  • Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences

Hey guys, I've read around a lot now, but I'm still confused over headlamp replacement.

Some people say the Osram/Philips are good.
Others suggest going for Bosch Halogens...

Which is the best approach overall?
I don't mind the price factor as much, but I want better lighting.

Also, a friend suggested getting auxiliary lamps instead of replacing the stock bulb. Is that effective?

    Looking for any inputs.

Also, my bike is past the warranty period, so not worried about voiding it.

Philips Xtreme Vision is an excellent candidate, good beam throw, and the light being white, reduces eye sore during night commutes

      Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Don't use high team in fog Satish, it can impede your vision even worse, though the itch is there to switch to high beam, as you would have known, low beam was better than high-beam. Those yellow fog lights do penetrate good in fog though.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply! So do I get these directly from a shop or online? Is this: Philips 12342XVPB1 H4 12V 60/55W X-treme Vision Plus Car Headlight Bulb: Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike the right one? Also, is this a direct fit? Or do I need any modifications to the electrical system?

Also, how's the life on these things? I read around some reviews and some guys mention these bulbs having lasted for only 12-15 months at times...

I'm almost final on these, just wanted to confirm this one fact.

Also, is any electrical modification required? Is it the same power as the stock bulb?

There aren't any modifications required, the bulb is a standard fitment to the Duke Series, remove the old one, install this one simple as that. Usage depends on the product, mind you there are lots of counterfeit bulbs, get it from a reputed dealer.

Bulb was working fine when i sold the bike. That was almost 12-13months since i installed the bulb.

Been using the same bulb in m Figo, one of them went kaput at around 13th month and the other one 2-3months later. Now using normal bulbs since i won't be hitting the highway anytime soon. I installed a pair of Night breaker (not sure which variant it was) and i removed them within a month. Compared to Philips, NB had a very good low beam both spread and intensity, but high beam though the throw was good intensity wasn't that great to be used in the highway. I ended-up using low beam 90% of the time in highway.
