service report.

After 2 days of calls I managed to get in a slot, as the trivandrum ass is busy because it covers a large region. Reached and found too many dukes waiting for spares and service. Saw a TP 390 in full scrap, total loss. Heard that the rider is dead. The collision was a T bone to a maruti 800 car. Witness said that car spun for 3 rounds due to the bike's impact. Hardly 50 kms on odo...

After giving my bike a good wash I brought it to service bay. I monitored washing as I didnt want them to give paint swirl marks and huge diesel rubbing. I complained following things.

                                1. Water in MID
                                2. Engine sound change ( just said that and I didnt ask specifically to check head)
                                3. Loss of power at 5k, the mad rush is now at 8k.
                                4. Steering wobble.
                                5. Accelerator grip not smooth and has step feeling.
                                6. High coolant temperature error.

The responses in "" and work done...

General service was carried out and spark plug was replaced, old 1 took with me as it was fine.beach sand colour... OBD scanned, no errors.

                                6. Coolant was drained out to check amount left. Required amount was there. "Company says to replace coolant at 20k kms", but I changed it now, just for peace of mind. Anyway it showed high coolant temperature couple of times.

                                5. He opened the throttle area, ie, the engine kill switch cover, cleaned and adjusted. And the throttle was smooth as new.

                                4. I was skeptical about the conset. The pulsar's never lasted beyond 15-20k kms. He said few have changed at 8k kms. "The price is Rs 500". I asked him to tight but not the fork. If the fork needs to be tightened the conset has to be loosened and it may loose its setting. after a TR i found the wobble had reduced a lot."change front tyre and new conset ,steering would become as new again."

2.3. "The engine has bed in. Hence the reduction in rush..." Im used to full clutch and used to keep clutch lever as company said, 2-3mm play. Now this fella, says, if you keep clutch like this bike wont move as the clutch plates would be pressed together and under stress." He made a play of 5-8mm in clutch lever. I didnt understand fully what he meant... After 100 kms of ride the gear shifts were giving loud thud sound and the gear distance was also not comfortable. Hence i readjusted the cable to 2-3mm and the shifts were not giving anymore thud sounds, and I didnt find bike to be not moving as he claimed.

I asked to inspect shims and head too, for such loss of power but he asked if I could give them the bike for 2-3 days to fully inspect. i thought better to live with it...
                                @B7ACKTHORN
                                1. I had reported multiple times of water in MID, but he wins talks by using science... I said water and he says if it was water then whole console would have been flooded. Now it is the state of matter of water thats causing confusion. To make him understand that it is abnormal and none of the cars or bikes have this as common, the fog/mist needs to come to liquid state, which does not happen at all.

I think all can understand this aint normal. The MID is useless with all this inside. Nothing can be made out even after looking with eyes open, forget about while riding. What can I do? He assured if, it makes the console kaput he would replace under warranty. These pics were taken once the mist/fog cleared to the best.

Mean while, I saw a ninja 650 being brought on a LCV... Customer said the battery is dead and bike turned off while riding. I wondered WTF? He was touring a long distance with all luggage and this is what happened. After the battery was placed for charging customer went out as it would take 2-3 hours.

I enquired how this is possible and technician said, fuel pump needs battery always and I was like WTF? Such a costly bike and bike would go dead if battery drains out. To make me sad he said, even your duke is like this...

Keep in mind, IF YOU FIND BIKE TO HAVE LOST BATTERY POWER ie, HORN SOUND GOING LOW OR LIGHTS GETTING DIM, REACH ASS AT THE EARLIEST OR YOU WILL be STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE.
how many bikes above 1 lakh is like this? Thank God cars are better in this case. Only for starting battery is required...
I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.
